Towering sand dunes surround more than three miles of pristine white-sand beach and encompass two freshwater lakes at this sprawling 1,600-acre state park on a barrier island west of Panama City Beach.

Although boats are not permitted in the dune lakes, you can fish from shore for bass, bream, panfish and catfish. A tram service will carry you between the beach and the campground, which has a swimming pool and shuffleboard courts.

Theres even a campground store and a cable TV connection at each site!

Each of the 156 campsites has water, 30 and 50-amp electric, cable and sewer hookups. Restrooms with showers have both heat and AC, and laundry facilities are available to campers. Theres also a tent area with 22 sites on elevated pads with a fire ring, water and electric. The park also has 30 bungalows and cabins. Pets are welcome, as are big rigs up to 45 feet in length.

Glamping at Topsail Hill: The company that has the camp store and kayak concession at Topsail Hill also operates Fancy Camps where, for $130 a night, you can stay in a fully outfitted tent with a queen bed, linens, rugs, lamps and even portable air conditioners or heaters.

Best Florida Beach Campgrounds On The Gulf

  • Pensacola Beach RV Resort. This is a full-hookup campsite and resort, with 72 spacious spots available. Each site has a level concrete for your RV and a grassy area for your fur babies. Theres even a tiki bar on the beach, with lounge chairs! Enjoy picnic tables, flush toilets, showers, laundry, a pool, and a playground. Even WiFi! Rates vary from $70-$130 per night.
  • Navarre Beach Campground. Theres a nice little beach at the end of this campground, with pier access if you bring a boat. Theres a local seafood market about a mile away, and a nearby Turtle Conservation Center thats fun for the entire family.     Believe it or not, the emerald coast has quite a few places to rent RVs and plenty of campgrounds to take them. Some camping resorts are on the beach while others are away. Essentially, its whatever you would prefer. Geronimo RV park is a visitor favorite in Destin. Destin RV Resort and Henderson Beach State Park is another option in the Destin area that’s loved by many. If you venture out to Navarre, you will have a lot more RV options.

    Gulf Islands National Seashore Fort Pickens Campground

    This spectacular 200-site campground is on the west end of Santa Rosa island is within the protected Gulf Islands National Seashore. The campground is named after a historic fort found on the islands westernmost point, built in the early 1800s to protect Pensacola Bay. It was one of four forts that did not fall into Confederate hands during the Civil War. You have to hike some to see it, but history buffs will love it. All 200 Fort Pickens campsites have water, electricity, grills/fire rings, and picnic tables. The sites range in length from 16 ft for tent sites to 50 ft for larger RVs. Restrooms and dump stations are nearby.

    Key Largo Kampground And Marina

    Key Largo is the Sunshine States Dive Capital of the World and a great place for spring break! In the first and northernmost of the Florida Keys, you wont find a better escape. Key Largo is a world away and has some of the best Florida Keys camping around.

    At the Key Largo Kampground and Marina, youll find 40 acres of tropical flowers and foliage along the Atlantic Ocean. The campsites come in a variety of options with offerings for tents and RVs. You can opt to have a waterfront view or not, and you can even choose an RV site with a boat slip!

    Tent sites can fit two tents on pea gravel with partial shade. You can easily hang hammocks on most sites! Some offer electric hookups, but all of the sites have grills. Tent sites range from $60-80 per day depending on if you want electric and water hookups.

    RV sites feature full 30/50 hookups in a variety of pull-through and back in options. All RV sites include picnic tables and cable TV connections, with a box available to rent. You can even choose a site with a boat slip! RV sites run $100 a night, $130 a night for a site with a boat slip.

    At the marina, you can bring any boat, cycle, kayak, or canoes that fit on your rented site. You can even go snorkeling and scuba diving and John Pennekamp State Park! Make sure to visit the nearby Sombrero Beach Park from April through October to see Loggerhead sea turtles nesting!

