Cruise The River Road
Cruising the River Road is a great way to relax and enjoy the scenery. The River Road runs approximately 10 miles alongside the Guadalupe River between Canyon Lake and New Braunfels.
The road is lined with Cypress trees and takes you through four river crossings, campgrounds, tree tunnels, farmlands, ranches, and ends near the Overlook Park. Along the way, you can enjoy fossil hunting, bird watching, geocaching, paddle boarding, and live music at one of the local restaurants.
Creek Hollow Rv Park & Cabins
Creek Hollow RV Park offers full hook-up sites for most rigs. Just 10 minutes from Canyon Lake and the Guadalupe River, this is a great place for a family vacation.
Amenities include a swimming pool and hot tub, playground, laundromat, dump station, restrooms with showers, and room for group camping and family reunions.

Free camping in Texas is arguably much easier in a tent thanan RV.
The reason for this is that many free campsites in Texas aresmackdab in the middle of nowhere with minimal maintenance and upkeep. Thismeans that the dirt access roads are often very rough, especially after heavyrains.
That said, many Texas free campsites do accommodate RVs.Its just important to do a little extra research, keep an eye on the weather,and scout ahead on foot if necessary.
Also important is to understand youre likely in forboondocking. Also known as dry camping, boondockingis the most primitive form of RV camping. Canyon Lake Rv Resort Residents Have Built 334 Homes
Editors Note: This story was written for publication in the Progress Times Winter Texan Appreciation Edition, however, we felt our local readers would also enjoy reading about this industrious and charitable group of Winter Texans.
Many Winter Texans are generous with their time and talents, helping those who are less fortunate. One of these groups of Winter Texans live at Canyon Lake RV Resort in Mission Canyon Lake Builders.
Twice a week, between mid-November and mid-March, groups of men from Canyon Lake Builders go to Nuevo Progreso and build a new home for an impoverished Mexican family.
The project is a direct result from the good works started by Mabel Clare Proudly, who came to the Valley from Cleveland, Ohio about the time Hurricane Beulah devastated the Valley in 1967. When the hurricane struck, Mabel served as a Red Cross volunteer. She noticed that many children were on the streets of Nuevo Progreso because there was no school. They lived in dire conditions and she felt they would have no hope for a better future unless they got an education.
Because many of the children were homeless, Mabel asked many poor families to take in the children, with a promise to bring them food, clothing and medical needs and help with their education. She also promised to build them a house if possible.
In the beginning, residents of Canyon Lake passed the hat at dances. Betty Red Endres acted as bookkeeper. Pancake dinners were also held to raise money.

Located just minutes outside of Cottonwood, Dead Horse Ranch State Park offers up plenty of space for campers of all types. While the campground isnt directly by the water, its just a short stroll to the banks of the Verde River, as well as a couple of small oxbow lakes a rarity in Arizona.
Anglers will keep themselves busy here, but with over 10 miles of hiking trails directly accessible from your campsite, you dont have to be into fishing in order to enjoy the area. Also consider a 10 minute drive to Tuzigoot National Monument to visit the ancient Singuan ruins, or a 20 minute drive up the hill to historic downtown Jerome. This is also a great base camp to explore red rock country, just a 30 minute drive from Sedona.
With well over 100 standard campsites plus numerous group sites and cabins in the mix, theres a lot of room, but we still recommend advanced reservations as this place often fills up, especially on those perfect weather weekends.

Experience Texas Hill Country At Canyon Lake Campgrounds
Texas Hill Country is one of many beautiful places to visit in the Lone Star State. Just west of San Marcos and about one hour from San Antonio, Canyon Lake is at the heart of Hill Country.

Free Camping Near Utahs Big Five National Parks
Have you heard of Utahs Mighty Five national parks? If not, its time to get this epic road trip on your bucket list. The Mighty Five parksArches, Canyonlands, Capitol Reef, Bryce, and Zionare all located in southern Utah, and full of the kind of red-rock landscapes that will have your wanderlust dreams firing on all cylinders. There is no free camping inside the parks, but nearby BLM and Forest Service land provide excellent options.
Lets move from east to west, starting at otherworldly Arches National Park. Those who need to stay in cell phone range will gravitate toward the popular Willow Springs Trail along the original entrance road to Arches. This spot gets overcrowded fast, so those with a high-clearance rig who prefer a quieter experience might check out Lower Gemini Bridges.
Canyonlands National Park is a short drive from Arches. Make your home base at Lone Mesa to explore the Island in the Sky region, or Lockhart Road to check out the lesser-visited, and stunningly beautiful, Needles District.
Next up is Capitol Reef, a gem of a park that often gets overlooked by its flashier neighbors. This spot is absolutely worth a visit if you like soaring cliffs and hikes through the canyons. Settle into Pleasant Creek Dispersed to be just a stones throw from the park itself.
Hiking Fishing Bicycling Swimming
Of course, hiking is in abundance with more than 31 trails covering more than 171 miles. Enjoy the views and see wildlife whether youre on foot, bicycle, or horseback.
Fishing is also popular on Canyon Lake. Catch largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, Guadalupe bass, White and Striped bass, and several species of catfish. Canyon Lake also has three parks with beaches, so of course swimming is a great way to cool off.

Guadalupes Best Rv Park
Located below Canyon Lake Dam, Guadalupes Best RV Park backs up to the Guadalupe River Nature Trail and river. Hike across the dam, take a swim in the lake, or relax while fishing. Hike the riverfront nature trail or take a tube trip.
The full hook-up sites have river access as well as free WiFi. The RV park is just a ¼ mile from Canyon Lake Gorge and a short 4 miles to a concert at the White Water Amphitheater. Dont forget to check out the Dam Red Barn for food and live music.

Free Camping Near Park City And The Wasatch Range
Utah may tout itself as having the greatest snow on earth, but that snow wouldnt be too useful without the gorgeous mountains it gets trapped on. These mountains are beloved by skiers in the winter and adventure-loving campers in the summer.
Check out Salamander Flat or Heber Mountain for beautiful boondocking and tent camping on national forest lands. Mud Creek Road BLM dispersed camping near Strawberry Reservoir is another option near the Wasatch.
