Tom Johnson Camping Center in both Marion and Concord is being purchased by Camping World Inc., according to an online report.

The website for RV Business reports that Camping World Inc.s 100-store-plus network of rolling stock RV dealerships has taken an appreciable step forward with the purchase of Tom Johnson Camping Centers in Marion and Concord. Camping World is also buying Dandy RV Superstore in Oxford, Ala. The purchases were confirmed by Camping World Chairman and CEO Marcus Lemonis, according to the online report by RV Business.

This, of course, is big news for the industry at large, coming as it does amid an era of continuing consolidation, reads the report, Tom Johnsons, a regional powerhouse founded in 1967 with camping facilities located next to both stores, has been North Carolinas No. 1 RV dealer for 23 consecutive years and partly because of its NASCAR links has cultivated an almost legendary name in U.S. motorhome retailing.

Lemonis announced in meetings late last week with employees at both Tom Johnson Camping Center stores that Stroud will stay at the companys helm with company founder Tom Johnson himself remaining in somewhat of an advisory role. Tom Johnson Camping Center will retain its original name, reads the online report.
