Camping In Michigan In October

Beaver Island Campground In Beaver Island Mi

Michigan DNR begins filling 1,200 seasonal jobs at State Parks

Campground Highlights:AREA INFO > >

Camping in Michigan at Tahquamenon Falls State Park:There are two campgrounds at Tahquamenon Falls. If you have younger kids I recommend staying at the Lower Falls. The trail along the falls is very kid-friendly. You can also rent a row-boat and row over to the island. The island is a great adventure. A quick hike around and you will find small water hole areas for kids to splash and play in. If you are camping you can pay for an all day rental and head over to island multiple times. Our younger kids loved it. This is one of our favorite campgrounds in Michigan.

What Is Michigan Like In October

Michigan is absolutely stunning in October as the trees are changing and the days are crisp. It’s perfect for hiking, biking and exploring as the bugs are minimal and the weather tends to be pretty moderate.

However, the temperatures can vary from needing a t-shirt to a full winter coat, so if you are visiting Michigan, be sure to check the weather before you pack!

We have toured Sleeping Bear Dunes in t shirts in October and by the end of the week we needed our winter jackets, so as the saying goes, “if you don’t like the weather, wait a day!”

So many fun things happening in October 2021!

But Be Sure To Pack The Right Gear For Fall

The gear youll bring for fall camping is much different than summer. Temperatures can still get high, but will drop low at night time, and you want to be prepared. Especially since you wont have anyone to snuggle up to when things get cold.

Here are a few things youll want to be sure you have with you for your fall solo camping:

  • Cold-weather sleeping bag
  • Lots of layers of clothing you want to be able to peel and add on
  • Winter hat
  • Hot drinks
  • Wool socks
  • Long underwear

This list is not all-inclusive, of course, but gives the absolute necessities for colder weather camping.
