Clatsop Loop Trail From Indian Beach
Be prepared for some burning calves as there is quite a hunk of uphill climbing involved in this hike. But with high elevation comes great views, and this hike isnt short of them, with views out over the ocean and lighthouse. The loop is 2.5 miles in length, so although it is tough, it is definitely doable.
It starts at the information kiosk at the Indian Beach parking area and heads up to Hikers Camp, before looping back round to the parking lot, passing some breathtaking views of the coastline, including views of the Tillamook Rock lighthouse.
Port Orford Heads State Park
Despite limited hours, the museum at Port Orford Heads State Park is a must-visit. Here youll have an opportunity to learn about the hardworking, risk-taking lifeboat crews that once manned this station. Anyone who has witnessed an Oregon coast storm can appreciate the dangers these men faced. The fishermen and sailors that plied the waters here depended on the bravery of these crews. After youve absorbed the history, take in a walk along the Port Orford Heads State Park Trails to really grasp the grand scale of the land at work here.
Shore Acres State Park
One of the most stunning parks in the system, an entire trip can easily be devoted to just this one state park. Humbling geology, the history of the Louis Simpson estate, sea cliffs, and a not-to-be-missed botanical garden are just some of the wonders to be found here. If you find yourself visiting in the winter months, a lighting display takes over the gardens creating a magical coastal scene. Pet owners should be aware, however, that dogs are not allowed out of cars, and the policy is strictly enforced. Please plan your trip accordingly.

Every inch of the park is just so beautiful. Here and there, they offer the most breathtaking sightseeings that will make your journey in the park memorable.Just once you set your step at the entrance, you will be welcomed with a lush Sitka spruce forest and take steps further to see the wonderful views of the Pacific Ocean.If you love photography or just snapping around, you will fall in love with the scene of the viewpoint of the south side of the park. It’s a scene of seaside sweeping the shoreline south of the Cannon Beach shore. Then, look around and you will see the coastal mountains above.
Humbug Mountain State Park Campground
The Humbug Mountain State Park campground offers 56 tent sites and 39 electric and water hookup sites for anyone interested in camping at the Oregon Coast.
Because this campground sits at the base of Humbug Mountain, youll notice that the campsite is protected from the natural elements and has calmer weather conditions.
The biggest selling points of this Oregon Coast campground are the great amenities and accessibility to the beach.
The only drawback is the proximity to the Oregon Coast Highway because the road noise is audible and I prefer the sound of crashing waves to cars while camping at the Oregon Coast.
But the pros definitely outweigh the cons and I always enjoy camping here.

Ecola State Park To Indian Beach Trail
Unfortunately, landslides are pretty common in Ecola State Park, which can have an impact on some of the trails. You should always check the status of the trails before you head out.
This section is part of the Oregon Coast Trail, which takes the trail further inland than it used to after being washed out in 2017. Much of the trail takes you through the thick forest with the occasional viewpoint. The reward a the end is a stroll along the beautiful Indian Beach which is tucked into a shallow cove.
At first, the path leads down over a footbridge over Cresent Creek before switchbacking up into a Sitka spruce forest, from this lofty point youll get some great views of the headland before you head inland. At the end of the hike, you will head back towards the coast.

Smith Rock State Park
Oregon is famous for being green, but the red, yellow and orange hues of Smith Rock state park, near Terrebonne, serve as a colourful gateway to the states arid and beautiful eastern desert. Smith Rock is famous among rock climbers as the birthplace of modern sport climbing, where climbers follow bolted routes up challenging rock faces. Smith Rock has some of the hardest sport routes in the world, including the first 5.14 grade climb ever completed in the US. Even if youre not a world-class rock climber, Smith Rock has hundreds of routes, many suitable for beginners several reputable guiding companies are based in the area. Visitors who prefer to stay close to the ground can explore miles of hiking and mountain biking trails and the scenic Crooked river has excellent fishing. Primitive walk-in camping is available in the park, first-come, first-served, as well as at the national forest Skull Hollow campground, just five miles down the road.
Top tip: Dont let the name scare you away, the Misery Ridge 3.8-mile loop hike is a treat, with views of Smith Rock, the Crooked river canyon and the entire Cascade peaks to the west, including Mount Hood, Mount Jefferson and the Three Sisters.

Day Trip To Ecola State Park
Most travelers come on a day trip from Portland or Cannon Beach to take in the magnificent views, picnic, go surfing, or maybe do some light hiking. Others make it part of their Oregon coast road trip as they wind their way down the coast from north to south.
For photographers the park offers endless opportunities from the views of the coast to the amazing flora and fauna, especially the numerous species of sea birds along with Bald Eagles and Peregrine Falcons.
The park is open year round making it possible to see migrating gray whales in the winter and spring.

Tidepooling is popular here. This is common to happen along the North Coast. With the colorful creatures coming to the shoreline, people just love to watch them. Cannon Beach and Crescent Beach are some of the spots where you can easily find them. Just below at the viewpoint of Ecola State Park, you will reach the north end of Crescent Beach. Here, you can find a lot of tidepool life among the rocks. It’s best to see the tide pools during the low tide, so you can see them more. Tide pools can be viewed at any time of day but are best visited during low tide because youll be able to see more creatures. Just make sure you are here when there is no caution applied. Tidepool is a fragile ecosystem, so you need to carefully walk to the point of not damaging them. Watch them carefully and observe these precious sea life. Beware of the environment when you visit the intertidal area.
