This is one of my favorite Texas state parks, probably because it is close to NW San Antonio where I used to live. However, it also has nice trails, campgrounds and picnic area by the river. We had our daughters first birthday celebration party in this parks picnic area. The river is shallow and has a lazy flow. The Guadalupe River is a popular place for weekend inner tubers and partiers camping out in tents. RVers can avoid busy tent campgrounds by heading to 2nd Crossing Camp, a 32-site riverfront campground for RVs only. Swim and relax by the river at Second Crossing’s private swimming beach, which is located in a slow moving, shallow area of the river. Or, enjoy your own fishing spot along their private river frontage. And if you forgot any food or gear, you can probably get it at the park’s General Store, which has items ranging from ice to beer to fishing tackle is available. Laundry facilities, restrooms and an RV dump station are open for guests. This park is open between March and September.

Hide out on the Guadalupe River or party with a group of friends at at O’Henry’s Hideaway. But make reservations early, because this year-round RV and tent camping resort fills up fast during summer weekends. Leave your river gear at home, since O’Henry’s has everything needed for a river excursion, including rafts, inner tubes and life jackets. The park has room for 65 RVs and each site has full hookups. The park store also has picnic supplies, fishing gear and camping sundries.

We would like to camp on River Road this summer in our new camper. We are looking for a family friendly RV site w/hookups. And with a nice stretch of river that is not too deep or fast because our youngest is 4 years old and not a very good swimmer. Any advice or ideas would be appreciated.

I know of 2 really great campsite companies- Lazy L& L and Mountain Breeze. Lazy L& L is the home of the “Devil’s Playground” rapids, but they do have some less active areas also. Mountain Breeze is all pretty tame. Both companies are recommended, however, Mountain Breeze has a grill/restaurant with some of the best burger’s I have ever had.

Both places have good restroom/shower facilities.

Mountain Breeze is a great place to stay. The staff is friendly and it’s clean. I will never stay at Lazy L& L again. I would never recommend this place to anyone. The staff is rude and if you have any additional people come to your site with an extra car, it’s about $60 bucks. Way too expensive! I didn’t like the way the sites were set up and you have people right next to you. We had gone this past weekend and for months they advertised on their website about some bands being there. Well, there were bands but they failed to mention that it was $30 bucks a person. Anyways, your welcome to check it out for yourself, but we’ll never stay there again.
