    Following a recent post entitled 7 places to camp near Charleston, we want to follow that up with some great spots for a camping adventure in the Upstate of South Carolina.

    It takes only a few hours to drive to the Greenville area from the Lowcountry. The scenery, yet totally different, is just as beautiful. There are hills to hike and waterfalls to explore, and we are lucky enough to have it all in the state of South Carolina.

    We provided information about three wonderful places to camp with children near Greenville. All of these have picnic tables, fire rings, showers and bathrooms.

    Paris Mountain State Park

    Only 10 minutes away from Greenvilles downtown, will feel like a world away at Paris Mountain State Park. This park offers a swimming hole, hiking, mountain biking and a playground. There are 39 paved campsites, 13 of which offer tent pads. They even offer five primitive trailside camp sites as well. The park lakes include: Lake Placid, Mountain Lake, Buckhorn Lake and North Lake. There is plenty of hiking opportunities with 15 miles worth of trails.

    Devils Fork State Park Salem Sc

    Tent and RV campers alike can find refuge at Devils Fork State Park. Nestled in the mountains on the shores of Lake Jocassee, expect to get the best of both land and water views. Lace up your hiking boots and trek through two scenic trails, scout for waterfalls, or return to the lake for a day of trout or bass fishing.

    Camping at Cheraw State Park is one of the best outdoor experiences in South Carolina. There are 17 gravel-packed campsites situated on the shore of Lake Juniper, each of which have individual water and electrical hookups the site can also accommodate recreational vehicles up to 40 feet. Camping reservations at Cheraw must be made for a minimum of two nights, and site amenities include hot showers, restrooms, and waterfront views. Activities at the park vary, and visitors can go fishing, boating, canoeing, kayaking, pedal boating, swimming, birdwatching, biking, and hiking on the 4.5-mile Turkey Oak Trail loop.

    A part of the Francis Marion National Forest in South Carolina, the Buck Hall Reception Area is a premier location to spend the day relaxing surrounded by natural beauty. The site is located right along the Intercoastal Waterway and has various tidal creeks, beaches, and marshland to explore. Fishing and shrimp baiting are extremely popular in the area, and anglers can expect to catch a huge variety of fish, from bass and flounder to shrimp and clams.     One of the most coveted parks in South Carolina, Calhoun Falls State Park is fitted with several amenities and surrounded by stunning natural beauty. There are 86 standard campsites offering forested shoreline views of the lake as well as spacious RV sites and walk-in tent sites.     Little Pee Dee State Park

    With 50 campsites for both tents and RVs, Little Pee Dee State Park is one of the calmest and most relaxing camping sites in South Carolina. The campgrounds can be found on the edge of 54-acre Lake Norton, which is perfect for catfish or bass fishing. Many of the campsites have both water and electric hookups and are also convenient to hot showers and restroom facilities. Standard sites rent for anywhere between $9 and $20, and reservations must be made for a minimum of two nights. Popular activities at the park include fishing from the banks or by renting a canoe or kayak, exploring the mysterious sand rim, and hiking the Beaver Pond Nature Trail.

    Lake James State Park

    Lake James is nestled in a valley at the base of Linville Gorge, a stunning part of the Appalachian Mountains. Lake James State Park is less than an hours drive from Asheville and holds all the adventure you need on your natural getaway. The landscape is made up of dense forest and wildflower-covered rolling hills, all surrounding 150 miles of shoreline around Lake James. Those who do not want traditional tent campsites can choose to rent out one of the grounds camping cabins or deluxe cabins instead.
