What People Are Saying About Made In The Shade Rv Park And Campground

This campground is a friendly, quiet, and respectful community. Being new to RVs, both my neighbors and Teresa, the mager, have been super helpful. They have made this a smooth transition for us. Teresa has really made this place feel like home with all the little touches, such as the Christmas tree at the entrance. I really appreciate Teresa going above and beyond with welcoming us to this community! Jenny, from Google Review

About 79 miles of the Appalachian Trail wind through the north Georgia mountains, beginning or ending, depending on which direction youre hiking on Springer Mountain. Free trail shelters provide cover for overnight stays, but hikers can pretty much pitch their tent wherever they choose, with a few limitations. If youre camping off the trail, find a spot thats already bare from use by previous campers, and leave as small a human footprint as possible.

The hike from Amicalola Falls State Park to the trail is about 8.5 miles long. A little over six miles in, the Black Gap shelter provides an overnight camping spot. Another 13 shelters, most with a water source and some with porta-potties, are on or near the Appalachian Trail in Georgia. Keep in mind that thru-hikers set out from Springer Mountain in March and early April, so shelters will be crowded then.

    Fort Mcallister State Park

At Fort McAllister State Park, youll be surrounded by giant live oaks that have been around for hundreds of years. Unlike other campgrounds near Savannah, GA, this location is also a historic siteUnion General William Tecumseh Sherman was stopped here on his incendiary march to the sea after burning down Atlanta.

Historical reminders are prevalent at Fort McAllister, which features cannons, a hot shot furnace, bulletproof barracks, and a Civil War Museum, among other attractions. Not a history buff? The campsite is also a beautiful part of the Georgia landscape, and sits right on the banks of the Ogeechee River.

Normally there are 67 tent, trailer, and RV sites available for reservation at Fort McAllisters campground, but at the time of writing, only 41 are available while upgrades to 100 AMP service are underway.
