Parker Dam State Park sits on 968 acres of land in Penfield Pennsylvania. It lives alongside Moshannon State Forest which holds 50,000 acres of wilderness that backpackers can use for hiking and wilderness camping.
There are 109 camping spots to choose from. There are tent sites and RV sites as well as electric hookups. The campsites are pet-friendly and there are shower facilities and bathrooms on site.

Find Adventure On The Appalachian Trail
The Appalachian trail swings through about 230 miles of the Keystone State and intrepid hikers could conceivably hike all the way to Georgia or Maine from any point along the Pennsylvania section of the trail. Even if your plans aren’t quite that ambitious, you could easily spend a week or two following the path through the ridges and valleys of eastern Pennsylvania’s Appalachian Mountains. Backcountry campsites are available along the way in many areas with lean-to trail shelters spaced about every 10 miles. Most shelters have a nearby water source, along with vault toilets and ample room to pitch a tent. Secluded forests and panoramic mountaintop vistas are the norm on the Appalachian Trail, but there are dozens of towns within a mile of the trail where you can stop to gather supplies. Detailed trail maps and guides are available through the Appalachian Trail Conservancy.

Allegheny National Forest spans a vast 513,175 acres in northwest Pennsylvania. The pristine mountain forests include dozens of campgrounds and two-thirds of the Allegheny Reservoir, which straddles the New York border and provides some of the best walleye fishing in either state. Shawnee State Park is a gorgeous 3,983-acre Pennsylvania state park in Bedford County, anchored around the stunning 451-acre Shawnee Lake warm-water reservoir. The park, which is located just outside of the city of Bedford, is named in honor of the region’s indigenous Shawnee people, who once inhabited the Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Kentucky areas prior to the arrival of European colonists.
