Pitch your tent in Wildrose Campground, which is sandwiched in the middle of the mellow Wildrose Canyon and coveted for both its isolated location and proximity to much of the Death Valley action. Head to the back of the 24-site facility for tent-only sites , and youll be within striking distance of 11,049-foot Telescope Peak, the highest mountain in the park. Its a full summit mission via the 6-mile, 3,100-foot climb that passes old-growth bristlecone pines along the way. The peak is a narrow, rocky ridge with the best view in the park.

With plenty of wild backcountry to explore, thousands of trails to wander, and some of the best fall colors found anywhere on the planet, Gunnison National Forest is a paradise for campers. The region has 56 designated campsite, allowing visitors to choose where to set up camp based on their favorite outdoor settings. Those options include pitching your tent on the banks of an alpine lake, in an open meadow, buried inside an aspen grove, or even on the peak of a mountain. Since much of the park is located at higher elevations, fall tends to come early to the forest, often peaking in late September or early October. But even if you can’t get there until later in the season, the trees still hold plenty of color for backpackers to take in even as fall begins to wind down.

The and Halloween may be over, but Día de los Muertos lasts until November 2 and the celebrations dont stop then. This is especially true in the festive city of Albuquerque. In Los Lunas, the celebrations dont stop until November 5 either. Thats the last day of the Día de los Muertos Show at the Tome Art Gallery. Big Bend Ranch State Park

Bring your mountain bike and pedal some of the parks 70 miles of trails through fields of crystal or to a desert oasis complete with a waterfall. Just dont ignore the national park altogether. There are even more than 34 miles of trail to explore, most of which are awash in the colors of the seasons starting in mid- to late-October.
