Hope Island State Park

Campers planning a visit to Olympia who also travel by boat can reserve sites at 106-acre Hope Island State Park , located 18 miles north of the city. Four tent sites are available to motor boaters and an additional site is accessible by canoe or kayak. Campfires are not permitted at the park, and potable water is not provided to campers. Reservations are also not accepted at the park for camp sites. Once a site is set up, campers have access to 1.5 miles of beachfront shoreline and two miles of hiking trails. Picnic tables are also available for day-use visitors.

Brown Creek Campground is located along the shore of the South Fork Skokomish River at the confluence with Brown Creek. Evergreen conifers and hardwoods provide lots of shade at this campground. There are 20 campsites in Brown Creek Campground: twelve will accommodate trailers and RVs and eight of the sites are suitable for tents. There is one ADA accessible campsite. Six sites at Brown Creek Campground along forest Road 2430 are open year-round. There is also an accessible vault toilet also open year-round nearby at Brown Creek Trailhead.

The family friendly Brown Creek Nature Loop Trail #877 can be accessed from within the campground. There are accessible vault toilets and potable water within the main campground during the season.

Several inlets and islands dot the Sound near Olympia and provide travelers with scenic views. The city of Olympia manages more than 900 acres of parkland for day use, with several picnic areas, playgrounds and trails available to residents and visitors. Tent campgrounds are available within a 30-mile radius of Olympia’s downtown core in a variety of natural settings.
