What Is The Average Price For Rv Camping

Saving Strategies That Work

RV LIVING COSTS: How much does it REALLY cost to full time RV?

Here are some effective methods you can use to reduce what you pay to camp.

  • Use a good campground guide.
  • Negotiate site prices with facility owners.
  • Join a good discount camping club.
  • Buy and Use National Park Passes.
  • Stay in casino RV parks.
  • Camp in fairground facilities where permitted.
  • Stay at full-hookup parks that charge little or nothing.
  • Visit friends’ homes.
  • Avoid big cities and popular events.
  • Travel in the off season.
  • Research special deals.
  • Camp in one park for long periods of time.
  • While you may not want to use all of these techniques , even using just one or two of them will still save you plenty. Although there will be times when you cannot avoid paying full price for a campsite, you can use these methods to cost average what you pay to offset the higher fees.

For example, if you must pay $40 for one night, but spend the next three nights camping for free, your 4-day average is $10 per night!

How Can I Make Camping Cheaper

Depending on where youre camping, parking your RV at a campsite can be incredibly expensive. If youre full-time RVing, you can easily find yourself spending about $900 a month on campsites. However, there are some cheaper options available that we think you should consider.

Across the country, there are thousands of campsites on BLM and USFS lands. These public-use campsites can be very easy to get to, and some of them allow you to stay upwards of 14 days at no cost. Sites that do require you to purchase a permit are still very cost-effective options to consider.

Many RVers join RVing programs like Harvest Host, Boondockers Welcome, or Thousand Trails to save money on camping. Harvest Host and Boondockers Welcome are great for overnight or shorter stays. However, depending on your Thousand Trails membership, you can camp for weeks at a time with little to no cost after your membership and annual maintenance fees.

So, If youre frustrated with camping costs, there are cheaper options. It may require you to think outside the box or purchase additional supplies to make it more comfortable, but its possible. You may discover that some free camping options are much more enjoyable than camping in a crowded campground.

If you want to take your chances with owning an RV park, the income should be among your top considerations. Is it profitable? Is investing in one a good idea? According to statistics, 56% of North Americans had plans to increase camping trips in 2018 alone. This percentage has grown from 46% in 2016, which tells you a lot about what the majority of the population has an interest in.

Is Owning an RV Park Profitable? Yes, owning an RV park can be a nice way to make more money, and if done well, your profit can reach thousands of dollars. As an RV park manager, you can make from 50,000 to 90,000 dollars per year. The park itself can be worth hundreds of thousands of dollars if it becomes a success.

With this knowledge in mind, you can enter the world of RV parks with a degree of confidence that a lot of people would use your campsite.

Of course, the amount of money you can make from owning an RV park ranges according to many factors. These include:

Why You Should Never Buy An Rv

Because RVs are motor vehicles, they are subject to the same depreciation as automobiles. So the odds of your being upside-down on your loan are pretty high. Also, selling your home or borrowing against its equity will mean you have less money to pass on to your children. Stopping for the night is expensive too.

The Average Rv Site Cost For Luxury Campgrounds

First, lets take a look at the cream of the crop. Luxury RV parks are typically on par with resorts. They offer amenities that you would expect at an all-inclusive. Were talking about pools, hot tubs, pickleball courts, campsites with patios, and fire pits. While each luxury RV campground will offer a different combination of fancy amenities, you should be able to tell as soon as you pull up to the campground whether its luxury or not.

Theres a huge range as far as the price of luxury RV campgrounds. One factor affecting the pricing will be the parks location. If youre crashing at a beachside site in California, itll likely cost more than one in a small town in the middle of nowhere. That doesnt mean the amenities will be any less impressive!

The average luxury RV campground cost is between $60 and $100per night.

