Not sure to talk to because this needs to be address you can’t treat paying guests this disrespectfully and continue. They need to give respect to the paying guest period. So upset how I was treated. Lopez Lake Recreation Area

State and SLO County campgrounds closed due to coronavirus

Located just ten miles east of Arroyo Grande, California, Lopez Lake Recreation Area is one of the top choices for camping and leisure trips. With 22 miles of shoreline and summer lake temperatures around 70°F, there is something for everyone camping, fishing, boating, picnicking, hiking and equestrian trails, mountain biking, zip-lining, birdwatching and so much more. The warm climate of the Central Coast makes Lopez Lake the ideal, year-round recreational destination. Once covered by the sea, the surrounding hills of Lopez Lake are rich with relics of ancient days and studded with oak trees. Over 175 species of flowering plants, and more than 150 species of birds have been identified within the park. The naturally beautiful canyons were once hunting and fishing grounds for the Chumash Indians. Later, homesteaders and ranchers inhabited the area and harvested grain crops for Mission San Luis Obispo. Lopez Lake was then created in 1969 to provide domestic water for the Five Cities area of the Central Coast.

About Camping In San Luis Obispo

Below, you will find a comprehensive list of campgrounds located in San Luis Obispo County. To make things easier, I have grouped the entries in the list by the major cities and areas in the county.

For each major city and area, I may provide resources about what to see, do, and eat. As mentioned in the intro, I have explored the county at depth.

You will find a mix of public and private campgrounds.

We tend to associate camping with tents. However, there are different types of camping. This list includes options for tents, recreational vehicles , trailers, and even boats. Notice some of the places mentioned here do not accommodate tents at all.

I am providing direct links to the campgrounds booking sites. When you see these links, it means that you can reserve in advance. In theory, you can forget about reservations and look for a place once you arrive at your destination. I advise against this during the high season and holiday weekends.

If camping is not your preferred accommodation option and you are considering because of budget reasons, I encourage you to take a look at hotels. I have stayed in fantastic places for $40 $50 per night.

San Luis Obispo County Campgrounds Open For 100% Capacity

San Luis Obispo County campgrounds are operating at 100% occupancy but they’re not accessible to everyone.

The campgrounds at Lopez Lake, Santa Margarita Lake, Coastal Dunes RV Park, and Oceano Memorial Park are open to San Luis Obispo County residents only.

This decision was made to help prevent the potential spread of COVID-19.

In order to get into the campground, you must have a valid ID that shows you live in the county.

Other guidelines include having only one campsite per household, and reservations will also not be taken.

According to SLO County Parks and Rec Director Nick Franco, the campgrounds on the lakes have been filling up every weekend.

Having the lakes open certainly gives the local folks a place to visit and a place to go camping at least to get outside a little bit. And those ones are the ones that we’ve been seeing the major impact where people are certainly coming every weekend and filling up, said Franco.

A date for when camping will be opened up to non-residents hasnt been decided.
