Brushkana Campground Denali National Park
Brushkana Creek Campground is located adjacent to Brushkana Creek at Milepost 104 on the Denali Highway. The country is very scenic with the Alaska Range to the north. Vegetation is tundra and wildlife you may encounter is eagle, moose, caribou, waterfowl, porcupine and more. This is a favorite location for bird viewing. Grayling are fished for in the creek. Free Camping Spots In Alaska
When we first arrived in Alaska some 40 years ago there were so many places that didn’t charge for camping we could never have named them all. It was in the later part of the 1980’s when the state dropped into a oil bust recession that things really started to change all throughout the state. Where there was once all of this free camping and open land we began seeing signs requiring a state issued pass to park, play or camp in these same places we had been coming to for years.
Today all of these places are gone. Deep Creek, Ninilchik and even the Homer Spit all charge a fee for camping, boat launching and even to park when going for a walk too. Some of those fees are the most expensive we encounter in our travels in any state or country. Sadly there are no discounts for veterans nor for families with disabled children either.

Cascade Bay, at the Northwest end of Eaglek Bay, holds the treasure of the largest waterfall in Prince William Sound. There is no lack of freshwater in the Bay, with another reasonable water source coming in just to the East of the Falls. Be prepared for the noise of the falls, and tons of jellyfish!
Eklutna Lake Campground Best Campground For Nature Watching

There are lakes all over the world, but few of them can compete with Eklutna Lake in terms of natural beauty. This massive, 7-mile lake has plenty of room for boaters, fishers, and swimmers alike. The water is crystal clear, and you can see the bottom of the lake as clearly as the reflection of the snow-capped mountains that tower above it.
The campground is situated inside Chugach State Park, which, at 495,000 acres, is one of the four largest state parks in the U.S. That means theres no shortage of things to do and see, and you have a variety of ways to experience the park. Horses, ATVs, and even dog sleds are often used to traverse the sprawling terrain.
Youll find everything from glaciers and icefields to miles of coastal shoreline here. That means that, if you love wildlife, there are plenty of animals to view through your binoculars or the lens of your camera. Youll find moose in the valleys, bears in the forests, and you may even spot the occasional wolf pack roaming around .
The campground itself offers 50 different sites to choose from, with 15 overflow sites available for tent camping. Each site is level and paved, with room for even the largest RVs, and they all come with picnic tables and fire pits.

As you probably guessed from the name, Alaskan Angler RV Resort and Cabins caters heavily to fishing enthusiasts. This Good Sam-endorsed campground is within walking distance of several rivers and beaches, so all you have to do is grab your gear and go. They also offer several exclusive charter trips, if youd rather go on an excursion thats been planned by experts.
You dont even have to bring your own gear, in fact. They rent just about anything you could possibly need, including clamming equipment and rain gear.
Situated on 8 acres in Ninilchik, a small Native village about 100 miles southwest of Anchorage, the area is renowned for both its salmon and halibut fishing. The area is popular for other reasons too, of course, including an annual music festival and their Clam Scramble, which is a river-to-river obstacle run.
The commitment to making your fishing trip as fulfilling as possible doesnt stop when you leave for the water, either. Theyll clean and pack anything you catch, and will even ship it home for you . If you cant wait that long, though, there are fish and clam cleaning tables and smokers on site.
If you decide to give their showers a try, though, you should bring something to keep you occupied . They only have a few units, and the line to get in is usually pretty long. Expect to spend a good amount of time just waiting to get cleaned up.

Youll be hard-pressed to find abetter campground to view the northernlights than Chena Lake Recreation Area.
Just south of Fairbanks, the twocampgrounds on Chena Lake offer a good blend between outdoor adventure and cityexploration. Youll likely see wildlife wandering through the campground butyoure still only a short drive away from town. The Lake Park Campground has 45campsites while the River Park has 35 campsites. In the peak summer months, thelake is popular for swimming, fishing, and boating.

Portage Valley Cabins & Rv Park
Red Shirt Cabin 3 celebrates the ancient spirit of Red Shirt Lake as a gathering place. The lake once featured large salmon runs and summer camps for Denaina Native groups, and still hosts private cabins on its southern half. The cabin may be perfect for large parties in quest of lake action, a platform for those who want strenuous days of paddling, fishing, swimming, and motoring followed by rousing evening campfires.

Finger Lake State Recreation Site

Nestled between the cities of Palmer and Wasilla, the Finger Lake State Recreation Site has become a popular retreat for both families and solo campers. There are 24 regular and 2 group-use campsites. Amenities include picnic areas, toilets, water, and a boat launch.
FingerLake is an excellent spot for fishing, boating, paddleboards, and jet skis. You can canoe from the lake straight to Wasilla. There is also a beach with water access for you and the kids to dip in.
Note that the sites can be booked by reservation. However, some of them are still available on a first-come, first-served basis. Pets are allowed too.

Montana Creek State Recreation Site
Roughly two hours north ofAnchorage and just a little more than a half hour south of Denali NationalPark, the campground at the Montana Creek State Recreation Site is a haven foranglers.
With 36 total campsites, this campground is relatively small but it packs a big punch. Each site is spacious and relatively private. Most are tucked away under trees. Many offer excellent views of Montana Creek and the mountains beyond. Although the camping itself is fantastic, the biggest draw of this Alaska campground is the world-class fishing, including grayling, rainbow trout, and salmon.

Free Rv Camping In Alaska
Public Land offers many free RV dispersed camping opportunities. You can get free RV camping location tips from the USFS Ranger Districts. The following are just a few examples of free RV camping locations available throughout Alaska.
Two free campgrounds operated by the US Fish and Wildlife Service are available for RV camping along the Alaska Highway near the Canadian border. The Tetlin National Wildlife Refuge offers Deadman Lake and Lakeview Campgrounds. Located at mileposts 1249.3, and 1256.7 of the Alaska Highway, these campgrounds make for a great stopping point along the Alaska Highway.
Free RV camping is available northwest of Paxson at BLMs Tangle Lakes Campground located on the Denali Highway. The campground is located at milepost 21.5 of the Denali Highway and has pit toilets, boat launch, and water. There are 25 campsites.
30 free campsites are available at BLMs Galbraith Lake Recreation Site located on the Dalton Highway. The campground is located at milepost 275.

Its a bit of a hassle to do it but its so worth it. You can hike the Denver Glacier trail through old growth forest and past a waterfall to gorgeous Denver Glacier while youre there or just hang out and watch the trains and scenery. Complete solitude when the train is gone! Even though its not exactly a campground it still needs to be on this list because its amazing.

Stoney Creek Rv Park Most Spacious Rv Park
There arent many RV campgrounds in Alaska that can offer the kind of room to stretch your legs that this place has on tap
Located just outside the bustling metropolis of Seward , Stoney Creek RV Park is one of the largest campgrounds on this list. It sits on 15 acres, and all that room allows them to be generous with their spacing. The majority of their sites are 30 feet wide by 50 feet long, making it easy to get in and out and enabling you to park a second vehicle inside if you like.
They have 81 sites in all, of which 68 have sewer access. Every single space offers breathtaking visuals, as the campground is surrounded by majestic mountains, with the titular Stoney Creek flowing around the park. They offer both pull-through and back-in sites, but again, theres so much room that getting into your slot isnt an issue.
That spaciousness can also work against you at times. You can have so much room that you feel that you have the place to yourself but noise carries, and we occasionally felt like we were privy to conversations and gatherings that wed never received an invitation to. It wasnt enough to interrupt sleep or anything that severe, but it could be a mild annoyance, especially if you were coming to Alaska to get away from people in the first place.
