Situated in the northwest of the state, it sits on the Pacific Ocean and is a popular vacation spot for those who like to indulge in water-based fun. And thereâs plenty of history to check out, including World War II bunkers and enjoy knowing youâre in a town that was once visited by the Lewis and Clark expedition who made salt in what would become Seaside to preserve their meats. And if you love the outdoor beauty of the Pacific Northwest, then you might enjoy camping in Seaside rather than staying in a hotel. Weâve compiled a list of campsites in Seaside, Oregon. Oregon Coast Casino Camping

Tent camping by the lake

Casino camping is another option for free camping on the Oregon Coast. Here are three options to look into:

  • Lucky 7 Casino Just a few minutes south of the Oregon border, the Lucky 7 Casino in Smith River, California offers free parking lot camping just off Highway 101.
  • Spirit Mountain Casino Located in Grande Ronde, Spirit Mountain Casino is a great place for free RV boondocking just 30 minutes from Lincoln City.
  • Three Rivers Casino Perhaps the best place for casino camping on the Oregon Coast, Three Rivers Casino in Florence welcomes RV boondockers to camp for up to four nights for free.

Im not very well-versed with casino camping on the Oregon Coast. Next time I make the drive, I plan to look more closely into this type of free camping and will update this post accordingly.

Sleeping Bags and Pads: With sleeping bags and pads, making a bed at the campground is easy. First, you need to have some type of padding to cushion you from the hard ground. There are inflatable pads and various closed-cell pads that work quite well. On top of the pad, you’ll place your sleeping bag.

Camp Cooking Supplies: Outdoor cooking is enjoyed by many, whether at the campground or in your own backyard. So, if you’re a backyard chef, you already have lots of recipes to try at the campground. If not, you can always get by with a cooler of drinks, sandwiches, and snacks. Most public campgrounds provide a grill and picnic table at each campsite. With a bag of charcoal and a spatula you’re ready to make steaks, hot dogs, and hamburgers on the grill. Add a propane stove, a skillet, and a few pots, and you’re ready to cook up lots of stove-top meals. Get a Dutch oven, and now you can bake at the campground too. Depending on your cooking skills and equipment, you can make meals at the campground that can rival home cooking.

When Can You Go Camping In Cannon Beach Oregon

The weather on the Oregon Coast stays mild all year, so you can camp on Cannon Beach year round. The best time to go camping near Cannon Beach depends on your travel style and preferences since each season offers something different and unique.

The summertime is one of the most popular times for Cannon Beach camping. During these months, precipitation is low and the weather stays around the high 60s. This time of year can get VERY busy. You must plan in advance, and wed advise avoiding holidays and weekends, but this is a beautiful time of year for camping.

From our experience, September is one of the perfect times to go camping because the weather is still favorable, but the crowds are fewer.

Winter and spring are two of the quieter seasons for Cannon Beach since November through April have the most precipitation and the weather rarely drops below 40-degrees.

With cooler temperatures, winter may seem like a bad time to go camping near Cannon Beach, but youd be surprised. This is actually a nice time to visit this coastal town. With the right clothing, youll be able to experience an abundance of wildlife, fewer crowds, and more intense waves on the shores.

Oregon Coast Dispersed Camping Rules And Regulations

Seaside RV Resort & Campground Thousand Trails

Always make sure to follow the 7 Leave No Trace principles when dispersed camping on the Oregon Coast or anywhere else, for that matter.

Because dispersed camping is more popular than ever before, its vitally important to treat our public lands with the utmost respect so they remain open and available to all.

Most importantly, pack out all of your trash , properly dispose of human waste , respect any closed areas, and dont overstay stay limits.

Double check the dispersed camping rules for the specific area you plan to visit. For example, Tillamook State Forest has different dispersed camping rules than Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest.

Contact the nearest ranger station for the most up-to-date information about current rules as well as current road conditions.

Aside from the military bases, you can also bike a few miles further out to the beautiful Jetty at the mouth of the Columbia river. Here you can climb the viewing platform and watch the waves crash against the rocks or just sit and watch boats travel through the mouth of the river. If you ever visit here in the winter, the waves get MASSIVE and when they hit the rocks, they spray up onto the viewing tower.

Close-by is also the Military Museum and last but not least every camper needs to visit the remains of the Peter Iredale shipwreck on the beach. There is not as much left, but it still makes for great pictures. You can see the original ship wreak photos at the museum.

Close to the main camping area is also Coffenbury Lake. Here you can enjoy a day of relaxing by the water, fishing, or bring a canoe or paddle board and travel out on the lake. Keep in mind, there is a 5 knot speed limit on the lake, so no jetskis or wake boats. The lake is stocked every year with rainbow trout, so there is always something to catch.
