Catherine Creek State Park

Near LaGrande, Oregon, United States

Tranquil, crystal-clear waters and towering ponderosa pines frame the landscape at Catherine Creek State Park. Cradled in a canyon created by the creek, the park provides visitors a cool, quiet, and peaceful setting for outdoor activities. Camp next to Catherine Creek and enjoy the thrill of landing a rainbow trout, or simply cool your heels in its icy waters.

Two reservable picnic areas are perfect for a gathering or reunion. When not reserved, the area is first-come, first-served. Enjoy a game of horseshoe, take a leisurely walk along the trail between the campground and picnic area for views of picturesque canyon scenery, or simply kick back under a tree and enjoy the summer breeze through the pines.

The park is a gateway to many regional attractions: visit the Union County Museum in Union or the Oregon Trail Interpretive Center near Baker City, or visit one of the many historic cemeteries in the area. Cast your line in Eagle Creek, or plan a hike in the Hells Canyon National Recreation Area or the Wallowa-Whitman National Forest. The towns of Union and La Grande offer visitors full-service shopping, restaurants, community events and emergency services.

Most helpful review

Now that you know the basics of camping at this incredible place, and know what to do and not do, enjoy the incredible wildlife. Eagles, Hawks, tons of different views, Bear, Coyote and if yu are really lucky you might even see a Wolf. Burnt River Canyon is a recovery ground for California Big Horn Sheep. Chances are, if you go a mile or to into the Canyon you will see the herd. In July you will see the tiny babies. They are magnificent. Research the history of the Canyon, and look for signs of the Chinese Walls, Ancient Native American Petroglyphs and Rock Paintings. The Burnt River Canyon is like no other place. Enjoy it with awareness!!Chances are you will lose cell signal close to the campsite no matter what company you have.

How to maintain personal hygiene while hiking?

You may not take a shower, but you must go to the toilet. So this question is not unreasonable at all. Regarding bathing, it depends on the route that you can bathe or not. You can bathe when there is a safe stream and a shack to rest. Ask the leader about this. If not, you can prepare dry shampoo to clean first and then go to the bathroom later. Going to the toilet is definitely going in the bushes, if you are more thoughtful, you can prepare a toilet tent.

Free Camping On The Oregon Coast

If you are looking for dispersed camping on the Oregon coast, there are several opportunities available. Free camping is available outside of coastal state parks and outside of certain city limits.

These spots tend to be remote and hard to access. Campers should take care to note where high tide is and keep their tents well away from the shoreline.

Whether you just need to know where to camp nearby or you want to plan a free camping road trip, we’ve got you covered. You can simply use your smart phone’s GPS to find camping near you or even use our trip planner to plan your route from coast to coast.

We are not actively seeking Wal-Marts, truckstops or other parking lots and will not be adding very many of these. There are enough Wal-Mart and truck stop directories out there already. However, if a member of the community finds one of these locations to be useful for overnight RV parking and creates an entry, we may approve the listing.

Free State Park Camping Oregon

While state parks typically charge a fee to stay within their grounds and utilize camping spots, a few groups are exempt from this charge.

The state offers special camping passes to U.S. veterans with a service-related disability or active military on official leave. This pass allows for free parking and free camping in Oregon state parks, including RV sites, campsites, and horse campsites.

Additionally, several parks within the Oregon state park system will sometimes offer free yurts and cabins for groups of underrepresented campers such as people of color, disabled campers, and those who identify as LGBTQ.
