If you want to see some of the best canyons then canoeing or kayaking in Lake Powell is the best place. Some of the most popular places are Antelope Canyon, Lone Star Canyon and Labrynth Canyon. Lake Powell is a large recreation area so be aware of larger boats and stay close to the shoreline to avoid choppy water.

Camping And Fishing In The White Mountains Az

The White Mountains of northern Arizona are a haven for anglers, campers, and those seeking some respite from the 100+ degree temperatures of Southern Arizona. There you will find an abundance of pine trees, aspens, babbling creeks, rolling meadows with lakes spotted here and there, and wildlife filling all of these places. I’ve been to the White Mountains a handful of times during the winter to get my snow fix but I had never been in the summer. I’ve heard amazing things about summer in the White Mountains. I had to see for myself and when I mentioned this trip to a coworker we decided to make it a fishing trip too!

I hadn’t fished since I was about 12 or 13 but I really want to add that skill to my outdoor repertoire. I borrowed my Grandpa’s fishing rods and he gave me a quick casting lesson in my parents’ backyard pool. I felt confident in my skills, it was just like riding a bike. However, fly fishing was going to be a completely new skill. I want to be that angler in waders, knee deep in a river in Montana, fly line waving through the air with purpose, snagging that big fish. I even went to the local fly fishing store Dry Creek Outfitters and the owner Eric helped me with some basics, showed me the essential knots , got me some flies and encouraged me to give it a go! I went into this trip ready to catch some fish!

Roper Lake Cabin Rentals

Imperial National Wildlife Refuge was established in 1941 to protect wetlands along the Colorado River. The 25,768-acre refuge protects 30 miles of wildlife habitat along the lower Colorado River. In 1938, Imperial Dam was completed on the river north of Yuma, Arizona. The waters stored behind the dam formed numerous backwaters and marsh areas along the edges of the river. These wetlands provided excellent resting, feeding, and nesting habitat for a variety of migratory birds and other wildlife. Serving as a boundary between Arizona and California, this portion of the river includes the last un-channelized section before its waters enter Mexico. The river and its associated backwater lakes and wetlands are a green oasis and a significant contrast with the surrounding desert mountains.

Kofa National Wildlife Refuge was established in 1939 for the protection of desert bighorn sheep and other native wildlife following a 1936 campaign by the Arizona Boy Scouts. Major Frederick R. Burnham, a frontiersman turned conservationist, observed that populations of bighorn sheep were sharply declining and appealed to the Boy Scouts to take up the cause. For two years, more than 10,000 boy Scouts and their leaders campaigned to protect bighorn sheep through a save the bighorns poster contest, talks, and dramatizations on the radio and at school assemblies. As a result of the campaign, land was set aside for the establishment of Kofa Game Range .

Alamo Lake Cabin Rentals

Alamo Lake State Park offers four rental cabins that overlook Alamo Lake and the surrounding desert. Each cabin features a covered wood porch and comfortable features. Campers must supply their own linens.

Bear Canyon Lake And Camping Area

Bear Canyon Lake and Camping Area is a wonderful place to camp for those who want to do some fishing as well as have access to hiking and biking trails. The camping area offers a partially developed campground among pine, oak, and aspen trees. There is no trash service, so the campground is a pack it in pack it out area.

This campground is ideal for families who want to get away and spend some time in an area that feels more remote and less developed. There is no fee for camping here but the road to get to the campground is not always open. The road will sometimes be closed for forest restoration work as well as for weather conditions.

Mogollon Campground On The Mogollon Rim

If your goal is a campground set against spectacular views, you’ll want to set up camp on the Mogollon Rim. The area is known for its jaw-dropping vistas of a wide valley that is home to the largest Ponderosa pines forest in the world. This campground has easy access to these views, and is only a few miles away from Woods Canyon Lake, where you can go kayaking or fishing. There are 26 campsites with a campfire ring, grill and picnic table, and the campground is open from May to October.

Canyon Lake Apache Junction 45 Minutes E Of Phoenix

This is a lesser-known dive site but Canyon Lake is 900-acre lake just east of Phoenix that is a fine spot for scuba diving. It is rumored that there are a lot of lost items at the bottom of this lake so divers have a good time finding interesting finds. You may also come face to face with a largemouth bass!

More popular dive spots are at lakes already mentioned on our list:

• Lake Pleasant: used as a dive training site, check out the dam, Tech Island and wreck sites
• Lake Mohave: visibility is very clear in the winter, look for the sunken school bus!

Chevelon Canyon Lake Payson

My favorite lake in all of Arizona, Chevelon Canyon Lake is a small reservoir located in a remote area of the Mogollon Rim. It is so remote, you can only access it via a steep hike in. Because of how hard it is to access, some of the best fishing in the state can be had in these waters.

This remote lake is home to absolutely giant brown and rainbow trout, with many state records coming from here. Not only does the access issues help these fish grow bigger, but live bait is also prohibited.

I would only recommend this lake to more experienced and in shape anglers, but the giant fish and beautiful scenery are well worth the effort. Many times you will have the water to yourself and no shortage of fat trout on the end of your line.

Lower Juan Miller Campground

Lower Juan Miller campground is located in eastern Arizona and is a wonderful quiet campground. This is a smaller campground that is not heavily used. If you are wanting to find a campground where you will be on your own, this is the place for you. It is shaded by Gamble oak and Sycamore trees and offers lots of wildlife viewing.

There is no fee for staying in this campground, and reservations are not required. If you want to stay in a campground that will fill more like dispersed camping, the Lower Juan Miller campground is a great campground for you. There are only 4 campsites in this campground so even if it is full, which is unlikely, you still wont feel like you are camping with a crowd.

Patagonia Lake Cabin Rentals

Patagonia, Arizona

With a commanding view of this beautiful state park, the Patagonia Lake cabin rentals give visitors a home base for their southern Arizona adventures! Relax after a busy day of exploration while watching the sun go down behind beautiful Patagonia Lake.

The cabins are furnished with a queen-sized bed, two sets of bunk beds, table and chairs, mini-fridge, microwave, ceiling fan with overhead light, and electricity. Cabins also have heating and air-conditioning! Seven two-three room cabin rentals are available with beautiful views of the lake. The cabins are on the southeast end of the lake, which makes for a very scenic setting!

Is Boondocking Legal In Arizona

Boondocking is illegal in some parts of Arizona. Camping is done in developed campgrounds where camping fees are issued to the tourists. Arizona Administrative Code Title 12 sets the requirement and also specifies the length of stay. The Government extends the ban on boondocking in parts of Arizona.

Larson Ridge Camping Areatonto National Forest

Bathrooms, established campsites, and fire rings are all available at Larson Ridge Camping Area. Larson Ridge can fill-up quickly year-round so heading out early proves to pay off in finding a prime campsite. And be sure to find an actual, marked campsite. The Forest Service does check and ask campers in unofficial sites to move.

The sites are set only ¼ mile back from the road, but our campers only report quiet solitude. Unlike Freidlein Praire, Larson Ridge sites can accommodate larger RVs and trailers without the rough roads to access.
