How To Make A Reservation On Recreationgov
To make a reservation on Recreation.gov, you must first have an account. You can create an account by clicking the button on the homepages upper right-hand corner via the desktop version. You can also use the Recreation.gov mobile app. Once you have secured an account, make sure to confirm your login and password.
This is a huge destination spot, and campers will try to book immediately. Customers are encouraged to do the following to help ensure successfully booking on the dates of their choosing:
- Sign in to your Recreation.gov account before the 8:00 a.m. MST reservation release.
- Have a plan in place. Have dates picked out for your stay and select your preferred campground. You can find information on all park campgrounds here.
- Book online through Recreation.gov only.
Hiking Near Jenny Lake Campground In Grand Teton National Park
Jenny Lake Campground is pretty centrally located within Grand Teton National Park, so if you want to do some exploring, youre not far from some incredible sites. One of the other reasons we love Jenny Lake Campground is that there are some great trails nearby that you can access without having to get into your car. The trails around Jenny Lake are basically part of the same network, so you can mix and match depending on your time frame and ability level.

Death Canyon Shelf Camping Zone
Grand Teton National Park provides an extensive backcountry trail system, including eleven different permitted camping zones in the park’s southwest region. Together, these different zones create the rest-stops along the iconic Teton Crest Trail, which exposes some of the best alpine scenery in the American West. All camping zones are only accessible via backpacking and require a sought-after permit.
All permit holders need to pack in every bit of gear they need to these backcountry, zero-amenity camping zones. Hikers also need to be sure to pack everything back out after spending the night. Permits can be obtained online beginning January 8th of the same season.
While all camping zones provide a memorable overnight experience, the Death Canyon Shelf stands above the rest. Situated high on the skyline above Death Canyon, the Death Canyon Shelf Camping Zone allows for 16 groups to disperse camp in the area. For budget campers, there are also free primitive sites located just outside the park boundary. If you take the Outside Road , you can turn toward the Gros Ventre Campground and Kelly and proceed out of the park boundary to Shadow Mountain. This area is protected by the Forest Service, and camping at existing fire rings is allowed without a fee. Just be sure not to make new fire rings and follow the Leave No Trace code of ethics.

North Grand Teton Campgrounds
Only Colter Bay RV Park and Headwaters Campground take reservations. Make reservations a year in advance. All other campgrounds are first-come, first-served these fill up by noon late June-August. All campsites, except in Colter Bay RV Park, include picnic tables, fire rings, drinking water, flush toilets, and bear boxes for food storage. ADA campsites and toilets are available. Bikers and hikers can share designated campsites .

Do You Have To Reserve Grand Teton Campgrounds
Yes, all seven campgrounds in Grand Teton require reservations. All reservations are open six months in advance via Recreation.gov. If you dont want to make a reservation, a handful of campgrounds in Yellowstone National Park or nearby Bridger-Teton National Forest offer first-come, first-served camping.
I recommend making a camping reservation in Grand Teton as soon as possible. Given the short camping season , campsites are in high demand.

Important Tips For Grand Teton National Park Camping
Like most national park campgrounds, Jenny Lake Campground is no-frills. Each campsite includes a picnic table, fire pit, and bear locker. There is a flat, level pad to set your tent up on, which we always appreciate. Ours had room for two small tents. The washrooms include toilets and sinks, but no showers, and there are water spigots sprinkled throughout the campground for filling up your bottles and for cooking. Headwaters Campground And Rv Sites At Flagg Ranch
If you are looking for a developed campground in between the entrances to Grand Teton National Park and Yellowstone National Park, Headwaters Campground is the place for you.
It is located on the John D. Rockefeller Jr. Memorial Parkway between Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks, five miles north of Grand Teton and just south of Yellowstones South Entrance. Take advantage of its amenities that include showers, laundry facilities and full hook-ups for your RV. With 175 large sites, it is open early June through late September. It can accommodate vehicles up to 30 feet.
Reservations: Please call 800-443-2311 for reservations or go to gtlc.com for the 2021 season. Reservations for the 2022 season will be available on Recreation.gov for the 2022 season beginning November 2021.

Shadow Mountain Dispersed Camping
Shadow Mountain Dispersed Camping offers spectacular views of the Gros Ventre Mountains and the Teton Range in nearby Grand Teton National Park. Image by The Dyrt Camper Cyndee F.
The Shadow Mountain Dispersed Camping area in Bridger-Teton National Forest operated by USDA Forest Service offers over 11 miles open to Off-Highway Vehicles less than or equal to 50 inches width between June 1st through November 30th. This area is characterized by heavily timbered routes interspersed with small meadows and narrow gorges, as well as high ridgelines with spectacular views of the Gros Ventre Mountains and the Teton Range in nearby Grand Teton National Park. This trail system can be accessed by two trailheads along the north side of Shadow Mountain off of the Shadow Mountain Road- Rd #30340.

