Free Camping At Valley Of Fire

A Tour & Review of ARCH ROCK CAMPGROUND | VALLEY OF FIRE STATE PARK, Nevada

The Valley of Fire camping fees are quite reasonable and staying overnight in the park is cheaper than staying at a nearby hotel.

However, if youre looking for free camping near the Valley of Fire, you have some options. You could camp in Valley of Fires BLM territory at the parks overflow site, about six miles from the western entrance. Intended for use when the other campgrounds are full, this area is managed by the Bureau of Land Management. While it can get windy, the ground is flat and can accommodate all types of RVs.

Another option is Valley of Fire backcountry camping, although youll be further from the park and its campground amenities. For example, you can find dispersed camping near Valley of Fire around the Lake Mead National Recreation Area.

Costs And Paid Camping Information

If you want to stay at the Valley of Fire Park, camping is your only option. Both campgrounds are first-come, first-serve. We were a little nervous about that, but there were always a couple of sites available until mid-afternoon.

We stayed at the Atlatl Campground at site 1. This was a great spot with lots of rock climbing options it exceeded our Valley of Fire camping expectations. We were also a few minutes hike near one of the panels of petroglyphs. The reality is that all the sites are pretty great, although some have less space we had a ton of space.

The Atlatl Campground has showers and flush toilets. There are 44 campsites and about half are RV hook-up sites. There is a water faucet in each site , a covered picnic table, fire ring, and tent pad. There is also a dump station just before entering the campground.

Arch Rock Campground is a smaller, more primitive tent campground. The sites here are more secluded.

There are three group areas, each accommodating up to 45 people, though parking is limited. They are available for overnight camping and picnicking by reservation only. Call the park for reservations: 1-702-397-2088 or click the link here to make reservations online.

Campsites are $20 per night which includes the $10 daily park entrance fee

Valley Of Fire Wildlife

Because of the areas warm summer temperatures and its rock and desert topography, most of the animals that live in and around Valley of Fire are nocturnal. Snakes, lizards, coyotes, bobcats, badgers, fox, jackrabbits, skunks, and antelope ground squirrels all reside in Valley of Fire State Park. Its rare to see a desert tortoise, as they burrow underground for protection from the sun and cold. If youre lucky, youll see Nevadas state animal, the Desert Bighorn Sheep!

Reported Sighting of Non-Native Snake

Park District staff has been notified that on Sunday, February 13, a hiker spotted a non-native snake, presumed to be a ball python, on the side of Big Bear Trail in Anthony Chabot Regional Park. The snake has not been seen since the original sighting.

The snake is not venomous and is not a threat to the public. The snake may be in danger as it is not native to our Bay Area climate, which is much colder than its native habitat of warm tropical forests or grasslands. EBRPD staff is keeping an eye out for it. If it is found, the staff will work with the Oakland Zoo to assess its health and determine proper long-term placement.

If you spot the snake, please contact Anthony Chabot Regional Park staff at 690-6676 or our non-emergency Public Safety line at 881-1833. If possible, take a photo and map the sighting. It is safest for both visitors and the snake if you do not approach it or try to capture it.

Abandoning any animals in Regional Parks is illegal. It can be harmful, both to the native species of plants and animals in the parks, as well as the animal being released.

This is one of our favorite spots even after almost a year of boondock camping full time. We stayed here mid April 2018 for about 5 days and had the entire place to ourselves as far as the eye could see! Only a handful of day users came through, and most kept their distance . The weekend however, brought droves of campers. If you prefer total privacy, then maybe avoid weekends. There are wild donkeys, wild horses, and a stray bull. The animals kept their distance as well. The water was warm and pretty clean. The road to the site is a 6 mile dirt road with some soft sand spots.
