Morro Bay State Park Campground
Located in eucalyptus groves right on the edge of Morro Bay is the popular Morro Bay State Park Campground. It is right across the street from the marina and next to the beautiful 18-hole public Morro Bay Golf Course.
The location of this campground makes it the perfect spot to explore all Morro Bay State Park has to offer. It is just a short drive into town and to the iconic Morro Rock.
There are tons of walking trails around the park including the 2.5-mile moderate Black Hill Trail that starts right from the campground. A walk on this trail will reward you with some beautiful ocean views, stunning wildflowers and it is the perfect spot to watch the sunset.
Make sure you also check out the bird estuary right across the street and the nearby Museum of Natural History.
If you are looking for a great restaurant, then you should try The Bayside Cafe. It is only a short walk from the campground and offers beautiful waterfront dining.
Keep in mind that this campground does get busy, so you will want to book your reservations in advance. It is also important to know that the sites are fairly close together and you should dress warm as this area on the coast can get cold.
The Morro Bay State Campground is a great place to explore the ocean, see birds and wildlife, and is one of the best RV campgrounds in Northern California.

Trout Fishing At Lake Almanor
Lake Almanor is located in Plumas County. This is an enormous reservoir covering 24,000 acres and 55 miles of shoreline. It is an attractive trout fishing spot for anglers that want to be in less crowded places. In the spring season, the Western part has the biggest accumulation of trout. While in summer, trout move on the Eastern.
If you want to get the best trout fishing place, look at the most right time of the year. Even if the lake is open all year round, there is a limit to what you intend to catch. For instance, you are only allowed five trout and salmon a day and bass with a minimum of 12 inches. Fall might be the best season. Because you can avoid the crowd, plus the trout tend to become hungrily aggressive.
As for where you can fish in Lake Almanor, anglers would prefer any side around the Big Springs Cove. Another spot you should try is nearby the Forest Service boat ramp on the West shore, close to the pier. The Hamilton Branch, the powerhouse, the wharf at Prattville, and other rivers or streams are also good places for lake fishing.

Mt Lassen Shingletown Koa Holiday
Just a short drive from Lassen National Park, tucked in the pines, oaks and cedars of the forest you will find Mt. Lassen Shingletown KOA Holiday.
This campground is open year round, and is one of the best RV campgrounds in Northern California for families.
They have back-in and full hookup pull-through sites for RVs up to 65 in length. There are also tent camping sites and full cabin rentals available.
The campground sits at 3900-ft elevation, so the area does get snow in the winter, and has cooler mountain temperatures in the summer.
You will have plenty to do around this beautiful campground. There is a heated pool, playground, dog park, bike rentals, and many other fun activities.
The kids will love the fun events they offer! Every Friday they have movies on the lawn. Saturdays you can enjoy ice cream at the weekly ice cream social, and Sundays that even have a pancake breakfast.
When you are not relaxing at your campsite, you can spend the day exploring the beautiful Lassen Volcanic National Park. In only a 15-minute drive you can be at this park which has scenic hiking trails, alpine meadows, clear mountain lakes, and hydrothermal areas in the park with bubbling pools and mudpots.

Camp Layman: A Vacation Destination For More Than A Century
A man named Frank Layman had a vision soon after he found a forested site in the Sierras along the Middle Fork of the Feather River in 1912. In a few short years, he vision would become Camp Layman.
Layman was working for the railroad as a surveyor when he first eyed the picturesque site. At that time, the railroad was buying up mining rights in the Sierras gold country so the rails could be laid with few disputes.
Frank’s original resort was comprised of tent cabins. He constructed a narrow suspension footbridge across the river so his guests could walk from the train tracks to the camp. He soon began replacing the tent cabins with cabins constructed of wood. The oldest existing cabin on the property is Trout cabin. The largest cabin, Pine, was originally a store and chuckhouse. Over the years the Pine cabin has also been a restaurant, and later a bakery. Between 1922 and 1935, Frank added 10 cabins to his resort. Fir and Feather cabins, which feature large screened-in sleeping porches, were built in the early 1940s. Two of the smaller cabins were connected to form what is now Eagle’s Nest cabin. Today, there are 13 cabins at Camp Layman.
About half of the guests who stay at Camp Layman have made the camp an annual vacation destination. Some of the families have been vacationing here for generations. Many guests choose to stay at least a week during our busy summer season.

