There are many different ways to be admitted to a campsite. To camp legally while under 18 in Australia, make sure that youre in an official camping area where permission is granted by the local council. This includes getting an access permit, camping on public land, and booking a campsite before you arrive.
If you want to camp alone, your parents can reserve a campsite for you by contacting a national park and requesting one. On most rural land, any person over 12 years of age can camp without a license but must still abide by local laws and regulations. In some cases, children under 14 are also allowed to camp as long as adults are with them.
The only difference between camping rules on public and private land is that you may have to pay for a camping license when camping on personal property.
While still legal in national forests, camping generally needs to be done within designated campsites. This can often mean creating a camp with vehicle access and toilets nearby, which may not be everyones idea of camping.

Located along scenic Highway One approximately 140 miles south of San Francisco, the popular park sits along the western slope of the Santa Lucia Mountains.
Once you get your campsite settled, youre just a short drive or hike away from Pfeiffer Beach, a must-see alcove.
Pfeiffer Beach is not a California State Park, however, so theres a separate entrance fee for access.
Where to camp: Pitch your tent along the Big Sur River, which winds its way through the state park, for the best views.
There are more than 175 RV and tent sites situated on or near the river, including two group tent sites and a hike/bike site, both of which are free of RVs.
Since this spot is so popular, sites fill up quickly. As a result, reservations are highly recommended. You can make one up to 7 months in advance.
When its open: Big Sur is open year-round, but peak season runs March to September.
Cost: The camping fee for a standard site is $35. A premium riverfront site will cost you $50, plus a $8 reservation fee.
Why its cool: Youll encounter three different ecosystems in one park.
Head to the Quinault Rain Forest, a temperate rain forest , to see the largest Sitka spruce tree in the world. Theres a 30-mile road that loops through the trees, but we think hiking is a better option.
Always Check For Cancellations
Campground availability may change more than you think. I would recommend checking Discover Camping regularly to see whether any bookings have been cancelled.
And even if provincial campgrounds appear to be completely booked, its still worth checking in person for no shows.
Reserved sites are held until 11 AM the day after the scheduled arrival date. So if someone doesnt notify the campground host of a late arrival, their entire reservation will automatically be cancelled the next day.
While working at provincial park campground, I was always surprised by the amount of people who would book a long stay and then leave early.

Hammocks Beach State Park
Hammocks Beach State Park is one of the most untouched beaches in North Carolina and a perfect place to camp.
The island is accessible only by boat, kayak, or passenger ferry, making it the perfect place to truly unwind. Camping here means being surrounded by wildlife like local birds and dolphins, wading through tide pools, fishing, shell hunting, walking on the beach in the moonlight and falling asleep to the sound of the waves.
There are roughly a dozen small campsites tucked away in the dunes of the island with a picnic table and post to hang food. About a half-mile from the ferry access point youll find a building that houses a restroom, water spigot, picnic area, and outdoor showers .
Make sure you are prepared for a short walk along the dunes to your campsite and bring all the food, water bottles, and supplies youll need. The Bear Island Water Trail is one of the best kayaking places in the area and three of the campsites can only be reached by paddle.
The absolute best time to travel here is the late spring and early fall before it gets hot on the island and the mosquitoes come out.
Bear Island is secluded and perfect for anyone looking to explore the southern outer banks in its pristine condition.