Great quiet spot. This spot was awesome! Take antelope road past Mormon Row and turn left! We didnt go farther up the mountain because we had a low clearance vehicle but our campsite had a perfect view! Got there at about 2:00 PM Thursday and got the second to last spot. Campgrounds In Grand Teton Are Now Reservation

Camping at all campgrounds in Grand Teton National Park and the John D. Rockefeller, Jr. Memorial Parkway is available by reservation only. Visitors wishing to reserve an RV or tent site for the 2022 season are able to do so by visiting Recreation.gov. Please note that reservations for these campgrounds cannot be made through the Grand Teton Lodge Company website or call center.
Campsite reservations are expected to fill quickly! Visitors are strongly encouraged to plan ahead and book early.

What You Need To Know About Camping In Grand Teton
- Season dates may vary by year. Be sure to check the website for information on opening and closing dates while you are planning your trip.
- Pack plenty of blankets/warm sleeping bags. While daytime temperatures can be quite warm, nights are always cold, even in the middle of the summer!
- Reservations are now required for all Grand Teton campgrounds.
- Full Hookups are available at the Colter Bay RV Park, Headwaters RV Park, and Signal Mountain .
- Dump Stations are available in Colter Bay, Gros Ventre, Signal Mountain, and Headwaters.
- Each standard campsite only accommodates six people. If you have a larger group, you will need to book two campsites or look for a campground that offers double or group campsites.
- Grand Teton is bear country! Each campsite provides a bear box for you to store your food and other scented items in, but be sure to educate yourself on proper food storage practices before you go.

Grand Teton National Park Free Campsites 5 Miles: Jackson Hole Grand Teton Natl Park

The road in is Gravel and a couple miles from a paved road. Jackson Hole Grand Teton Natl Park is open Access midJune to MidSept only due to snow/mud. There are 6-15 campsites at this location.
Turn east off US 89 and drive up the Forest Svc Rd. 30310. Shortly after leaving the Park there are a couple of nice sites off to the left suitable for big outfits, but their access may be muddy. If you like continue Rd 30310 a quarter mile and bearing left on to Forest Rd 3340, up the hill and a couple of hairpin turns. DO NOT TAKE THE FIRST user made road on the left as there is a large rock midway in. Continue a short distance to the second user made road on your left, which will take you under a power line out onto an overlook, which in mind has no equal â anywhere! It will take your breath away!

The road in is Dirt and 1.5 miles from a paved road. You may stay 5 days at Shadow Mountain.
Could be one of the most fantastic views! Shadow Mountain lies along the eastern border of Grand Teton Natâl Park. Off Highway 26/89 just north of the Park Visitor Center and Blacktail Butte turn east on Antelope Flats Rd. At the stop sign turn north to Shadow Mt. The road becomes gravel/dirt â DO NOT travel this road in the spring or in very wet times.

Granite Canyon To String Lake
The 38-mile traverse from Granite Canyon Trailhead to String Lake Trailhead is almost identical to my favorite Teton Crest Trail itinerary and arguably more tantalizing to some backpackers. It explores another of the cliff-flanked eastern canyons and more of the southern Teton Rangeand offers another appealing itinerary option when seeking a permit thats hard to get.
Granite Canyon compares with Death Canyon for scenery, camping options, and the chance of seeing moose, and this route also brings you past pretty Marion Lake, which sits in a bowl at the base of the cliffs of 10,537-foot Housetop Mountain, and the distinctive spire of Spearhead Peak, in the area where the Teton Crest Trail ascends onto the high plateau that it traverses for numerous miles all the way to Hurricane Pass.

More Grand Teton National Park Campgrounds Going Into Reservation System
More campgrounds at Grand Teton National Park will be available by reservation months ahead of your visit/GTLC file
Visitors to Grand Teton National Park and the John D. Rockefeller, Jr. Memorial Parkway in Wyoming will soon be able to reserve campsites in advance at all concession-operated campgrounds. Reservations will go live on Recreation.gov beginning January 26 for the 2021 operating season. All park campgrounds that were first come, first served are moving to this advance reservation system.
The new system responds directly to public requests for a reservation system at park campgrounds, prompting a collaborative effort between the National Park Service, Grand Teton Lodge Company, Signal Mountain Lodge, and Recreation.gov. Visitors will now have the ability to plan ahead with confidence and know they will have a place to stay and camp when they arrive, improving the visitor experience, and reducing wait times and associated traffic congestion at park campgrounds. The reservation system will streamline the camping process, allowing park visitors to check the availability of sites in real time and receive immediate confirmation.
Campgrounds that have previously been reservable, including the Colter Bay RV Park and Tent Village, as well as Headwaters Campground, will continue to be reservable at gtlc.com or by calling 307-543-3100 for the 2021 season. However, reservations for these areas will transition to Recreation.gov for the 2022 season.
