River Plantation RV Resort is located in Sevierville which is North of Pigeon Forge. It is the furthest away from the Smoky Mountain National Park entrances, but still within a day trip drive.
It is a very pretty campground that is well maintained, and it has some riverfront sites available. Amenities include Wi-Fi, cable, 30/50, and full hookups. This is a Good Sam Park.
This resort has some nice activities that are offered. It has a great pool with a lazy river and splash pad, a playground, a basketball court, a fitness center, and a dog park. They also have lots of planned activities to keep your family happy.

Camping In The Great Smoky Mountains National Park
Of the ten campgrounds that live in the national park, six of them can comfortably accommodate some level of RV camping. Some of the more beautiful locations, like Elkmont Campground, offer spots that can fit up to 35 rigs, while the parks most remote campground, Deep Creek promises a less crowded experience as long as youre under 26 or so.
The majority of campgrounds play host to flushing toilets, but while some have dump stations, dont expect much more in the way of hookups. Cades Cove and Smokemont are even open year round if you can brave the snowy temperatures. These two campgrounds also accommodate rigs up to 40.

Deep Creek Tube Center and Campground is a lovely campground on the North Carolina side of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, located near the city of Bryson City. The charming campground is located on the banks of beautiful Deep Creek, known throughout the region as the park’s top destination for whitewater rafting and tubing. Over 40 campsites are offered at the campground, ranging from creekside tent camping to areas for travel trailers, RVs, and mobile homes. It is worth mentioning that everyone has their own criteria for a perfect RV Campground. Our criteria may be different than yours and that is totally fine! Each family has a different RV, different interests/hobbies, and different needs.
Some people have kids and pets, and others have none. Either way, the RV parks below are on the list because I believe they will work for most everyone – maybe not all, but MOST.

Whispering River Rv Resort Walland Tn
Located within minutes of Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Whispering River RV Resort is nestled between two mountains on the Little River. Its location is considered the quiet side of the Smokies. Its a short drive to Alcoa, Townsend, Maryville, and Knoxville, and of course, all there is to see and do in Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg. Attractions like Tuckaleechee Caverns, Cades Cove, and Tail of the Dragon are not far away either.
The park offers full hook-up sites with satellite TV, free Wi-Fi, picnic tables and fire pits, and access to a half-mile of the Little River to enjoy fishing, canoeing, or tubing. The parks 77 sites are pull through, pull in, and back in and can accommodate up to a 45-foot rig.
Take a stroll or a bike ride on the parks 40 acres, or relax by the pool or beach area. The resort also offers a childrens playground, volleyball, horseshoe pits, bonfire area, walking trails, as well as a meeting room and event center for your next family reunion.

There are no free campgrounds in the Smoky Mountains. However, you can get to camp near the Smoky Mountains at some free nearby campsites. It is important to note these campsites provide primitive camping options that are not for everybody.
Free camping sites near the Smokies include the Nantahala National Forest, Cherokee National Forest, Pisgah National Forest, and Harmon Den Wildlife Management Area.

Located north of Gatlinburg, Pine Mountain RV Park is tucked far enough away from the town to be quiet and peaceful, but is close enough for a nice escape when youre ready for it. Tsali Campground is a charming campground in the city of Almond, North Carolina, named in honor of a local indigenous figure during the region’s pioneer era. The campground is open to the public for overnight stay between April and October each year, offering 42 campsites available on a first-come, first-served basis. Tent and small RV campsites are available, though no electric hookups are offered. Each campsite offers outdoor amenities like fire rings, day-use picnic tables, and lantern posts. All guests can make use of the campground’s modern bathhouses, which feature flush toilets, hot showers, and drinking water. The campground is located on the banks of picturesque Fontana Lake, which offers boat launch ramps and chances for year-round walleye fishing. Creekside Rv Park Pigeon Forge Tn
This Smoky Mountain RV park offers 108 campsites along Walden Creek in the heart of Pigeon Forge. Most sites are back-in, but there are a few pull throughs as well. Each site offers full hook-ups with 30- or 50-amp service, cable, water, sewer, and Wi-Fi.
Enjoy full cable TV service, a dedicated fire ring to make smores or maybe a few memories, and a picnic table at each site. There is plenty to do including a saltwater swimming pool to relax and unwind or fishing at Waldens Creek. The camp store offers ice cream, firewood, souvenir gifts, and even spare parts for your RV.
Creekside RV Park is family-owned and located near dining, outlet shopping, and entertainment. In fact, one of the most frequently questions asked in is, Whats the best campground in the Smokies?
Well, theres no single answer to that question. Where you should stay will depend on what geographical area you want to be in and the type of environment you want to experience. There are campgrounds smack dab in the middle of Pigeon Forge with all the amenities and campgrounds in the heart of the national park without any hookups. And yes, its hard to pick just one out of all the amazing options. Perhaps thats why we ended up staying at three different campgrounds on our last visit to the Smokies. Smoky Mountains Campgrounds: Greenbrier Campground
Greenbrier Campground is a charming family-friendly campground in Gatlinburg, Tennessee, located on the banks of the gorgeous Little Pigeon River just minutes from the Greenbrier entrance to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The beautiful campground offers access to some of the region’s top visitor attractions, including lively theme park Dollywood and mountaintop resort Ober Gatlinburg. Visitors can select from a wide variety of tent and RV hookup campsites, which offer electric hookups, running water, and beautiful river views. Cable television is offered for RV hookup campers. Visitors can also stay overnight at the lovely Flint Rock Cabin, which sleeps up to six guests and features a full kitchenette, bathroom, and outdoor fire pit.

