Good to Know
Parkway Campgrounds are normally open from May October. Fees are charged on a per night basis, which includes two adults over age 18. Children accompanied by an adult camp free.
Reservations may be made for some sites in advance. As a general rule, demand is higher on weekends and holidays. Some first-come first-serve sites are offered at ALL Parkway campgrounds.

WAYNESBORO Waynesboro is the beginning or end of the Blue Ridge Parkway, giving way to miles and miles of winding roads and camping options.
The parkway extends to 469 miles from Virginia to North Carolina. The Blue Ridge Parkway was the first national rural parkway to be conceived, designed and constructed for a leisure-type driving, according to the Blue Ridge Parkway Foundation.
The topography and vista points along the parkway offer easy public access to spectacular views of central and southern Appalachian rural landscapes and forested mountains, the foundation said. The parkway connects Shenandoah National Park in Virginia with Great Smoky Mountains National Park in North Carolina.
Recreation.gov has six top-rated campgrounds along the Blue Ridge Parkway for visitors to stay.

Camping On The Blue Ridge Parkway
On average, the Parkways nine campgrounds offer a chance to set up a tent or park your RV every 43 miles. The 712 tent sites and 337 RV sites range from lowish elevations , to cool and lofty , to downright way up there .
Camping is one of the great national park adventures and it’s a not-to-be-missed part of a Blue Ridge Parkway vacation. Parkway campgrounds have no electrical hook-ups for RVsbut theyre otherwise comfortable and provide water, restrooms, firewood for sale, and trailer dumping stations. Each site has a fireplace and picnic table. Most campgrounds offer interpretive talks by rangers at campground amphitheaters and a camp store is available at Peaks of Otter, Doughton Park, Crabtree Meadows, and Mount Pisgah. Seven offer picnic areas, four have visitor centers. Each campground has a handicapped accessible site.
All sites are available on a first come, first served basisexcept at Doughton Park, Julian Price, Linville Falls, and Mount Pisgah, where you can reserve a site in advance on the Internet or by phone: 877-444 6777. Reserved sites are $19 versus the $16 usually charged .
Backcountry Camping: There is no backpacking on the Blue Ridge Parkway itselfexcept at two formal backcountry campgrounds and a single hike-in site at Julian Price Park, NC 828-963-5911). The cabin is a 16 x 16 screened room with a front porch for relaxing on. Pond Haven has no electricity or running water but does offer a composting toilet, drinking water, and a single burner propane stove. Glampers enjoy a comfortable double bed with clean sheets perfect for those that dont mind being off-grid for a night or two.

Located near Asheville, North Carolina, Mama Gerties Hideaway Campground is a hidden gem along the Blue Ridge Parkway. This campground features a dump station, full hookups, full-service bathrooms, WiFi, and a variety of other amenities. Just over the border in the rolling green hills of Virginia, youll find the Rocky Knob campground off of the Blue Ridge Parkway. Where We Stayed On The Blue Ridge Parkway
Our locations were mostly based on how far Dan could cycle each day. That put us at about 75-100 miles between stops.
Even if you wont be traveling with a bicyclist, this is a good distance to cover each day.
Remember, youll be going on average less than 35 mph through the Parkway. And youll want to leave plenty of time to stop at overlooks and visitor centers. Many of the stops along the way have exhibits or museums, things that take some time. Youll probably want to take a small hike each day as well, to see something cool.
