One of the more primitive and lesser-known gems of the state, Pillsbury State Park is home to a diversity of beautiful landscapes ranging from dense forests, lush wetlands, and tranquil ponds, and an array of wildlife including loons and moose. Located mainly in Washington and partially in Goshen, the park is also home to the headwaters of the Ashuelot River and offers a variety of recreational activities such as hiking, mountain biking, rustic camping with no electricity and limited running water. Mount Sunapee in the northern section of the park is connected to Mount Monadnock via the famous 51-mile Monadnock-Sunapee Greenway hiking trail.

Lake Francis State Park

Resting on the shores of Lake Francis, Lake Francis State Park draws outdoor-lovers and adventurers for hiking, camping, mountain biking, ATV riding, fishing and canoeing on the reservoir, and snow sports in winter. Lake Francis Campground offers 45 sites, including nine with electricity and water hookups and nine sites designed specifically for ATV camping. Campground amenities include picnic tables, fire rings, and comfort stations with showers, drinking water and vault toilets, and other facilities range from a childrens playground and hiking trails to a dump station and boat ramps for water-sports.

Not a lot of campgrounds offer golf cart rentals because the property is that large. But the privately-owned Moose Hillock Camping Resort does! Its one of many extras you can deem necessary during your stay. The best part has got to be the tropical lagoon complete with a Spanish Galleon, a pirate ship! Its got a tunnel waterslide that traverses the masts of the abandoned ship and is a favorite among residents.

There are weekly movie nights at the pool too just make sure to keep an eye on how wrinkly your skin is getting while watching The Goonies on the large screen.

White Lake State Park

One of the largest campgrounds in the White Mountains, White Lake is also the only one in the White Mountains on a lake with a swimming beach. The 203 campsites are fairly open, under tall pine trees along the shore of White Lake. Many of the sites have lake views.

The lake was formed at the close of the Ice Age, when ice was buried beneath glacial debris. As the ice melted, it left a depression that filled with meltwater. You can walk around the lake on a trail to see beaver houses and perhaps spot loons, or you can rent boats at the campground for fishing.

Although the beach and a picnic area are also open for day use, the numbers of visitors are limited daily to prevent overcrowding the park. A few larger campsites are reserved for youth groups.

Hampton Beach State Park

Although the campsites are close together and only for RVs, Hampton Beach State Park has the only ocean-front camping in the state. For those who don’t want to travel far to the surf, there’s no place closer than this.

The campground has 28 sites with full hookups, and is open for reservations from Memorial Day weekend through Columbus Day weekend. It is open for camping without reservation beginning the last weekend in April.

Along with miles of white-sand beaches, Hampton rates five stars for water quality and has an active calendar of special events, including a major sand-sculpture contest in late June.

Moose Brook State Park

Moose Brook State Park occupies 755 acres at an elevation of 1,070 feet in Coos County and offers unparalleled scenery and a variety of outdoor activities. Built by the Civilian Conservation Corps during the Great Depression and opened to the public in 1936, the park is tucked away in the White Mountains Region just north of the Presidential Range and boasts pristine landscapes of forested valleys and rugged mountains, and the meandering Peabody and Moose Rivers that flow through the park and into a shallow pool. Deer Mountain Campground is a family-friendly campground in the Connecticut Lakes State Forest in Pittsburg and is an ideal base for exploring the 1,648-acre forest and recreational area. Harbor Hill Camping Area

Nestled in the beautiful Lakes Region of New Hampshire near the picturesque town of Meredith, Harbor Hill Camping Area is a quiet family-friendly campground with a variety of camping sites and excellent facilities. Jigger Johnson And Blackberry Crossing

Jigger Johanson and Blackberry Crossing are six miles apart along the Kancamagus Scenic Byway located inside the White Mountain National Forest. The large tent sites in each campground are well spaced, carved from the dense second-growth forest along the banks of the Swift River.

Near the campgrounds, trails climbing several peaks are available. 2 stand out trails in this area are the trail to the summit of Mt. Chocorua and the trail to beautiful Sabbaday Falls A short trail connects Jigger Johnson to the Russell-Colbath Historic Site. Blackberry Crossing is only a short walk from the Albany Covered Bridge.

Blackberry Crossing was a Civilian Conservation Corps Camp during the 1930s. Its self-guided tour explores the old camp. Far larger, Jigger Johnson offers 74 sites for tents and RVs and more amenities, such as coin-operated showers. Reservations are not available at either campground.

Jericho Mountain State Park

Tucked away in the White Mountains in Berlin, the Jericho Mountain State Park, also referred to as Jericho Lake State Park is a 230-acre park is centered around the 7,200-acre Jericho Lake to the south. The lake offers an array of activities ranging from boating and fishing to kayaking and swimming to land-based recreation around the lake like hiking, mountain biking, ATV and UTV trail bike riding, picnicking, snowboarding, cross-country skiing, and camping. There is a ride-in/ride-out campground with water and electric hookups, picnic tables, fire rings, and comfort stations with showers and vault toilets, fully-equipped overnight cabins, and a modern Visitors Center, and the park hosts the Jericho ATV Festival every year.

Lost River Valley Campground

Although Lost River Valley is a privately owned campground, it is surrounded by the White Mountain National Forest and close to major tourist attractions, including Lost River Gorge, the Kancamagus Scenic Byway, and the many sights in Franconia Notch.

The 125 riverside campsites are well spaced and screened by forest some have RV hookups, and there are attractive camping cabins. Along with basic staples and supplies, at the camp store, you can also buy ice, LP gas, and firewood. Reservations are not accepted between late June and Labor Day, during which period there is also a three-night minimum stay.

Children will like this campground for its many activities: a sandy beach, paddleboat and kayak rentals, a games room, tennis and badminton courts, basketball, volleyball, and a playground with a wooden train. The two adjacent mountain streams are stocked with brook trout.
