The road in is Gravel. Valley of Fire BLM Land West is open any. There are 1-5 campsites at this location and the maximum RV length is unlimited. You may stay no posting at Valley of Fire BLM Land West. There were a few other campers here when we visited but its so large it was easy to find a private, level spot to ourselves. So quiet, great views across the plains of the sunrise and sunset, and best of all only an hour to Las Vegas in the morning! Easy to spot with all the other RVs guiding your way.

We took to the road this weekend and visited Valley of Fire, a Nevada state park that is a short drive from Las Vegas. If you need a bre ather from the casino glitz and glimmer, this is the place to get back in touch with nature.
We spent the day wandering around the many rock formations. There is a lot of room to roam these wide open spaces. We especially enjoyed walking the stairs up to view the 4,000 or so year old petroglyphs. We were lucky in that the desert was so alive after all the rain. We found a pond near the petroglyphs. The desert plants are greening up and getting ready to bloom We will be back to see the flowers that will sprinkle the desert with color.
Sheep! We saw several groups. The little ones are beyond cute, and incredibly agile. I watched one leap from one crevice to another that would inspire the most advanced rock climber. While we saw a lizard and other small animal tracks, we only saw a few rabbits and a smattering of chatty birds. The fabled tortoises were not to be seen. One of these days we will get to see one in the wild. for now, we will have to content ourselves with the resident tortoise that we saw at Red Rock Canyon.

You may spot wildlife such as roadrunner, lizards, snakes, coyote, kit fox, spotted skunk, black tailed jackrabbit and antelope ground squirrel, particularly once the sun goes down. The Valley of Fire State Park has a dry and warm climate typical of the Mojave Desert in which it lies. In summer, visitors can expect temperatures as high as 106°F, while winter can fall to a night-time low of just 38°F.

Free Camping At Valley Of Fire
The Valley of Fire camping fees are quite reasonable and staying overnight in the park is cheaper than staying at a nearby hotel.
However, if youre looking for free camping near the Valley of Fire, you have some options. You could camp in Valley of Fires BLM territory at the parks overflow site, about six miles from the western entrance. Intended for use when the other campgrounds are full, this area is managed by the Bureau of Land Management. While it can get windy, the ground is flat and can accommodate all types of RVs.
Another option is Valley of Fire backcountry camping, although youll be further from the park and its campground amenities. For example, you can find dispersed camping near Valley of Fire around the Lake Mead National Recreation Area.

Follow pierce ferry road north of meadview, az. Go to the south cove boat drop off. Right before the lake, turn left on to a dirt road. Drive 5 minutes and camp on the shore where there are fire rings.
Beautiful place to stay lake and mountain views, rock formations overlooking the lake shore, gorgeous sunsets and sunrises. Not really very level but manageable. Stayed here in a 26 class A and a tent, January 2nd and 3rd 2020. Close enough to Grand Canyon West for a daytrip

The main difference between the two is that Atlatl Rock Campground has flush toilets and showers, while Arch Rock Campground has vault toilets and no showers.

Because of the areas warm summer temperatures and its rock and desert topography, most of the animals that live in and around Valley of Fire are nocturnal. Snakes, lizards, coyotes, bobcats, badgers, fox, jackrabbits, skunks, and antelope ground squirrels all reside in Valley of Fire State Park. Its rare to see a desert tortoise, as they burrow underground for protection from the sun and cold. If youre lucky, youll see Nevadas state animal, the Desert Bighorn Sheep!
History Of Valley Of Fire State Park Established In 1935
Valley of Fire consists of bright red Aztec sandstone outcrops nestled in gray and tan limestone mountains. The sandstone is from the Jurassic period and is the remnant of the sand left behind by the wind after inland seas subsided and the land rose. Early man moved into southern Nevada as far back as 11,000 years ago. The most obvious evidence of occupation is the petroglyphs carved into the rocks by the Basketmaker culture about 2,500 years ago, followed later by the Early Pueblo culture. Paiutes were living in this area in 1865 when Mormons settled at nearby St. Thomas at the south end of the Moapa Valley. Farming, ranching and mining occurred in the region along a narrow stretch of water.

Valley Of Fire State Park History
Ancient petroglyphs were carved into red sandstone rock formations at Valley of Fire State Parka remnant from the Ancestral Puebloans living in and around the modern-day Moapa Valley area 2,500 years ago. By the mid-1860s, Mormon missionaries settled St. Thomas, where they began ranching, farming, and mining in the region. Interestingly enough, St. Thomas was flooded by the waters of Lake Mead during Hoover Dam construction in the early 1930s.
In 1931, a transfer of 8,760 acres of federal land to the state of Nevada began the creation of Valley of Fire State Park. The Civilian Conservation Corps built the park from 1933 through the early 1940s, making campgrounds, stone cabins, trails, and roads. The park opened in 1934 and was officially designated Valley of Fire State Park in 1935, becoming Nevadas first state park.

There is literally so much to see and do at Kartchner Caverns State Park that an extended stay is almost necessary to experience the entire park. 55 campsites can be reserved for either campers or RV users to enjoy under the Southern Arizona desert sky. After touring the caves, hiking various trails, and enjoying the discovery center, youre going to need a spot to rest easy for the night before waking up for more fun!

Valley Of Fire State Park Park Free Campsites 4 Miles: Valley Of Fire State Park Snowbird Mesa Aka Poverty Flats

The road in is Dirt and 1 miles from a paved road. According to the residents of the mesa it is free camping from October to June and managed by the bureau of reclamation. I found only 1 reference at the listed website . It listed no max stay. There were about 40 campers, some in boats, tents, trucktoppers big rigs. Water is available and dump down the road about 10 15 miles to Echo Bay.
Until further notice:
- Towhee Trail is closed between Honker Bay Trail and Campsite 12 due to downed trees.
- Mirador Trail is closed from the Two Rock Trail to the trail end of Mirador Trail.
- MacDonald to Grass Valley Connector Trail is closed due to damage caused by rainstorm.
Inside Valley Of Fire State Park
Valley of Fire State Park might have stunning geological formations and panoramic views, but it is also home to numerous recreational activities that visitors of all ages can enjoy, including hiking, picnicking, wildlife viewing, exhibits, and more.
Hiking: There are miles of trails for you to wander in the state park, all of which give you incredible views of the park and its surroundings. Some of these include the Petroglyph Canyon Trail to Mouses Tank, Pastel Canyon, Fire Wave Trail, and White Domes Trail.
Picnicking: Shaded areas with restrooms are located at Atlatl Rock, Seven Sisters, the Cabins, near Mouse’s Tank Trailhead and White Domes. These serve as great picnic spots to spend your afternoon.
Wildlife viewing: Look out for birds such as the raven, house finch, sage sparrow and roadrunner during your travels, as well as animals such as lizards, snakes, coyote, kit fox, spotted skunk, black tailed jackrabbit and antelope ground squirrel. If youre extremely lucky, you may even spot a desert tortoise – a rare species which is protected by state law.
Exhibits: Its highly recommended that each visitor make a stop at the Visitor Center shortly after arriving at the park. Not only do they have a wealth of information to help you during your stay, but they also provide exhibits on the geology, ecology, prehistory and history of the park and the nearby region. Its open daily from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm.