    St George Island State Park

    Just offshore from Apalachicola, youll find St. George Island, home to a magnificent state park. If nine miles of white-sand beaches sounds tempting to you, consider reserving one of its 60 campsites. The campsites, located between the Bay and Gulf, are about a half-mile from the beach. Theyre nestled under a canopy of pines, and offer electric, water and a central dump station. The park also offers primitive camping and a group camp area. The primitive camp is located at the end of a two-and-a-half mile trail, and is also accessible by canoe or kayak. There are no facilities or water at the primitive camp, while the group camp is designed for organized groups and offers a restroom and cold showers. Fishing and shelling are exceptional at the park. With a special permit and an additional fee, fishermen can access East Pass. Common catches from the beach or bay include redfish, mackerel, trout, whiting, flounder and more.

A nature trail winds through the rolling dunes. Surf fishing is popular, and the catch includes pompano, red fish, flounder, catfish, whiting and the occasional cobia. The campground has 60 sites with a mix of back-in and pull-through sites. All sites have water and electric , picnic tables, ground grills and clothesline posts. Restrooms with showers have heating and AC, and coin-operated washers and dryers are available. Pets are welcome, and maximum RV length is 45 feet.

    Camp Gulf Holiday Travel Park Destin

    This private campground is a full-service RV resort with 13 RV sites right on the beach. You dont get much closer to the Gulf than this. This is a full-service resort with two solar-heated swimming pools, a hot tub, laundry, Wi-Fi and cable TV. Overall, Camp Gulf has more than 200 RV sites with full hookups, including 30/50-amp electric 21 sites are pull-through. There are 19 cabins in the interior of the park and one on the beach. Interior campsites are grassy with some shade, while shade is sparse sites closer to the beach. This campground is more expensive than public campgrounds on this list, but Camp Gulf is a solid alternative for those willing to pay for the comforts of a full-service RV resort with nearby restaurant and shopping.

    Topsail Hill Preserve State Park

    Topsail Hill Preserve State Park is a campground in Santa Rosa Beach, FL that is renowned for its massive, sail-like dunes that sprawl across the beach. It is also host to many salt-water dune lakes and a variety of wildlife and vegetation.

    The park is host to a plethora of facilities to take advantage of:

    Topsail is slightly more difficult to enjoy the beach at. It is 1 mile from the campgrounds to the beach, but trams are provided to take you there, starting at 9 am. You can most definitely ride your bike or walk, too!

    There are 32 cabins on site, with half accommodating 4 people and the other half accommodating 6 people. Wi-fi is provided , also. You can book a cabin up to 11 months in advance. This is a great idea, because booking gets harder and harder the closer to summer you get.

    RV campsites are available and charge $42 a night. They include water, electricity, sewage, and cable connection.

    Thanks to the park, you can camp at the most famous surfing spot in Florida, located right off A1A. Even if you’re not a surfer, it’s fun to watch them riding some of the best waves in the state. The camping area isn’t right on the beach, but it’s close enough. The park spans both sides of Sebastian Inlet. The jetty, popular with fishermen and surfers, is on the north side of the inlet the camping area is on the south side.     How Much Do Campgrounds In Florida Cost

    Depending on the park or campgrounds, the price for campsites may vary. Expect anything from $16 to $42 a night for tent camping. If youre looking for a cabin in a State Park, you can expect $30 to $160 a night, depending on the park.

    While prices vary, all visitors will pay a non-refundable $6.70 reservation fee when making a reservation for camping in Florida parks. The fee will be collected at the time of the reservation.

    It is also important to notes that Monroe County implements a County surcharge of $2.50 per night when staying on a campsite or in a cabin in a State Park.

    If youre in an RV, things get a little pricier. However, RV parks, in general, cost less than hotels in the state of Florida! On average, most State Parks and RV sites offer rates of $50 per night. For a week, the average rate becomes $220, and for a month for serious campers, only $515.