Little Arrow Outdoor Resort
PRICE: Around $80 per night
Ideal For: Luxury campers of all kinds. This resort can accommodate most RVs.
Pros: Little Arrow has completed a round of renovations that drastically improved the bathhouse and public spaces. Sites are spaced apart nicely, and, to top it off, they host food trucks on the weekends.
Cons: Itll cost a pretty penny.
Smoky Mountain Campgrounds Vibe: 6.7/10 The site gets massive points for style and class. But, the prices make it hard to justify if youre planning a rustic camping trip.
Tennessee/north Carolina State Line
5. Cosby Campground
If you want to camp closer to the North Carolina/Tennessee line, the Cosby TN area is a great place to start. This site is versatile, as it allows for tent and RV camping. Right next to Cosby Creek, the Cosby Campground could easily be one of the best campgrounds in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park because of its amenities. These include: a picnic area and shelters, an emergency phone, restrooms, and much more! Other notable aspects of the Cosby Campground are that it has handicap accessible sites, and pets are allowed with the same restrictions in place that are at the Elkmont Campground.
6. Big Creek Campground
Big Creek Campground is near Waynesville NC in the northeastern corner where Tennessee and North Carolina meet. It hosts those who are tent-only campers and features a picnic area and a fire pit. If you love hiking, this is the campground to visit! It has access to: Big Creek Trail, the Appalachian Trail by way of Chestnut Branch Trail, and Baxter Creek Trail. You can also visit Mouse Creek Falls near Mouse & Big Creeks, and Midnight Hole, which is a deep pool formed from Big Creek flowing through big boulders.

The Best Rv Campgrounds In Smoky Mountains
The Smoky Mountains are the most visited National Park in the U.S., and there are many campgrounds. Choosing the RV park that works best for you can be time-consuming. We’ve done some of the leg work and found some parks for you!
All of our recommended campgrounds are located within easy driving distance to several of the Smoky Mountain National Park entrances and visitor centers.
The largest concentration of campgrounds are around Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg, and next to the most popular entrance .
Both Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg are busy towns loaded with fun activities, shopping, food, and entertainment for everyone in your family.
While busy towns may not be your cup of tea, there are a couple of RV-friendly campgrounds located in quieter areas so you can enjoy the outdoors!

Forney Creek Trail Via Appalachian Trail
To get bragging rights that you hiked part of the Appalachian Trail, spend a few nights on the Forney Creek Trail via the AT. You can make this an out-and-back 18.6-mile trek or a 20.6-mile loop. Backcountry sites 68, 69, 70 and 71 are along this stretch, and you will need a backcountry permit and reservations for the sites in which you plan to spend the night.
You will summit Clingmans Dome within the first half mile and can tackle Andrews Bald on the way there or back, depending on how you are feeling. From Andrews Bald, you can see Fontana Lake and expansive views of the Smokies. You can make it a loop by taking the Springhouse Branch to the Forney Ridge trail up and over Andrews Bald, but know it is basically a 10-mile stretch back to the car from campsite 71.
To get detailed information on backcountry camping and trail conditions, call the Backcountry Office at 865-436-1297, which is open daily from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. or go online to the backcountry permit site. to get a backcountry permit, go to the parks reservation site.
To get to the trailhead, turn off Newfound Gap Road .1 mile south of Newfound Gap and follow the 7-mile-long Clingmans Dome Road to the large parking area at the end.
