Why its cool: We like to think of this spot as one of Americas best-kept secrets.
The Smoky Mountains are so steep and majestic, they look like a vista straight out of Europe.
This is especially true in the summertime, when the wildflowers speckle the scenic views with splashes of color.
Where to camp: Theres a laundry list of campgrounds available at Sawtooth, but we recommend the Sawtooth National Recreation Area, specifically by Redfish Lake.
When its open: The Sawtooth National Recreation Area is open year-round, with attendance peaking during the summer months.
Plan your camping trip between May and September, and youll enjoy extra-long days, with the sun setting as late as 10 p.m.

Assateague State Park And Assateague Island National Seashore
Where else can you camp on an island among wild horses? Assateague State Park and Assateague Island National Seashore lie between the Atlantic Ocean and Sinepuxent Bay on Assateague Island with miles of sandy beach and campsites for tents, trailers, and RVs. The famous wild horses casually roam the campsites and beach. Theyre fun to take photos of, but be careful to not approach, touch, or feed them.
There is confusion about the 2 beach campgrounds but its really quite simple. Both areas share the Assateague barrier island and are accessed from MD Rte 611, which is about 15 minutes south of MD Rte 50 and super popular Ocean City, Maryland. The State Park is a little more oriented toward families with hot showers and concessions. There are 350 sites are available, each with a fire ring and picnic table. Electric hook-ups are available in the H-Loop and a limited number of sites in J-Loop. You need to book these sites a year in advance of your trip.
Assateague Island National Seashore offers 158 campsites along a gorgeous 20-mile stretch of ocean and along the bay. There are no hookups in the National Seashore Campground. On the National Seashore, you can have a campfire on the beach, and pets are allowed on a leash in the non-lifeguard area. There are no concessions on the National Seashore and it only has only cold showers.
Fishermens Memorial State Park Campground
Fishermens Memorial State Park Campground in Narragansett is not on the ocean but it has water access on Bluff Hill Cove. It has 147 large and shady campsites with full hookups. The campground has bike trails, a playground available for kids, and a variety of activities in the permit office.
The campground is located right down the street from the Block Island Ferry and also very close to the very popular Roger W. Wheeler and Scarborough State Beaches. Every Sunday there is a farmers market and it is excellent. And right down the street, there is a farm that sells local beef. Stop there for some awesome steaks to grill.

Salisbury Beach State Reservation Salisbury Massachusetts
Salisbury Beach State Reservation boasts a huge campground with 484 sites that are perfect for tents and RVs. The beach itself extends 3.8 miles along the Atlantic Ocean, from the Merrimack River to the New Hampshire border.
Campsites have water and electric hookups with views of both the ocean and the Merrimack River. There are a few trees spread out among the sites, but for the most part, you can expect to be in full sun most of the day. While this isnt quite oceanfront camping, it comes very close!
As with other state camping facilities in Massachusetts, out-of-state residents will pay significantly more for a site. The cost is $22 for residents and $70 for out-of-staters.
Glacier Bay National Park Alaska
Why its cool: Glacier Bay National Park is mostly water. The bay itself serves as the passageway to the inner section of the park, which is a glacier.
After spending the night under the stars, try cruising the bay on a tour, charter, private boat, or via kayak tour. There are no marked trails in the park, so backpacking can be pretty strenuous.
Rafting one of the parks two rivers is a great alternative that allows campers to easily tow supplies. However, if youre an inexperienced camper, make sure youre with someone who knows what theyre doing.
Park rangers also lead a variety of tours and talks daily during the summer.
Where to camp: The park has only one campground in Bartlett Cove, which has outhouses, a warming shelter, and safe food storage.
Permits are free but necessary for using the campgrounds and backcountry between May 1 to September 30.
When its open: Year-round, but accessibility and services are very limited in winter. The visitor center is open late May to early September. Updates on the parks conditions appear here.
Cost: There are no entrance or camping fees for private visitors. Reservations are required, however, for boating, camping, rafting, and other visitor services.

Ocean Lakes Family Campground
Ocean Lakes Family Campground in Myrtle Beach is huge. Its the largest campground along the East Coast with over 800 sites and 5 bath houses across 310 oceanfront acres and over a mile of beachfront.
The sites are large, pull-through, and complete with full hookups. Theyre located along paved roads and most have concrete pads.
There is plenty to do at the campground, especially if you have kids. You can go for a refreshing walk on the beach, check out their new water park, play the nearby par 72 Prestwick Golf Course, or grab a bite to eat at one of the many local restaurants. This is a terrific RV beach campground for a family vacation.
Pulpit Rock Pinnacle Loop
How Long: 9 milesFound In: Albany, PennsylvaniaWhich Is: 90 minutes northwest of PhiladelphiaThe Draw: Of the 230 miles of Appalachian Trail running through Pennsylvania, this nine-mile stretch features the two best views Pulpit Rock and Pinnacle Rock.Dont Miss: Your alarm clock. This hike is popular, so if you dont want some random Sasquatch photobombing your summit photo, come early.

Fort Getty Park And Campground Jamestown Rhode Island
While this park is mainly for recreational vehicle campground, Fort Getty also includes a small tenting area. The 41-acre park includes a small, rocky beach, a boat ramp and dock, and some old fortifications that are fun to explore. There are no lifeguards on duty.
The campground includes 83 RV sites and 26 no-frills tent sites. Most of the tent sites do require a walk to the ocean, but the RV sites are pretty much right on the water. A restroom, trash/recycling, and a dump station are available onsite.
This is a great, affordable camping area that is perfect for folks just passing through.

Camp Hatteras Rv Resort
Camp Hatteras RV Resort offers ocean and sound-front sites on North Carolinas Outer Banks. The 200 sites all have concrete pads and full hookups. Some are located on the side of Pamlico Sound and others next to the Atlantic Ocean. Stay on a site near the sound, rather than the ocean. Youll actually get a view of the water and sunsets. The oceanfront sites are closer to the beach, but the view can be obstructed by the dunes.
Among the amenities are pools, a Jacuzzi, mini golf, WaveRunner rentals, and a walkway out to the beach. They also have a fully stocked store on-site and dog park for pet owners. If you have kids and want a more resort-style experience on the beach then this campground is perfect!

Bar Harbor Campground is one of the best New England camping sites that should not be overlooked. Its arguably one of the best places to stay when you want to explore Acadia National Park because Bar Harbor is a top getaway to the area.
Campsites here are mainly just for those with campers or trailers. You can rent a spot with no hookups or ones with electricity or water. Whatever you need, theres a campground for it! Plus, theres a shuttle that will take you around the area while youre staying at the campground.
