Brooklyn Lake Campground is located in the Medicine Bow-Routt National Forests, which stretch from north-central Colorado to southeastern Wyoming. Only about 3 hours from Denver, this remote Wyoming campground features 19 lake-view sites for dry RV/campervan camping or tent camping.
Prepare to be awed by views of the snow-capped Browns Peak and the tranquil surface of the Brooklyn Lake. No motorized boats are allowed, keeping the lake waters calm and inviting for canoeing, row boating, or stand up paddle boarding. The lake is also stocked with a variety of trout, making this a fun spot for fishing.
Brooklyn Lake Campground doesnt take reservations, and is first come, first served with a $10 fee. The site is open seasonally from July-October due to snowy conditions in the winter and spring.
Is Dispersed Camping Allowed In Grand Teton National Park
Dispersed camping is not allowed in Grand Teton National Park itself.
Like most national parks, Grand Teton requires campers to stay in marked campsites at developed campgrounds.
Luckily, the surrounding national forests offer countless options for dispersed camping and boondocking with many campsites between a half hour to an hour from the park.
Bridger-Teton National Forest, especially the Jackson Ranger District, offers the most central dispersed camping for visiting Grand Teton National Park, including free campsites with views of the Teton Range.
Here is a useful USFS map that clearly shows where dispersed camping is allowed/prohibited within the Jackson Ranger District.
Although youll likely see others roadside camping in pull-outs and parking lots both inside and outside of the national park, I strongly encourage you not to do this yourself.
If you cant find a dispersed campsite near Jackson , its best to drive a little further away from town rather than risk a hefty fine.
Furthermore, because of the areas popularity, many Grand Teton dispersed camping areas now require you to camp in designated campsites to curb overuse .

How’d It Get Its Name
My inner child can’t stop giggling at this piece of voluptuous history. The Shoshone name for the park is teewinot to describe the rangeâs âmany pinnacles,” but French Canadians granted it the name we commonly use today. Basically, the group of fur traders came through and said, Aha! Les trois tetons! Which literally translates to “The three teats,” and the park’s largest mountain, The Grand Teton, literally means, “The big tit.” I don’t see it, but cheers to their creativity, I guess?
Are There Designed Campsites In Spread Creek
In the Spread Creek dispersed camping area, one can find 14 designated campsites. These are located next to a 4-mile gravel road, which makes getting to them easy.
An important thing to mention about these designated campsites is that all of them have a stay limit. You cannot stay in any of these places for more than 5 days.
Now, you may be wondering whats the point of these designated campsites if this is a dispersed camping area? Teton County created them in order to reduce the campers impact on the environment.
One of the best things about these designated campsites is that theyre quite roomy theres enough driving space for most cars and RVs. Moreover, the campsites are spaced far apart, which is always a big plus in my book.
Another great thing about Spread Creek designated campsites is the fact that theyre not far from the main road. In other words, theyre quite easy to access.
Each campsites parking space can easily accommodate about 4 big recreational vehicles. And whats really great here is that you dont have to pay to park your RV, unlike many other RV parks, which often demand around $100 for a night.

Optional: The Cascade Canyon/paintbrush Canyon Loop
We were tempted to say f*** it and go all in with a two-night, 22-mile loop up Paintbrush Canyon, through the pass, down past Lake Solitude, and through Cascade Canyon to the boat dock, but cramp ons and an ice axe were required and we were SO unprepared. We did the safe thing and saved that portion for another time.

2,329′ gainOut and back
This is another local rec and well worth the scrambles at the end! You won’t find this lake advertised on any national park website. Why? Because it’s not maintained, so it’s good to assume a small level of risk while hiking this portion of the trail. The hike starts from the Lupine Meadows trailhead and heads up the Amphitheater Trail. At mile 3.5, you’ll veer right at the fifth switchback and onto an unmarked trail, immediately heading down a few wooden steps. Again, this trail isn’t maintained, and it’s important to track your distance to know when to make the turnâit’s easy to miss!
Expect ups and downs with plenty of rocks and a few fallen trees. Don’t forget to occasionally take your eyes off your feet and check out the view! It’s epic!
Costs And Camping For The Grand Teton National Park
The Grand Teton National park charges a 7-day entrance permit. For a private vehicle, you pay $35 for 7days, private non-commercial vehicle. If you visit with your motorcycle, you pay $30 for 7 days per motorcycle. A hiker/biker pays $20 for 7 days per hiker/biker. Children below 16 years enter for free.
If you visit the park with a commercial vehicle, the charges are based on the seating capacity of your vehicle. For a seating capacity of 1-6, the charges are an extra $15 per person, 7-15 is $125 and 16-25 is$200 while for 26+ the charges are $300.

