The Rotary PlayGarden is located adjacent to the Guadalupe River Park& Gardens Visitor & Education Center and Conservancy office at 438 Coleman Avenue, San Jose, CA 95110. The Park is close to and bisected by many major freeways including 280, 101, 87, and 880. Please use Google Maps or another mapping website to navigate to the specific area. Spring Branch RV Park. Spring Branch RV Park is a lovely RV community in the Spring Branch area near GuadalupeRiverStatePark. Spots start at around $40 per night and come with tons of amenities. Full hookups, water, propane refills, restrooms and showers, a community kitchen and recreation area, a playground for kids, free Wi-Fi, a dog park and much more all come with a standard night’s.
How To Get There
Located just 40 miles north of San Antonio and 80 miles southwest of Austin, Guadalupe River State Park is in Comal and Kendall counties. To get there, travel west on State Highway 46, 8 miles west of the intersection of State Highway 46 and U.S. Highway 281. Or, travel east on State Highway 46, 13 miles east of Boerne. The parks address is 3350 Park Road 31, Spring Branch, TX 78070.
Amenities And Fun Things To Do:
Guadalupe River State Park has 37 water only sites, 47 water and electric sites, and 9 walk-in sites. The sites have picnic tables, grills, lantern holders, and tent pads. Most of the sites are level but fairly short and some may not accommodate the bigger rigs. The sites are fairly spacious and most are heavily treed and shaded. A couple sites have places to tether a horse.

There is a new Childrens Discovery Center that lets kids take a closer look at nature using scientific tools like magnifying glasses, microscopes and binoculars to see what theyve been missing. Inside the Center kids can try out exhibits, explore themed discovery boxes and then check out a free backpack of tools they can use to go back into the park and see for themselves.
On Saturdays you can sign up for a two-hour guided interpretive tour of the Honey Creek State Natural Area. The tour emphasizes history, geology, flora and fauna,

Guadalupe River State Park Hiking
The park is divided into two areas for hiking, divided north and south of the river. The northern portion is called the Bauer Unit and offers more remote hiking and biking trails. The Bauer Unit was unfortunately closed for controlled hunting when I visited, so be sure to check if itâs open before visiting.
Youâll find some more difficult trails in the Bauer Unit with steep elevation gains through the hills and forest. Also note that visiting the Bauer Unit from the main entrance involves crossing the river, so youâll likely get wet depending on water levels. However, there is also a separate parking lot for the Bauer Unit if you just want to go to this part!
The southern portion of the park has trails that are mostly flat and easy. The Painted Bunting Trail winds through prairie land and bits of forest. This trail has several glimpses of Texas Hill country views and is a great area for wildlife spotting! This is the longest trail in the park but it goes by really quickly because it was very flat.
The short River Overlook Trail gives you a view over the Guadalupe River. The view is nice but not overly impressive, I preferred being right next to the river on the Cedar Sage River Trail. The Cedar Sage River Trail goes right along the river and has beautiful views throughout. This is also where youâll find beach areas to enter the river.

Texas was at war again after the . At this time, blacks comprised 30 percent of the state’s population, and they were overwhelmingly enslaved. When was elected, South Carolina seceded from the Union. Five other quickly followed. A state convention considering secession opened in Austin on January 28, 1861. On February 1, by a vote of 1668, the convention adopted an from the United States. Texas voters approved this Ordinance on February 23, 1861. Texas joined the newly created Confederate States of America on March 4, 1861, ratifying the permanent on March 23.
Not all Texans favored secession initially, although many of the same would later support the Southern cause. Texas’s most notable was the state Governor, . Not wanting to aggravate the situation, Houston refused two offers from President Lincoln for Union troops to keep him in office. After refusing to swear an oath of allegiance to the Confederacy, Houston was deposed as governor. Around 2,000 Texans served in the , with a large contingent of recent immigrants in being a Unionist stronghold.

A Typical Texas Outsider Day:
After a good breakfast of eggs, bacon, and hashbrowns cooked outdoors , we’ll jump on the mountain bikes to ride one or all of the trails, which usually depends upon how late we stayed up playing games. The trails are easy to moderate with a couple steep climbs but hard enough to build up a sweat which makes soaking in the river very refreshing after a fun ride.
As mentioned earlier, it’s not easy to get to the river from the sites, so we usually drive to the picnic areas to spend an afternoon cooking hot dogs, burgers, or chicken and playing in the river. The swimming area has a nice flat river bottom and the water is clear, clean, and cool. I’ve heard mixed reviews on fishing, mostly not positive.
This is not a bad stretch of river to spend a relaxing afternoon tubing with friends and family. If you don’t want to run your own shuttle service, you can call Bergheim Campground & River Outfitters and they will pick you up at the park, rent you tubes, and take you up river for a float back to Guadalupe River RV Park. Good time!

Guadalupe River State Park Visit Recap
Just north of San Antonio rests this state park along four miles of the Guadalupe River. So first and foremost, if the water levels allow, this is a great water hole for a day trip. You can plop your stuff down by the water and enjoy varying depths, great views of rock walls, and have plenty of room to move around.
When I visited the park in 2018 there was a water restriction, so water fountains, bathrooms, etc did not have water, so during the summer please call ahead to see what current restrictions may be in place.