There are of course outlier options as well. For example, in Key Largo, a popular, expensive tourist destination, youll find the Keys Palms RV Resort right on the Florida Bay. They offer a heated pool and spa, private marina, clubhouse, gym, and patios at each campsite. The cost for a campsite is $125 per night or $700 per week in the summer. During the winter, those prices go up to $150 and $900 respectively.

Camping Fees On The Rise Why Are Campgrounds Rates So Expensive

What is happening to make camping so expensive these days? Camping used to be cheap fun especially with RVs! Gone are the days of $10-15 per night campsite fees. Even before the global pandemic, we noticed the sudden uptick in escalating camping fees. But at what cost? Why has simple camping become pretty much a rich mans game?

Up until the last few years, taking the family camping was a great way to enjoy the outdoors together for just a few bucks. Also, camping was a relatively cheap way to take the family on a mini weekend getaway even with the motorhome or camper. Oh, but thats so not the case anymore!

Coupled with rising costs of food, fuel and propane, campers are easily shucking out over $150-$200 for a simple campsite for a 3-night weekend. The cause for concern now is, can average people even afford to go camping or to an RV park?

People often think RV life is cheap, but there are many hidden costs youll have to account for. However, lets do some basic math. According to Statistica, the average hotel cost per night is about $90. And as previously mentioned, the average RV cost is $45. So on the surface, its cheaper, but lets look a little closer.

In order to go RVing, you need an RV. And the cheapest new RV you can get is around $90,000 MSRP, and the cheapest Class B camper van is around $70,000. So lets say you buy the cheap camper van. Thats an extra $191 a night, because, without the camper van, you cant stay at the campsite.

Provided, there are places you can stay for free, and you could also invest in a cheaper RV. Though, in order to match the yearly price of staying at the average hotel, you could only buy an RV worth $16,000. And again, this doesnt include gas, hookups, and food. This is just rough paper napkin math.

But youd be making unforgettable memories, especially if you go RVing with friends. So, if youre considering buying an RV, or already have one, plan your trip using these average RV campground costs. After all, there are plenty of places across the country for you to explore that wont break the bank.

Why Are Rv Parks So Expensive

RVing stopped being something only retired couples do. Its become a favorite of the young and old, couples and families, working and retired. Even though you save money on hotel bookings and restaurants, RVs still have their fair share of expenses.

Recently, the prices of RV parks have shot up. This has caused many RV adventurers to ask:

Why are RV parks so expensive? The reason for the steadfast increase in RV campsite fees is because more and more people are buying or renting RVs. With this increase in the number of RVs, there has to be a rise in campground costs. These costs include employees, security, water, electricity, and the sewer dump tank. Plus, theres the maintenance and continual upkeep of the grounds themselves.

Is It Better To Buy An Rv New Or Used

Always consider ROI /deal before purchasing a new or used RV. Buying a new RV is not expensive if you considering it for the long term. However, if you see a used RV in the best condition and less used then you must consider it, as you will be able to save some money on it. Not just that, various manufacturers year and festival offers/sale offers.

We saved what is arguably the most important tip for last.

You cannot buy a new or used RV without a budget. You just cant. Youll end up overspending, possibly by thousands or tens of thousands of dollars.

Then research manufacturers and select a handful of vehicles that interest you. Write down all the prices and average them.

Look up how much the same vehicle costs new. Again, write down all the prices and average them.

Based on how much money you can afford to spend on an RV or camper, you can now decide if your vehicle will be new or used.

Remember to include miscellaneous fees with your budgeting such as taxes, shipping, transport, and more.

    Travel In The Shoulder Season

Again, campgrounds are businesses and increase prices during peak times. RVers book the sites anyway. A $10 or $15 increase per night can make your weekend RV camping trip $20 or $30 more costly. However, the opposite is true during off-peak times.

If you have the flexibility to travel during the shoulder season, you can save a considerable amount of money. Its a simple supply and demand situation because theres limited demand for campsites, the prices fall. RVers with flexible schedules are the ones who benefit the most during these seasons.
