Tips For Camping In Oregon

The BEST FREE Camping In Oregon AND Cat Fishing!
  • Many of the campgrounds that are fun by the U.S Forest Service are pretty rustic, meaning the restrooms are likely to be pretty minimal, and the frills are few and far between. The incredible surrounds make up for this, though!
  • If you are on a tight budget, there are places in Oregon where you will be able to park up for free if you dont mind giving up some luxuries. Most of these spots are dotted across public land and are often run on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • If you spend a lot of time in the national and state parks of the area, then it may be worth investing in n annual pass, as those daily fees certainly add up. An Interagency Annual Pass allows you into Oregon, Washington, and US sites operated by the National Park Service, US Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management, Bureau of Reclamation, and US Fish and Wildlife Service. Another option to look into is the Oregon Pacific Coast Passport.
  • Some of the most unique camping options, such as tipis, yurts, and cabins are reserved up to 9 months before most summer weekends, so if this is what youre after, book well in advance! And aside from Booking.com, you can find them on Airbnb too!
  • If you are flexible enough to get out the door early, there are plenty of campgrounds that dont require a reservation, and youll have a high chance of snatching a first-come, first-served site. Especially if you are camping on a non-weekend and if you grab it and set up in the morning when everyone is leaving.

Epic Campgrounds At The Oregon Coast

Post Overview: Best Camping + Campgrounds at the Oregon Coast

Like most lifelong Oregonians, Ive spent my fair share of time basking in the glory of the mighty Oregon Coast.

Childhood memories of sandy toes and sunburns miraculously soothed by Tillamook ice cream have made me realize just how lucky I was to spend most of my summers relaxing and camping at the Oregon Coast.

Years later, my travels have taken me to jaw-dropping scenic wonders the world over and yet nothing beats the nostalgia of my home states jagged coastline and the liberating smell of an old-growth forest neighboring the sea.

I have a soft spot in my heart for dense foggy beaches and rock outcroppings as far as the eye can see.

I attribute this weakness to my mothers love for the Oregon Coast we spent most summer weekends at the beach growing up.

So yes, this post about the best camping at the Oregon Coast was an absolute delight to write, I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed writing it!

Who am I and why should you trust my list of the best campgrounds at the Oregon Coast?

Im a lifelong Oregonian! I was raised in Portland and spent most of my childhood weekends camping at the Oregon Coast.

Shortly after meeting my husband we embarked on a whirlwind tour of Oregon state visiting every corner and popping off at every small coastal town we passed.

My husband films national parks and forests for a living and so we spend a lot of time in nature.

Bullards Beach State Park

Our number one favorite spot to camp in Southern Oregon. Mostly because its vicinity to Old Town Bandon and to some of the most beautiful beaches on the Pacific Coast. The campground has shade in the A and B loops and if you don’t want to tent camp they do have yurts which are great for middle of winter camping. If you haven’t tried out a yurt before we highly recommend it because it’s great for those days you don’t want to quite rough it. It’s great for the kids too, you feel like you are away at summer camp. They do have theJunior Ranger program, which the kids always love to participate in. They don’t have a playground but we have never really needed it because we are always taking the kids to the various beaches around and when you camp at any state park you get in free to any other state park with your campground pass, for the duration. I’d say that’s a pretty great perk. To read more about What to do in Bandon check out our blog post here.
