Seated at the heart of the Chesapeake Bay, Breezy Point Beach & Campground is one of Calvert Countys favorite attractions. The sandy shores and gentle surf offer visitors near and far the ultimate Maryland experience. Spend a day at Breezy Points pristine beach soaking up the sun, while taking in the gorgeous views. Or, enjoy a serene picnic with loved ones. For fishing and crabbing enthusiasts, there is a 200-foot fishing pier. And for the most adventurous visitors, hunt for sharks teeth and fossils on the waters edge.

Breezy Point is located about one hour from Washington DC, making it the ideal location to turn city living into beach bum fun for the day. Breezy Point is located in Chesapeake Beach, Maryland, a town home to fresh, local seafood, public boat ramps, charter fishing and much more.

Breezy Point Beach & Campground was acquired by the Calvert County Board of County Commissioners in January 1995 and is operated by the Calvert County Department of Parks & Recreation. County ownership guarantees that future generations will always have a place to enjoy the riches of the beautiful Chesapeake Bay.

From I-495 take Exit 11A, Route 4 South/East. Take MD Route 260, Chesapeake Beach Road approximately nine miles to Chesapeake Beach. Turn right on MD 261, proceed five miles and turn left at green road sign onto Breezy Point Road. Continue one mile to Breezy Point Beach and Campground.

Cunningham Falls State Park

Nestled in the Catoctin Mountains, this gem of a state park offers hiking, swimming, and beautiful waterfalls in a serene forest setting. Its trails range from half a mile to over seven miles, from flat and easy to rocky, steep, and challenging. The falls are easily accessible by a half-mile trail or day-access parking. Beautiful Hunting Creek Lake has a sandy swimming beach and boat rentals available in the summer. When the weather cools, Cunningham Falls is a favorite destination for leaf peeping.

There are two separate areas in the park. Houck Area has more than 100 campsites, some with electric hookups. Its closest to the falls and the lake. Manor Area is a more intimate campground with around 30 sites, a few with electricity available. Its located near educational sites, including an aviary with birds of prey and reptiles, and the Catoctin Iron Furnace, which is on the National Register of Historic Places. Neither campground has any sites that fit RVs over 30 feet.

Assateague State Park Maryland

Enjoy the fun in the Sun! Assateague State Park, Maryland’s only ocean park is located on Assateague Island, a barrier island bordered on the east by the Atlantic Ocean and on the west by Sinepuxent Bay. Two miles of ocean beaches make this park popular for camping, swimming, beachcombing, sunbathing, surfing and fishing. The island’s bay side offers canoeing and kayaking in secluded coves and marsh areas with unbelievable wildlife viewing opportunities. The Assateague wild ponies are among the favorite inhabitants of the island, as well as, sika deer.

  • It is illegal to bring untreated firewood* into New York State.
  • It is illegal to transport untreated firewood more than 50 miles from its source or origin.
  • When transporting firewood, you must carry one of the following: 1) proof of source , 2) proof of origin , or 3) proof of or treatment . Failure to do so may result in you being ticketed and subject to a fine.
  • Please be aware of state and federal quarantines that further restrict the movement of firewood:Spotted lanternfly quarantine

NOTE: It is always best to use heat treated firewood or obtain local firewood at or near your destination. For more information on the availability of firewood please contact the park/campground directly.

For more information about firewood regulations visit or call toll free 1-866-640-0652. The interactive Firewood Source Map shows a 50-mile distance from which untreated firewood may be moved to NYS Parks and campgrounds. Additional firewood source maps are available at each campground’s website.

*To be considered treated, firewood must be heat-treated to a minimum core temperature of 71 degrees Celsius for 75 minutes, and must have a label that says “New York Approved Heat-Treated Firewood/Pest Free” along with the producer’s name and legal address. Firewood that meets these standards and is labeled as such can be moved into NY and around the state without restriction.

Elk Neck State Park Overview

Elk Neck State Park campground has over 250 campsites , 15 available cabins . The campground is open April 1 Nov 30, and the campsites can accommodate tents, trailers and RVs.

Each campsite also has a table, fire ring, grate and lantern post. The campground has drinking water, flush toilets and showers. Check in time is 3pm and check out is 1pm. Generators are allowed 7am to 10pm. There is also a youth group camping area, a camp store and snack bar and playgrounds. The nature center offers fun weekend activities for families during the summer season.

Our favorite campsites at Elk Neck State Park are: Choptank Loop 99, Elk Loop 132, 137, 138, 139, 140, Miles Loop 165, 167, 169, 171, 173, Wye Loop 47, 51, 60 and Northeast Loop 13, 22.

Elk Neck State Park Area Recreation

Elk Neck State Park has over 2,188 acres of marshlands, wooded areas, white clay cliffs and sandy shores. Theres plenty of fun to be had including boating, fishing, canoeing, kayaking, fishing, swimming, horseback riding, OHVing, hiking, biking, hunting, exploring historic sites, picnicking, wildlife viewing, winter sports and more. The Turkey Point Lighthouse trail is about 2.5 miles from the campground and is worth the trip! The trail to the lighthouse is about 1/2 mile. There is also a Junior Ranger program for the kids!

You may also want to check out Susquehana State Park. It has 69 campsites and is about 41 miles away.

Customers Will Soon Be Able To Make Reservations For Cabins Picnic Shelters And Campsites At Maryland Parks Through New System Online

From The Maryland Park Service’s: The reservation system is transitioning to a new website parkreservations.maryland.gov starting at 9 a.m. April 3, 2017.

To allow for a smooth transition, the online reservation system will be unavailable from March 28 to April 2. During that time, existing park reservations will be transferred to the new system.

Walk-in reservations will continue to be accepted during the transition period.

Point Lookout State Park Maryland

Lighthouse enthusiasts, avid anglers, paddlers and history buffs are just a few of the folks who frequent Point Lookout State Park. Located in southern St. Mary’s County, where the Potomac River meets the Chesapeake Bay, this park was once the site of a Civil War prison for Confederate soldiers.