Hiking Bauer Unit At Guadalupe River State Park
While all of our camping gear dried in the sun, and before the true heat of the day kicked in, we set off to explore the Bauer Unit of Guadalupe River State Park. We chose to drive to Bauer Unit, however after the fact we realized we could have hiked in by crossing the river. This option would have lead us to explore several different trails we did not hike on this visit.
The Bauer Unit is an area of the park we had not hiked on our previous visit to the park. The trails in this unit did not disappoint! The hiking was gorgeous and very representative of the Texas Hill Country. We explored Hofheinz Trail and the Bauer Trail totaling about 2 miles of hiking.
From Hofheinz Trail, if you make a right and continue to the end of Bauer trail there is a treat for you! An awesome pebble beach in the middle of the Guadalupe River. A great spot to cool off mid hike, which Winter really appreciated! Also on Bauer trail is the Bauer House dating back to 1878. The historic site is protected within the park and still has a working windmill and water well on site.

With limited time before the heat of the day and an hour of hiking time burned thanks to the morning thunderstorm we did not get to hike as much as we would have liked. To avoid the heat we headed back to camp for a quick lunch and to take so well deserved mid-day naps. Afterwards we joined the other HTX Outdoors members and enjoyed the river some more.
Guadalupe River State Park Campgrounds
There are a total of 85 campsites within Guadalupe River State Park itself fit for RV campers. Prices start at $20 per night for spots with electrical hookups and $15 per night for spots without them all spots require a minimum of two nights of camping. While you’re here, you can enjoy things like showers and restrooms within walking distance, a fire ring at every site, grills to cook out with, picnic tables, good reception on all your devices and plenty more. You can even bring your pet to stay with you.

Camping At Guadalupe River State Park
This trip was reserved by my outdoors group HTX Outdoors as a DIY camping trip, so my Dad, Winter and I were joined by another member of the group for the weekend. We reserved campsite #86 in the Wagon Fork Walk-in Campground. Let me just say I cannot recommend this particular site enough. It had shade over the tent pad and next to it. The space at the site was open and large as well.
Fajita dinner on the first night of camping
We were just camping for two nights. So when we arrived on Friday we set up camp and enjoyed dinner and the campfire. The next morning the weather Gods were not in our favor. A small but very powerful thunderstorm made its way directly over Guadalupe River State Park. Rain-flys are great for a light shower or keeping the morning dew out, but this storm was no match. Nearly everything in the tent got drenched. Luckily the storm passed quickly and within 10 minutes it was sunny out. We were able to hang drying lines and let the Texas heat do its job. Everything was dry by lunchtime that day.
A word of warning to anyone camping at Guadalupe River State Park. The raccoons here live up to their bandit reputation. They are EVIL! We packed all of our food away for the nights and secured it well. Several other campsites were not so lucky and the raccoons opened their coolers and food bins. So treat camping here like you would camping in bear country! Lock up your food well and clean up after meals to keep the raccoons away.

Things To Do In Boerne Texas
Boerne has a population of about 18,000 and is a charming hill country town with a great mix of local shops, nature parks and restaurants. The town was founded in 1849 by German colonists and is full of history. It is the home to the second oldest courthouse building in Texas and to a western town that is often used in movies .
Boerne is a great place to combine with your visit to Guadalupe River, as the two are only 20 minutes apart.
Boerne is really pleasant and a great alternative to more popular and touristy towns like Fredericksburg. It is small but still has a lot to do!

Inside Guadalupe River State Park is a veritable wonderland of fun just waiting for you. Some of the most popular activities revolve around the Guadalupe River itself. That means a large chunk of your time will likely be spent mingling with other visitors as you fish, swim, canoe, tube or otherwise enjoy the crystal-clear water and warm sun. Hiking and mountain biking are also fairly popular, the latter of which is allowed on the horse trails in addition to normal equestrian activities. Bird-watching and animal spotting are also fun given the diverse wildlife in the area.

- Amenities: we are looking for lots of amenities like restrooms, dump stations, playgrounds, boat ramps, shelters, concession stand, rental toys, and more.
- Campsites: low scores are given for sites that are right next to each other have no lantern holder, no water or electricity, no fire pit, no grill, or no picnic table have no trees and no view the ground cover is crushed rock and they require a lot of work to get your rig level.

PARK HUNT DATES:Nov. 11-13, Jan 6-8, 2023The entire park including Honey Creek and the Bauer Unit, will be closed from 8pm the night before the first day of the hunt until Noon the day after the last day of the hunt.
May 13, 2022 – Burn ban in effect until further notice. No ash-producing fires, including wood or charcoal, are allowed. Containerized fuel stoves are allowed for cooking only.
When the park reaches maximum capacity, it will close to day-use visitors. Closures are common on holidays and on weekends . If you are planning to visit for the day, please arrive early and have a back-up plan in case of a closure. Entering Guadalupe River State Park
After making the trip to Guadalupe River State Park, you should find the park’s entrance in the form of a gate guarding TX P31 on the left-hand side of the road. The park is open from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for day use. Entering will cost $7 per adult with free admission to anyone 12 and under.
