Campgrounds In Yosemite With Rv Hookups
There are no electrical or water/sewer hookups in any of the campgrounds in Yosemite. There are three dump stations located within park boundaries. The dump stations are in the Pines Campgrounds, Tuolumne Meadows and Wawona. Wawona is open only during the summer season.
Generator use is heavily restricted in all Yosemite campgrounds. Generators can be used from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m., noon to 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
All campgrounds have either flush or vault toilets and drinking water available. The only public showers are located in the Yosemite Valley at either Curry Village or Housekeeping Camp.
Goat Meadow Trailhead And Snow Play Dispersed Camping
Distance to Yosemite: 1.5 miles to South Entrance Restrooms: NoMap
For an easy and convenient option for dispersed camping near Yosemite National Park look no further than the Goat Meadow Trailhead/Snow Play parking lot just off Highway 41. While this isnt the typical dispersed camping found deep in a national forest, this trailhead parking lot is just 1.5 miles from Yosemites South Entrance.
This is also a great option for those traveling in an RV or larger trailer as the parking area is fairly large and can accommodate quite a few set-ups.
Although this is also a trailhead, you wont find any restrooms or water source here so please come prepared. Additionally, plan to pack out all of your trash even if you find a dumpster there. This isnt mean to serve campers, so isnt emptied frequently enough to serve everyone who stays here.
Rv Campgrounds Near The Tioga Pass Entrance Of Yosemite
Mono Vista RV Park
Located close to Yosemite as well as other attractions such as Mono Lake and the Bodie Ghost Town, Mono Vista RV Park is a great place to explore the Sierras. The campground is open from April 1 to November 1.
Golden Pine RV Park
Located 32 miles from the Tioga Pass entrance, Golden Pine RV Park offers access to Yosemite as well as the community of June Lake. Here you will find lake access, a marina, and a brewery. Pets and rigs of all sizes are welcome.

When To Dispersed Camp Near Yosemite National Park
The camping season at Yosemite is generally limited to the summer months of May September. Outside of those months camping may still be possible, but youll need to come prepared for snow and cold weather.
During the peak summer months of July and August is when youll find the park and surrounding national forests the most crowded. Be prepared for long lines to get into Yosemite and plan to arrive early to any of the dispersed camping areas in this guide to secure a site.
For those with a bit of flexibility September can be a wonderful time to plan a dispersed camping trip near Yosemite. Youll find the park much less crowded and have your pick of camping areas.
Camping Around Tioga Pass
If you want to get up into the high Sierras on the east side of Yosemite, the Inyo National Forest is the place to go.
Not all campgrounds in the Inyo National Forest are close to the national park, but Sawmill Walk-In Camp, Ellery Lake, Big Bend, and Tioga Lake are. They’re all in the very high country near Tioga Pass. Like other national forest campgrounds, expect minimal facilities and vault toilets. Check to find out whether the campground you choose has running water – you might have to bring your own.

Tents And Cabins At Curry Village
Although it’s more expensive than bringing your own equipment and renting a campsite, you can rent canvas tent cabins or small, rustic cabins at Curry Village.
A total of 319 cabins are available. They are closely spaced but are in a great location.
Each tent cabin has a wooden floor, cot-style beds, and light, and some have propane heat available from fall until spring. The tents do not have electrical outlets. The tents are fully outfitted with linens and blankets. Washrooms and showers are just a short walk away, and daily housekeeping is included.
Rustic wooden cabins are outfitted in a similar fashion. Of the 70 available, 56 have running water and bathrooms. All have heat and electrical outlets. For those 14 cabins without bathrooms, showers and washrooms are shared with the nearby tent campers. These cabins also come with daily housekeeping service.
Where To Stay Near Yosemite If You Can’t Secure A Campsite
- El Portal: Along Highway 140, not far from the park gates, and about 30 minutes from the main attractions of Yosemite Valley, is the small community of El Portal. This makes a good base for day tripping to the park. One of the best-value options here is the Yosemite Cedar Lodge, with suites that come with full kitchens and separate bedrooms. The lodge also has an indoor pool. Another option is the family-friendly Yosemite View Lodge, with indoor and outdoor pools.
- Oakhurst: If you are coming from Fresno, along Highway 41, you can find some good accommodation around the town of Oakhurst. Two of the most popular hotels are the Best Western Plus Yosemite Gateway Inn and the Yosemite Southgate Hotel & Suites. Both of these are about a 1.5-hour drive from Yosemite Valley.
- Highway 120 and Groveland: About 50 minutes west of the valley on Highway 120 is the Rush Creek Lodge at Yosemite, with a large outdoor pool, restaurant, games room, and rooms or suites with balconies. For a more moderately priced option, continue on to Groveland and check out The Groveland Hotel.

Best Campgrounds At Yosemite National Park

Yosemite National Park covers a large area, but the most spectacular section of the park is Yosemite Valley. This relatively small portion of the park is open year-round, and home to the most famous attractions, including Yosemite Falls, Half Dome, and El Capitan. If you can secure a campsite at one of the campgrounds in this area, it will save you an incredible amount of driving time.
At the far end of the valley, near Curry Village , and not far from Yosemite Village, are three fabulous campgrounds: Lower Pines, Upper Pines, and North Pines. All three of these are clumped together in close proximity to one another.
The only other campground in the valley is the tent-only Camp 4, with a long history as a base for climbers.
Still within the park, about an hour’s drive west of Yosemite Village, but on two different roads, are Wawona Campground and Hodgdon MeadowCampground. A number of small first-come, first-served campgrounds are found along the Tioga Road and a few other locations around the park.
On the east side of the Tioga Pass is Tuolumne Meadows Campground. From November until May or June, when the Tioga Road is closed, there is no access to the Yosemite Valley from this campground.

Lake Mcclure / Lake Mcswain
At an elevation of 867 feet, sun-splashed Merced River fed Lake McClure and adjacent Lake McSwain are nestled in the oak-studded Sierra foothills on the western edge of Mariposa County. Lake McClure was created in 1926 and named for Wilbur F. McClure, the State of Californias head engineer . The dam was rebuilt in 1967, creating a horseshoe-shaped lake featuring 80 miles of shoreline rich in recreational options.

Lake McClure offers four campgrounds McClure Point, Barrett Cove, Horseshoe Bend and Bagby each with its own features, amenities and vibe . Nearby Exchequer Mountain Bike Park offers 700 acres of technical descents and creative features for riders of all abilities.
Barrett Cove Campground: with 249 camp & RV sites, Barrett Cove is located on Lake McClures western shore with splendid stands of shade trees. The largest of the campgrounds, it features multiple boat ramps, a protected swim/play area with an attached pavilion, barbecue pits, café, store and rentable park cabins. One of the most important considerations when dispersed camping is to follow Leave No Trace principles. This will minimize your impact and ensure your campsite can be enjoyed by future visitors. Here are the seven principles of Leave No Trace camping:
- Plan Ahead & Prepare: Have an idea of where youd like to camp and always be sure you are camping in an area that permits dispersed camping.
- Travel & Camp on Durable Surfaces: Never camp on fragile ground or create a new campsite.
- Dispose of waste properly: Pack out all of your trash and bury human waste away from water sources. Ideally, carry out human waste or use a portable toilet.
- Leave what you find: Never take anything from your campsite. Other than trash of course!
- Minimize campfire impacts: Never create new fire rings and only have fires if permitted.
- Respect Wildlife: Properly store food at all times and be aware of the areas wildlife.
- Be considerate of Other Visitors: Pack out your trash, dont be loud, and leave your campsite in better condition than you found it.
