Camp Out In Camp Verde

by JessicaM | Sep 11, 2018 | Adventure Awaits, Business Showcase |

What a perfect hub for exploring our beautiful valley and state! As a lifelong camper and former full-time RVer, I understand the importance of a good campsite. My husband and I camped our way up to the Canadian border and back to Arizona. We lived in our travel trailer with our dogs for seven months, camping throughout six states. Although I tried to plan and choose the best destinations, its not always easy to research every option. Camp Verde offers what we often struggled to find while out on the road: opportunities to explore secluded, natural beauty with convenient essentials like restaurants, wineries, and a reasonably priced, fully-stocked grocery store. Not to mention the indigenous cliff dwellings, state parks, and national monuments! Whether you have a tent, RV, or need a roof, hopefully this guide to camping in Camp Verde will help you select your very own ideal spot.

What Our Guests Are Saying

What a nice campground. While the sites are small they are immaculately landscaped and cared for. Lush foliage everywhere, humming birds, coming doves. Seriously this operation is loved by the owners. Guided to site, awesome help backing into site, great front desk, clean facilities, propane serviceI could go on and on.

– Timothy H. Yelp

We are staying here for a month and I love it. Wide spaces, plenty of trees, and very well groomed. Everyone is friendly and there are frequent social gatherings. The facilities are conveniently located and clean. A nice mile long trail winds through the trees and along a creek. Dog friendly. It is 9 miles from Hwy 17 putting it away from noise. The drive to town is easy. Love it!

– Ramona D., Yelp

This is such a beautiful RV park. The sites are level and extremely well maintained. Although close to the road, the traffic was minimal. Lots of trees and shrubery. The owners are friendly and helpful. We would definitely return.

Camping Near Camp Verde

At a glance, Camp Verde looks and feels like a small town overshadowed by some big destinations Phoenix, Sedona, and Flagstaff. It took us two separate occasions to see that camping near Camp Verde is actually like striking gold! On our first encounter with camping near Camp Verde, we came from the direction of Payson. Although we noticed a lot of dispersed camping near Payson, it was still too cold at high elevation. So we ended up finding a spot in Camp Verde for two nights. During our stay we checked out Montezuma Castle then kept north towards Cottonwood and Sedona. Luckily, the way things worked out we were granted a second chance to dig a little deeper and see that camping near Camp Verde is actually pretty awesome. If you dont already know about this gorgeous area, youll soon see what we mean.

What People Are Saying About Dead Horse Ranch State Park

Enjoyed our stay at Dead Horse Ranch State Park. Lots to see and do in this area of AZ. There are lots of trails in the park. There are three lagoons with two that allow fishing. There are horse trails and horse coming in designated areas. The little store offers drinks, ice cream, and other items. There is fishing also in the Verde River that runs parallel to the park. It looked to be a nice river for kayaking also. Maury, Google Review

Things To Do While Youre Here

We rarely camp at the same location twice. After we discovered that the West Clear Creek Wilderness was down this road we stayed another 4 days here so we could check it out. The best thing to do while camping near Camp Verde in our opinion is to hike the West Clear Creek Trail and beyond! Youll experience huge tall green cottonwoods all along the river as well as swimming holes surrounded by gorgeous red rocks. And there are areas with cliffs and walls near the water so you can climb and jump. For more details about exploring West Clear Creek Wilderness, check out this article.

If youre looking for another amazing hike to do while youre camping near Camp Verde, we would definitely recommend Black Canyon Trail. It is one of those hikes that is beautiful the entire time and keeps getting better and better! Check out this article to get the details.

Also nearby in Montezuma Castle National Monument. This is a neat old dwelling built into the canyon walls years ago. If you already have a National Park Pass its definitely worth a stop.

While we were camping near Camp Verde we explored the washes near our camp spot. We never know what were going to find when we set off and wander. One particular evening stroll turned into a 6 mile adventure through the washes. And we found some tall badland-like formations, narrow canyon areas, and a few medium sized dry falls. The washes were also full of color and fragrance from the flowering bushes everywhere.
