Don't Miss

Anastasia State Park Rv Camping

Lovely State Park By The Ocean

Saint Augustine Florida | RV CAMPING | Anastasia State Park

I stayed here with my for 5 days in January, 2014 . This park was really hard to get a reservation on the weekends, so if you’re set on staying here, you’ll want to book early. There were plenty of sites available mid-week though.

Site: I stayed in Site 93 in the Angel Wing Loop. This campsite was nice and private even though it was right next to the bathroom. I actually preferred this spot since I don’t use the bathroom on board and it was really convenient to walk to the bathroom when needed. I was able to back in just fine with the help of one of the neighbors, but a lot of other people reported difficulties with low hanging branches. FYI, there are no trash cans in the loops, so you’ll have to take trash and recycling to the communal compactor when you first enter the loop section.

Wi-Fi/Connectivity: The only Wi-Fi available at the campground is at the store/restaurant near the beach. My Verizon iPhone 5 had three bars at the site and I was able to make phone calls with clarity. With the help of my Wilson Sleek 4G-V Booster I was able to boost to a full signal and tether from my phone to create a hotspot for 8+ hours per day. There seemed to be LTE in the last three loops and 3G in the first three.

Location: GPS struggled to find the campground. The park is not really that hard to find, but for some reason I kept going in circles. I would use the directions they give you from the park.

Laundry: I did not do laundry here, but they do have machines near the bathroom.

Inside Anastasia State Park

Theres plenty to do as you explore the maritime forests and shores of Anastasia State Park. Go fishing, spot local birds, or do some surfing in the water. Activities in the park include:

Birding: Thanks to a variety of habitats, there is also a variety of birds that live in the park. Its one of the most important areas for beach-nesting birds on the eastern coast of Florida. Its also along the eastern coastal flyway for migrating birds, so many of them stop off to eat and rest in the park before continuing their journey. The park is part of the Great Florida Birding and Wildlife Trail.

Visit the Old Spanish Quarries: The Spanish Coquina Quarries in the park are the primary source of coquina, a variation of limestone thats made up of sand and mollusk shells. The famous Castillo de San Marcos and other buildings in the Spanish colonial town of St. Augustine were made from coquina. The quarries are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Paddling: There are canoe and kayak launches in the park, and Anastasia Water Sports rents paddleboards, kayaks, canoes, and sail boats.

Geo-seeking: Many Florida parks have geocaches for visitors to find. Get off the beaten path and hunt for some treasures.

Surfing: You can surf along the shores of the park as well, and get a closer look at the parks water wildlife.

I have stayed here on numerous occasions and really like this state park. I like camping in the loop with the 100 numbered sites. The sites are wide, have good privacy, and are a close walk to the bath house. There is water and electric at these sites. The dump station is nearby at the entrance to the loop.

The entire campground is set in a hammock wooden setting. Its a quiet setting. The beach is short walk from the campground. Its a great park to ride a bike in.

Kayaking At Anastasia State Park

Anastasia State Park Campground Tour, St. Augustine (RV Living Full Time) 4K

The parks concession, Anastasia Water Sports, offers rentals of kayaks, canoes, stand-up paddle boards and sailboats for use on the parks lagoon, known as Salt Run..

The lagoon is excellent for less-experienced boaters and would be fine for an afternoon on the water, but serious kayakers will want to venture out of the lagoon into the Intracoastal Waterway.

When I arrived at the park, a park ranger, by all indications an experienced paddler, suggested I would find some ideal kayaking territory by driving about south on State Road A1A and put in my kayaks at the boat launch at Matanzas Inlet, or further south at the Marineland Marina complex.

Although I didnt have time for kayaking that day, I did drive south on A1A to check out his recommendation, and I found some excellent launch areas and inviting inland waterways that will surely be on my agenda for my next trip to the area.

Both launches provide access to the expansive Pellicer Creek Aquatic Preserve with ample opportunities for exploring backcountry waterways and pristine marshes that transition from saltwater to freshwater.

Access to Pellicer Creek is also available from Faver Dykes State Park, off U.S. 1 on the west side of the Intracoastal Waterway, or the 3900-acre Princess Place Preserve.

Rv Camping At Anastasia State Park In St Augustine Florida

We just finished up RV camping at Anastasia State Park, located in St. Augustine, Florida. We spent three nights there and overall, we had a great time!

Being that it is summer, we prefer to camp somewhere that has a place to cool off . This campground is located right by the ocean, so we figured it would be a good option. The campground has two sections that you can choose from. We were in campsite number 107. We did ride our bikes and look around our loop, as well as the campsites in the other area. It’s a very nice campground! There is lots of shade, with trees everywhere in the campground area. The campsite space was nice. It was shaded and had a nice buffer around it so that you have some privacy from your neighbors. The sites are a little short, so when you are hooking/unhooking your trailer you are blocking the road to traffic for the time that it takes you to do that. The campsite has a picnic table, and a fire pit.

We spent time at the beach each day, ran in the morning, did some biking, and had a great time. The park is located near businesses, too, so if you want to leave you will find nearby stores, restaurants, and plenty of tourist attractions.

Two thumbs up for RV camping at Anastasia State Park. We loved it there and will certainly be back! It’s a nice peaceful retreat in the woods, with beach access just minutes away. And the beach there was gorgeous, with some of the most beautiful dunes I’ve ever seen!

The rich variety of birds found here is due to a diversity of habitats, including beach, dunes, salt marsh, coastal scrub and the globally rare maritime hammock.

The Fountain Of Youth

Anastasia

We also spent some time at the Fountain of Youth Archaeological Park and drank some of the water. We surely need it! It was from the same water source as legend has it that Ponce De Leon drank in his search for the Fountain of Youth. In addition, the water has lots of minerals and a strong sulfur taste. It was pretty bad, but I am hoping the placebo effect will kick in.

There is a replica of a Timucua Indian village and demonstrations of how they lived. Timucuas were the indigenous people in St. Augustine during the time that Ponce De Leon was in the area. The park also provides live canon firings every hour.

Furthermore, the park is beautifully landscaped and filled with peacocks, including albino peacocks like the one below.

So, after some educational shows at the Fountain of Youth Park, we had a late lunch. We ate at O. C. Whites Seafood and Spirits because it was recommend by a local. The meal and service were both excellent!

Anastasia State Park Seduces With A Stunning Beach Cozy Campground

The campground at Anastasia State Park is among the best Florida has to offer: a back-to-nature experience with a high level of privacy afforded by dense vegetation around virtually every campsite I observed.

The beach stretches four miles along the Atlantic coast, wrapping around the northern point of Anastasia Island at the St. Augustine Inlet.

Broad and beautiful, you can ride your bicycle on hard sand below the tide line when the tide is out.

The park has a sheltered tidal lagoon behind the beach dunes where you can paddle your kayaks and canoes, and theres a concession on the main park road where you can rent Hobie 16 catamaran sailboats in addition to kayaks, paddleboards and sail boards.

Im an old Hobie sailor and really liked that availability. You dont often find Hobies in state parks, and the hourly price is reasonable at $35 . The lagoon is wide and long, offering plenty of room to play.

The boats are set up and ready to go, and the concession staff will give you lessons if you need them.