Got kayak or canoe? Looking for a great place to paddle this summer in Northern California? Well, I have a great line up for you. These are 6 of my personal favorites in random order. They all offer other great things, in addition to paddling and all but one of them are Dog Friendly.
Gold Lake Dog Friendly
Camping/day use fees/other accommodations Jeff & I have been camping and paddling here for many years. You can camp at either end of the lake, but we prefer to camp at the Gold Lake 4×4 Campground at the back end of the lake, which requires a high clearance 4-wheel drive vehicle to get there. Another alternative is to paddle into camp. Some of our friends choose this method of getting there. Camping is free, has tables and fire rings in most of the sites and pit toilets nearby. Campsites are on a first come, first served basis. If you dont have a high clearance 4-wheel drive vehicle, there is Gold Lake Campground near the entrance to Gold Lake. Camping fee is $10.00 per night. There is no fee for day use. NOTE: Make sure you have a valid fire permit. If camping is not your thing, there are lots of other really cool places to stay. Cisco Grove Campgrounds Soda Springs
This beautiful natural site offers you the view and experience of the South Yuba River. Once you are here you will be surrounded by hundreds of acres of forests where you can camp. There is a lot that you can do at this campsite starting from playing volleyball and basketball to hiking and bicycling. If you visit Cisco Grove Campgrounds in winters, you can even go sledding and skiing.

A Couple Of San Diego Regional Parks
Just before you get to Julian on hwy 79 youll find Pine Hills Rd. which will take you to William Heise County Park where youll find a wonderful, rustic setting. Here there are lots of campsites coupled with approximately 10 sites supplying partial hookups.
Many of the campsites here also are spread out nicely giving you ample space from your potential neighbors. Again this campground is only 10 to 15 minutes from Julian which makes it a pretty great place to do some camping. Another bonus is that all the rangers at this location are pretty personable and helpful.
Camping Dos Picos
When things are a little cooler during the spring, fall and early winter, youll find us at a San Diego Regional Park named Dos Picos.
It is located on hwy 67 just a few miles southwest of Ramona in San Diego County. There is a ton of great things about Dos Picos ranging from the awesome park rangers there to its very location. Dos Picos is only an hour or so from San Diego. Its also only 30 to 40 minutes from Julian. The city of Ramona is 5 minutes away for anything and everything that you might need pizza, bagels, lattes or maybe a great steak!
If ya like Bass, Crappie and Blue Gill, there is a sweet little pond here that will challenge you and feed your fever for fishing. Locals will tell you about a mystic Bass that will taunt and tease you until you are ready to cry!
Another Really Great Option
Another very important thing to note here is that there is a company, I believe that it is named Sierra Septic Tank Service that operates a septic pumping service that circulates through most of the campgrounds around the Twin Lakes/Bridgeport area. Twice a week and for a fee they will pump out your grey water and black water holding tanks. This allows you to be a little more comfortable a little bit longer.

Upper Sacramento River A Growing Success
The Upper Sacramento River is a unique fishery with a good amount of fish. A train dumped pesticides into the river in the early 1990s, but the water has recovered since. It follows Interstate 5 near Dunsmuir. There is a wide-variety of access points all the way to the upper portion near the Box Canyon to CantAra. At times, you may find that the water clarity can be an issue.
The section between Ney Springs and Densmuir is a great spot to fish due to the lack of pressure. The lower you get, the more access points become available and more pressure is put on the fish. Access includes Shotgun Creek, Pollard Flat and Gibson. Youll be able to fish pocket water, pools and riffles. Blue-Winged Olives are the most consistent hatch and Green Drakes are also a nice option. The Pale Morning Dun is another common fly youll find on the river along with the Spotted Sedge. You wont need anything more than a 5-weight to handle the fish.
Ice Fishing Inlake Davis
Lake Davis is in the middle of a forest. Its surrounded by conifers. The surface is elevated at approximately 5777 feet. The Good news is its not popular for ice fishing. So, if you are searching for a quiet place for fishing, Lake Davis is the right place for you. What you should know about this lake for ice-fishing-
- The fish limit for each day is 3. You can only take one fish home that is bigger than twenty-four inches. Fishes smaller than 15 inches are not allowed to be kept.
- Lake Davis is known for its excellent fishes, such as Rainbow Trout, Brown Trout, Largemouth Bass, and Brown Bullhead. Some less known species are Black crappie, Brown bullhead, Kokanee, Largemouth bass, Pumpkinseed Sunfish, Rainbow trout, Signal crayfish, and Yellow perch.
- It is not an ideal place for ice fishing for you if you are intolerant of cold. As cold frost makes sure, this lake thaws faster than other lakes. Also, early morning fishing is nearly impossible as the cold bite will freeze your body.
- Salmon eggs and nightcrawlers are the best bait for this lake. You can use artificial salmon eggs called balls ofire.
