Where To Stay If Campgrounds Are Full Or The Weather Is Bad

Gold Ranch RV Resort near Reno, Nevada

One of the things that can easily throw a wrench into your camping plans, particularly if you are tent camping, are heavy winds, which tend to crop up from time to time around Las Vegas. Even on sunny days, you can sometimes see winds of 50 to 80 miles per hour, and this can wreak havoc on tents.

If you want to temporarily abandon your camping plans, you can find reasonably priced accommodation in Las Vegas. Prices vary greatly depending on whether or not major conventions or events are taking place in the city during your stay.

  • If you want to step up a level and treat yourself, The Palazzo at the Venetian Resort offers spacious suites and luxury amenities, but is also usually quite affordable.
  • Budget Hotels: For budget hotels, your best option is to avoid the Las Vegas Strip and find a hotel 10 to 15 minutes away. One of the best budget hotels, which also has a little character, is the Main Street Station Hotel, near the downtown Fremont Street area. This economical train-themed hotel offers comfortable and spacious rooms. If you really want to be on the Strip, try the trendy LINQ Hotel, with smaller rooms but a prime location near the Ferris wheel on the LINQ.

A terrific enroute stop on 395 near Reno. Concrete pad pull-throughs long enough to avoid unhitching, hookups well located, clean facilities. The adjacent casino/store/restaurant opened at 6:00 with $3.99 early-bird specials so generous the leftovers made the next days breakfast. Dont Forget These Tips When Planning Your Trip To One Of The Hot Springs

1. Dress accordingly. Some hot springs require a little walk or hike after parking the car. If the plan is to stay later into the night, bring a set of warmer clothes. And while were on the subject of clothes, it is also important to note that most hot springs are in remote places. This means that there is not a dress code, and some may take advantage of that for a nude soak.

2. A lot of people are out looking for adventure and a chance to experience the springs, share the space.

3. Just like anywhere else, leave the area cleaner than when you found it. Our planet needs our help. Be respectful to the land and future visitors.

4. Some springs on private property. This does not mean that they cannot be visited but pay close attention when there are no trespassing signs

5. Some hot springs can be difficult to get to without a bigger vehicle. A lot of them require at least a short drive on dirt roads.

6. The temperature of the hot springs is ever changing. Because they are naturally-fed, there is no guarantee that they will be cool enough to get in. Some hot springs have seriously burned or even killed people and their pets so always check the temperature beforehand.

Water sports, hiking trails, and the glorious stretches of beach that line the cobalt blue waters and turquoise bays of Lake Tahoe make it a dream destination for summer camping in California. Daytime temperatures are not oppressively hot, and nights are wonderful for sitting around a campfire.

South Lake Tahoe is one of the most popular areas around the lake. You can find private, city-operated, and government-run campgrounds. Some have only a dozen campsites or less others can accommodate 200 to 300 tents and RVs.

Campgrounds only operate from spring until fall, usually from mid-May to mid-October, but some campgrounds may have a more limited season depending on the year and conditions.

Pets and camping in the Lake Tahoe area dont mix well. Many of the commercial operations do not accept pets. In the state parks, dogs are not allowed on any of the trails or beaches, but they are allowed in some of the campgrounds on a leash.

For details on camping, see our list of the best campgrounds at South Lake Tahoe.
