Coast To Coast Camping Membership Cost

More Fees Than Other Memberships

The Best Camping & RVing Memberships

While joining Coast to Coast is only $90 annually, this is just the tip of the iceberg in terms of fees. They briefly mention that memberships are not available to the public and that you must be a member of one of their network resorts to become a member.

However, they fail to mention that joining one of their network resorts can cost several thousand dollars. Fees vary but typically include annual maintenance and HOA-type service fees.

You could buy used memberships through third-party resellers. Because you must buy into a specific home resort, finding a used membership for a resort near you can be challenging. Prices can range from several hundred to several thousand dollars based on the resort and the benefits included.

The Only 3 Rv Memberships You Need

When you set out on the road in an RV, youll quickly realize that RV parks rates are often outlandish. From lows of $25/night to highs of $95/night, the rates at RV parks can approach those of budget hotels all for a slab of concrete!

With prices like these, its reasonable for any aspiring RVer to wonder: Is there a way to beat the exorbitant rates charged at RV parks???

Thankfully, the answer is a resounding yes. The key is RV memberships. RV memberships are simply clubs that RVers join so we can leverage our group buying power to get better rates at RV parks.

But beware not all RV memberships are created equal. In fact, if you Google RV Memberships youll find so many options that itll be tough to keep it all straight.

So thats why Ive put this article together for you. Unlike many of those other RV membership articles out there, this one is not simply a Listicle. Instead, Im going to give you a battle-tested blueprint for using just three RV memberships thatll let you criss-cross the country while camping for free or very low cost.

How did I uncover this prized trio of RV memberships? In the trenches. My wife and I have been living on the road for 3+ years and weve spent that time perfecting the art of camping at wonderful places for pennies on the dollar.

My wife and I at Badlands National Park we set up our RV for free right in the park.

North Shore features railroad cars and cabooses.

Luna Sands is north of Orlando, near the St. Johns river.

Passport America And Escapees

Two great discount camping clubs are Passport America and Escapees. Both cost $50 or less per year to join, but the similarities end there.

  • Escapees has about 1000 member campgrounds and offers 15% to 50% discounts to those who stay in them. .
  • Passport America has more than 1900 member campgrounds and generally offers a standard 50% discount to those who visit, but there are many limitations.

The quality and security of each campground can vary greatly.

Some are beautiful, well-manicured resorts, while others barely meet decent camping standards. The majority, however, are perfectly fine, are well located and are reasonably priced if you use your discounts properly.

Each park has the option of imposing its own stay limitations. You cannot simply “move in” and stay on a year-round basis, nor can you expect to be able to get the larger discounts on either plan during peak tourist times.

This is why it is a good idea to check their guides club as aides to trip planning. You can see them on the internet at PassportAmerica.comand Escapees.com.

In my estimation, Passport America is the better financial bet because if you plan carefully, you can save enough even on short trips to pay for your annual membership fees and still come out ahead on your camping expenses. If you take long vacations, you can easily save hundreds of dollars per trip.

Cost Of Campground Membership

Membership in a camping system involves an initial purchase price that ranges from under $3,000 to more than $10,000, plus annual dues or maintenance fee that range from less than $100 to $600 or more.

Cost Analysis

The derived benefits depend upon your travel pattern and projected usage. The more you use the membership, the more your savings increase.

Assuming that your objective in joining a membership campground is to reduce your camping expenses, then do the math.

Figure out how many nights you will need to stay in membership campgrounds, as opposed to non-membership campgrounds, to really save money.

Prices of membership campground systems vary but lets say, for example, your membership fee is $8,000 and the current annual dues are $400 per year. Lets also assume you will use the membership for a minimum of 10 years.

The membership cost would amount to $800 per year. The annual dues would add another $400 per year.

Using these figures, it would cost $1200 per year to maintain a campground membership.

Campground fees at private RV parks vary with amenities and location .

Some rates are hitting the stratosphere! How about the current rates at these resorts:

Sunland Escondido RV Resort, Escondido, California: $39-$86 per night

South Carlsbad State Beach, California: $35-$50 per night

Boyds Key West Campground, Florida: $70-$90 per night $90-$120 per night

Coast To Coast Network Policies

SYSTEM USETo use Coast to Coasts Tripsetter reservation system to book stays at network resorts, you must be an active member with both your home resort and Coast to Coast.

ANNUAL DUESAnnual Coast to Coast membership dues are paid directly to Coast to Coast prior to your enrollment anniversary. These are separate from the annual maintenance fees billed by your home resort.

RESORT ACCESS

  • Access to network resorts and Good Neighbor Parks is on a space-available basis relative to the number of sites each resort designates for Coast to Coast membership use.
  • Not all sites in every resort are devoted to the Coast to Coast network. Resorts cant guarantee availability.
  • Coast to Coast cannot guarantee the availability of full hookups at resorts.

HIGH-DEMAND AREASAt certain times, space may be difficult to secure in high-demand regions such as coastal areas in the summer and Sunbelt areas in the winter. It is highly recommended that you make reservations as early as possible when youd like to visit these areas at those times.

MULTI-RESORT SYSTEMSCoast members cannot book back-to-back reservations at network resorts within a multi-resort system. After each stay in a multi-resort system, a member must be out of that multi-resort system for 7 days before starting another reservation/stay at a resort within that same multi-resort system. For more information see the Multi-Resort Systems chart in your Coast annual directory or on this web site.

What Is The Coast To Coast Rv Camping Club

Campground memberships we use to live full time in a RV on a budget

The Coast to Coast RV club, which began in 1972, is a network of RV parks and resorts throughout the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Its a part of a larger company that includes Good Sam, Camping World, Gander Outdoors, and Overtons.

It works similarly to a timeshare where members select a home park and receive a discounted rate to other locations. However, becoming a member of a participating resort can be rather expensive, and memberships are not available to the general public. Once you join, youll have access to over 200 locations participating in the program.

    Jack And Laura In 2017

Camping Coast to Coast was the first collaboration between Laura and I. After graduating from college, we packed up Lauras Honda Civic, and hit the road. What started as a fun month long road trip, turned into a 2 year research project studying summer camps and intentional learning communities. Camping Coast to Coast connected us with some of the most passion compassionate people on the planet. It jump started our passion for working with kids in empathic self-directed communities. I can’t imagine a better way to have spent that time.

Our big project now is running Stomping Ground, an overnight camp we founded in 2015 and help summer camps and other youth organizations better tell their story online. We speak and consult around the country on topics like the power of play, trusting kids, and getting ideas to spread.
