The road in is Gravel. Brasstown Falls is open Anytime but most people come during the spring, summer and fall.. There are 1-5 free South Carolina camping spots at this location. You may stay 14 days is what we were told, unless you move your campsite. at Brasstown Falls.

Kings Mountain National Military Park

Outside Blacksburg, near the border of South Carolina and North Carolina, is an incredible national military park. It honors the Battle of Kings Mountain and was an important victory by the American Patriots over the Loyalists during the Revolutionary War. In fact, Thomas Jefferson said the battle was the turn of the tide of success. You can stand on the battlefield where this pivotal battle occurred and stroll along a mile-and-a-half paved trail with exhibits that showcase important battle events.

In the Visitor Center, you can watch a short film that provides an overview of the battle, and check out the museum and its rare original Ferguson rifle. There are three back-country hiking trails to choose from, as well as horse trails. No RV camping is available in the park, but there are campgrounds nearby, including the highly-rated Iron City Campground.

Why Youll Love It: Free beach camping on the east coast is hard to find! Not only does Cape Lookout provide that, its also largely unknown and untraveled. You wont have a problem finding a campsite.

Listening to the Atlantic ocean, camping for free and having ultimate privacy whats not to love.

Keep In Mind: Heres the catch youve got to have a good 4×4 to get there. Truck campers, vans and small travel trailers are most likely the only ones wholl be able to access it.

Boondocking In South Carolina

When we first wanted to explore just north of Charleston, SC. we found a nice little spot to stay for free. But when we arrived it had been closed off due to a government shut down. As we were looking for our Plan B, a ranger came up and told us about Santee Coastal Reserve. Explaining we can only stay for 4 days but that it was free, beautiful, available and just down the road.
