This is a great camp. The officers at the RV check-in gate were friendly and helpful. The campsites are drive-through and spacious. The hookups are all in one spot. Several young families live on-site which I like to see. The bathrooms are clean and roomy. You cannot go through the main gate, but access is easy and well-paved. State park RV camping can be an extremely peaceful way to recharge your batteries and appreciate the beauty in nature. Abilene State Park has several different campgrounds, including Brushy Trail, Oak Grove, and Pecan Grove. Three sites come with full-hookups, while the remaining 39 individual sites come with water and electric hookups. Restrooms and shower facilities are located near each campground. Each campsite has a picnic table, fire ring, and grill.

If you can’t reserve a spot at Abilene State Park, you can check out the Abilene KOA, only about half an hour south of the park. This KOA offers 50-amp service, Wi-Fi, cable TV, and laundry room. Campers can also enjoy a snack bar, purchase firewood and propane, and bring their four-legged companions. A dog park is conveniently located on the KOA grounds.

Camp in an RV near Abilene State Park at the Whistle Stop RV Resort located in Abilene, also about a 30-minute drive from Abilene State Park. Very nice RV park. Most of the sites are pull-through and they are very long and wide enough for RVs with multiple slides. There are a few back-in sites on one edge of the park. The spaces are a nice size, plenty of room to put out your slides and awnings. All FHU sites, which is always nice. There are laundry facilities. There is only 1 bathroom/shower available and it is very clean. The shower is HUGE and walk-in, almost the size of a double shower with plenty of hot water. Due to COVID 19 and weather conditions access to the Abilene State Park Swimming Pool may be limited.

Guidelines encourage social distancing and give park staff time to disinfect the pool area. When the pool is open, tickets can be purchased for these prices:

• $1 for children under 12
• $2 for anyone 12 and older.
• You must also pay the daily park fee will be added to the price

During the season, the swimming pool reaches maximum capacity on most weekends. Park visitors, including campers, are not guaranteed access to the swimming pool.

The swimming pool has ADA entry options, although the restrooms are not fully wheelchair accessible.The historic swimming pool, built in the early 1930s by the Civilian Conservation Corps.
