We’ve camped at Carl Blackwell a few of times for Oklahoma State Football games. We enjoy it. The lake is pretty and there is lots of wildlife. Most of the campgrounds are annual fee, but they have 2-3 for short term campers.Lots of spots for tent campers and folks with horses.While we use it for game weekends, if recommend it for folks traveling through OK or anyone looking to hang in north central OK for a few days.

Regardless of what outdoor activities you enjoy Lake Carl Blackwell has something for you. It is a popular camping spot for those that just want to sleep somewhere away from the city lights. LCB also offers opportunities for hiking, trail riding, fishing, and boating. Personally my favorite activity here is birding. I have had the joy of viewing various waterfowl here as well as kingfishers, flycatchers, pelicans, and kinglets. Occasionally the lake will get some accidentals such as the Lewis’s Woodpecker that made the lake its home last winter.
We rented a cabin for our family and some friends rented another. We had a great time visiting. It was a bit chili so the cabins were a bit small to get us all in one to eat, so we put on coats and ate outside. The lake was definitely a hard fish. 4 fish after being on the boat all day. We had a great time but the cabins could use a thorough cleaning. Staff was helpful.

We have now stayed at RV spots on both sides, east and west. Great views of the lake on either. Overall, the park is well maintained. Staff has been super accommodating every time. We have enjoyed hiking the trails every time too. Kayaking has offered some wonderful views of waterfowl and always full of photo opportunities around every bend. A great area to spend a weekend or just come out for a gorgeous sunset or sunrise. I would have given 5 stars if the RV spots had concrete pads. Spoiled right?
