Camping World Gets Final Approval For Giant Us Flag
GEORGETOWN, Ky. A Kentucky board has approved a permit for a 150-foot flagpole thatll fly a giant American flag after initially denying it.
The Georgetown Board of Adjustment approved a permit that would allow the 5,000-square foot flag to fly in a 4-0 vote Monday.
The Lexington Herald-Leader reports Camping World applied for a high-rise sign and 130-foot flagpole in January. The board approved the sign, but denied the flagpole because it would have been considered a second interstate sign. City ordinances allow only one sign per parcel.
Camping World CEO Marcus Lemonis tweeted about the decision in April. The city council approved the permit in May that would make a distinction between commercial signs and the American flag.
The Camping World will open Saturday.___

Georgetown Officials Approve Gigantic Flag For Camping World
GEORGETOWN, Ky. In April, The Georgetown Board of Adjustments denied Camping World a permit to fly a large American flag outside its new store off Interstate 75.
At the time, the city said it violated its sign ordinance, saying any flag over 32 feet high and/or greater than 32 square feet is considered an interstate sign. And, because the company had already been permitted an interstate sign, a flag would have been considered a second interstate sign. It is against the sign ordinance to have two interstate signs per parcel.
In the following weeks, the city changed its sign ordinance to make an exception for non-commercial flags.
On Monday evening, The Board of Adjustments approved Camping Worlds permit to fly a 5,000 square foot American flag.
Were not here to stir up controversy. We treat every store the same. We have the same approach. We have the same flag at all of our locations. Its part of what we do. We love this country and love doing business in a community like Georgetown. So, were very happy with where we are today, Camping World General Manager Dave Hildebrandt said.
Hildebrandt said he hopes to have the flag ready for the thousands of people he expects to be at the stores grand opening on Saturday.
The flag is part of who we are. Its a part of who we all are, but we love to show it off, Hildebrandt said.

Giant American Flag Raised Outside New Camping World In Georgetown
Veterans helped raise a giant American flag Saturday at a ceremony outside the new Camping World just off I-75 in Georgetown.
The store was packed for its grand opening. Many customers stopped to take pictures of the flag.
It had been a long time coming.

“I think we had a great partnership with the city and we worked together to achieve a common goal at the end of the day,” said David Hildebrandt, the store’s general manager. “The city of Georgetown’s here to put themselves on the map, and this flag certainly does that, as well as for us.”
The flag pole is 130 feet tall and goes 13 feet into the ground. The flag itself is 40 feet tall and 80 feet long – a total of 3,200 square feet.
Steve Symonds, CEO of
, runs the Texas-based company that makes the poles and flags for the giant American flags that fly outside of all Camping World stores. He says seeing Old Glory in all its glory never gets old.
“To see something this big go up – and I love America, of course, like anybody else in the U.S. should – it gets you. Every time I do it,” Symonds said. “And I’ve been doing it for a long time.”
