Cedar Hill State Park Campgrounds
Cedar Hill State Park is an enormous park that sits on over 1,800 acres and offers up some of the best camping and RVing in North Texas. Most of the campsites offer a covered picnic table, fire ring, water, and electric. The camping areas are heavily treed offering plenty of shade.

Cedar Hill State Park is packed with amenities. You can spend a week here and not get through exploring this great park. This park is packed with great restrooms a short walking distance from all campsites. You will find kayaking, fishing, pond fishing, hiking and biking trails and much more.

The camping at Cedar Hill State Park is great for the outdoors-man. There are plenty of places to fish including two concrete fishing piers. The large park offers many trails for hiking or mountain biking. And there is a great swim beach area to cool off. There are restrooms located within a short distance of each campsite .
Parking spaces at each campsite make unloading and loading your gear from your vehicle a breeze.
We absolutely love these campgrounds and cannot recommend them enough.

Cedar Hill State Park is located on FM 1382 and the eastern shore of Joe Pool Lake in Cedar Hill, Texas , ten miles southwest of Dallas. The park was acquired in 1982 and was opened in 1991. The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department operates the 1,826-acre park.
Cedar Hill State Park has two available camping areas as well a boat ramp, a small picnic area, and two fishing jetties.

Located on beautiful Joe Pool Lake, Cedar Hill State Park is one of the most visited parks in Texas consisting of 1,826 acres of rugged, natural beauty reminiscent of the Texas hill country. If was not for the amazing views of the Dallas and Fort Worth skylines, visitors easily forget they are in the largest urban park in the state and the fourth-largest metropolitan area in the nation.
Whether you want to take the boat out, go fishing, swim, or kayak, the 7,500 acre Joe Pool Lake is the place! But it’s not all about the lake. The surrounding area’s superb natural beauty and proximity to other attractions draw visitors from all over the country.

- A swimming area
White crappie, largemouth bass, and catfish are the main sport fish around Joe Pool Lake, but sunfish are also present and very catchable.

Best Trails In Cedar Hill State Park
Cedar Hill State Park is located on FM 1382 and the eastern shore of Joe Pool Lake in Cedar Hill, Texas , ten miles southwest of Dallas. A History Of Agriculture
A unique feature of this park is the Penn Farm Agricultural History Center. Once a family farm, now it has been turned into a great opportunity to see what rural life was like back in the 1800s.
Follow the 1/2 mile trail around the farm to see the Penn Family home, barns, and farming equipment.
If you go early enough, you may catch a glimpse of some current residents. We saw a cottontail rabbit and a lizard. We also saw some very large birds in the one of the barns but I couldnt tell you what kind they were.
Dont leave without walking by the farms windmill.

The Improved Camping Areas
You are assigned your campsite when you check in. If the park is very busy you will not have many choices but it never hurts to ask for particular site preferences . The folks who have checked me in were quite accommodating.
There is a parking area at each site for your vehicle. If you have a tent site there is parking for two cars. For a camper site the parking pad can accommodate an RV or pickup/camper arrangement. There are different sized pads so if you have some special requirements for your rig, you might want to call the park and see if they have a site that is right for your needs.

A Beautiful Look At Farm Life Long Ago
Penn Farm Agricultural History Center pays tribute to the disappearing Texas family farm and affords a glimpse into agrarian history when farm machinery took the place of the horse and mule. The farm is open seven days a week to self-guided tours . Special, guided tours are available for schools and other groups by calling 972-291-5940.

Cedar Hill State Park Dallas Overview
A short distance away from downtown Dallas, Cedar Hill State Park is an oasis near Joe Pool Lake which boasts of about 350 different campsites. These include Full Hookup Campsites, Primitive Hike-in Campsites and Campsites with Electricity. They are equipped with facilities such as restrooms, fire rings, water and sewer hookups, electric hookups and chemical toilets.
Moreover, the lake and gravel beaches are ideal for swimming, boating, paddling or fishing, while the trails like the 23-mile DORBA Trail and the 1-mile Plum Valley Trail are excellent for hiking, walking and biking. Penn Farm Agricultural History Center on the property offers an excellent chance to go on a self-guided tour to learn about farming under the Penn family.