What Kinds Of Amenities Do They Have
National park campgrounds are typically basic campgrounds without a lot of amenities. But you do have some options in Grand Teton.
Two offer sewer hookups: Colter Bay RV Park and Headwaters.
Four offer electric hookups: Gros Ventre, Signal Mountain, Colter Bay, and Colter Bay RV Park.
All of them offer dump stations except Jenny Lake and Lizard Creek.
All of them have camp stores to buy firewood, snacks, and other items except Gros Ventre and Lizard Creek.
All have flush toilets and showers except Lizard Creek and Headwaters.

Free National Forest Camping
This is dispersed camping fairly close to the north entrance of the Tetons. Its really just a large dirt lot with more options if you continue to follow the road. We used this spot as more of a desperation camp when we left the park too late to find a good spot at Shadow Mountain or elsewhere. The road in is manageable but can be very rutted out so larger older vans will have to take it easy.

The road in is Gravel and a couple miles from a paved road. Jackson Hole Grand Teton Natl Park is open Access Mid June to Mid Sept only due to snow/mud. There are 6-15 campsites at this location.

Beautiful spot right in the heart of the Tetons! There is plenty of parking and it was not too bad to get our rig there. Take it slow on the road if you have a bigger rig and its still no problem! Lots of places to park near the camping sign that gives you details about the spot and rules that is only about a mile up from the main road. There are more spots further up in the woods but we only walked there. Great place to go for a hike right from the campsite! Very quiet and great views of the entire valley!
Great Grand Teton National Park Boondocking Areas
If you are looking for a Grand Teton National Park boondocking area then the Bridger-Teton National Forest should be your choice of destinations. There are 1000s of acres of land for you to setup camp, virtually everywhere.
Both the 3.4 million-acre Bridger-Teton National Forest and the National Elk Refuge are close to Grand Teton National Park. Three wilderness areas within the Bridger-Teton have been designated as national wilderness areas: the Bridger, Gros Ventre, and Teton wildernesses.
Wildlife is diverse in the Bridger-Teton. Visitors are eager to see the wildlife. In the forest, a variety of creatures might find habitat. Horned swans, sandhill cranes, coyotes, bald eagles, and elk may be seen by visitors during the summer. Other species that are less noticeable in the summer can be spotted more easily during the winter when they migrate to lower elevations. In the winter, it is simpler to spot certain creatures, such as moose, mule deer, and bighorn sheep. Despite being famous for its enormous creatures, such as grizzly bears, Bridger-Teton is also home to over 355 different bird species.
None of these locations have restrooms, so bring a shovel and dispose of your toilet paper properly. I hope I dont have to remove this post because people abuse this site.

Lately, the Porter Mountain Grand Teton National Park boondocking area was forested, leaving sunny campsites in its wake. If you like silence, stay away from this place because it is close to a local target shooting range and an OAV area.
There is a sizable open space to the left across the livestock gate. Unfortunately, that isnt a very level spot for a huge rig, and it took a long time to level our fifth wheel. It was an ideal spot for a Starlink or solar rig. A couple smaller spots that are located further to the left would be suitable for a campervan or ultralight.

Each campsite has a number on a brown plate. 1-3 are grouped together, 4 & 5 were separate, then 6, 7 and 8 are grouped together. No toilet, trash, or water provided. Campfire rings made of rocks.

The coordinates on this website are accurate and took us to campground 5. We went at the end of October and there was no one around ! Hard to find dry firewood, so bring your own is my suggestion. Beautiful place and perfect location to camp before a day at Yellowstone!

Parachute Hill/johnny Park Road Rmnp Dispersed Camping Usda Forest Service
On the east side of Rocky Mountain National Park, Parachute Hill Road and Johnny Park Road are both acceptable choices for free RMNP dispersed camping. Take Highway 7, which connects Estes Park and Allenspark, to Boulder County Road 82 to reach the camping spot. From this point, proceed east in the direction of the Johnny Park Trail before leaving on FS Road 329.

The road in is 4Ã4. National Elk Refuge â Flat Creek Rd. is open May â November. There are 6-15 campsites at this location and the maximum RV length is unlimited. You may stay 14 days at National Elk Refuge â Flat Creek Rd.
Great campsite if others nearby are full. Arrived to where the coordinates are to find many cars parked camping in a little parking area, but if you keep going on the road there are 8 or so campsites down a 4WD dirt road. And the first campsite there was no one there and we arrived at around 11 PM.

The road in is Gravel and 2 to 30 miles from a paved road. Gros Ventre, Jackson Hole, Grand Teton NP is open June -Oct. There are 30 or more campsites at this location. You may stay 7 days, but Ck locally at Gros Ventre, Jackson Hole, Grand Teton NP.
There are some terrific, pure boondocking location back the Gros Ventre Road just east of Grand Teton Natl. Park. One of the most beautiful roads in all of Wyoming, which penetrates some 30 miles into the wilds! It is a destination unto itself! It is not a place to stay for day trips back to Grand Teton/Yellowstone Natâl Parks.
