This compact was designed to remove barriers to educational success faced by children of military families because of frequent moves and deployment of their parents. This program:

  • Facilitates the timely enrollment of children of military families and ensures that they are not placed at a disadvantage due to difficulty in the transfer of educational records from the previous school district or variations in entrance or age requirements.
  • Facilitates the student placement process through which children of military families are not disadvantaged by variations in attendance requirements, scheduling, sequencing, grading, course content or assessment
  • Facilitates the qualification and eligibility for enrollment, educational programs, and participation in extracurricular academic, athletic and social activities
  • Facilitates the on-time graduation of children of military families
  • Provides for the uniform collection and sharing of information between and among member states, schools and military families
  • Promotes coordination between this compact and other compacts affecting military children
  • Promotes flexibility and cooperation between the educational system, parents and the student in order to achieve educational success for the student

Nice topic! As another V.A. 100%er as well as a Floridian resident I’ve heard with my Florida state park pass State park camping was free??? Have yet to see this…Florida does also give free fishing/hunting license which I enjoy gratefully! It’s also gotten me outta drama from FWC as they give “silent shake” pretty fast as long as you’re not doing anything wrong to those presenting papers as opposed to those without disabled veteran credentials…in Florida they’ll take you to jail for fishing without a license, much less doing stupid stuff…Natl parks disabled pass saved me hundreds, or hundred a year as I’d buy an annual if uncle sugar didn’t provide me one as a perk. Never gotten a discount on camping as I’ve only bicycle toured/camped thru natl parks, which is $5 a nite at most natl parks for bicyclists.California Monterey veterans park gives a 1/3 discount on camping, it shares fence with defense language institute up on the hill, closest camping to downtown Monterey California.

North Dakota Dependent Tuition Waiver

Eligible dependents of certain disabled veterans can obtain a bachelors degree or certificate of completion free of tuition and fee charges at any North Dakota state-supported institution of higher education or technical or vocational school.

The student must be the dependent of a resident veteran who is 100% disabled as a result of service-connected causes, who was killed in action or died from wounds or other service-connected causes, or who died from service-connected disabilities.

The diploma must be earned within a 45-month or 10-semester period or its equivalent.

Direct Professional Licensing For Military Experience

Veterans leave military service with a wealth of transferable skills and professional experiences. Thanks to an Oregon law passed in 2012, you may be able to attain official accreditation for those skills in the civilian workforce.

The program, designed to quickly get service members back to work after serving in the military, requires certain professional licensing agencies and boards in Oregon to accept military training or experience as an allowable substitution for traditional civilian education or experience required for licensure, certification or registration. That means veterans in certain fields dont need to go back to school for training they have already received in the military.

Certain professions may have special requirements that must be met in addition to military education or experience.

National Park Access Pass

To qualify, the person must have a diagnosed permanent disability. If someone in your family qualifies, there are a couple of ways you can obtain this. One is that you can go to a participating location and apply for it in person.

Before you go to one of those NPS locations, make sure you read what you need to bring with you as far as documentation. It will either have to be a note from a physician or notice that you are receiving SSDI income.

You can also apply via the mail, which is nice. DO NOT use this option if you need your pass in 15 days or less. What you are applying for is called an Access Pass.

    A Q& A with Justin Russell

    Justin and Michelle Russell

Justin Russell is a disabled veteran who served in the US Army and completed three tours in Afghanistan. After his service, he worked for the US governments Counterdrug Program and fought wildfires for the US Forest Service. After many years apart from his family, he now enjoys traveling in his Thor Motor Coach Hurricane with his wife Michelle, their kids, Jude and Jade, and the family pups, Dude and Belle.

Were the Russells, a family of four who have been traveling full-time in our RV for more than two years. But it wasnt always this way.

I spent years in the U.S. Army, doing three tours in Afghanistan that kept me away from my family for more than 30 months. Even after I retired from the Army, my work in the Counterdrug Program and for the U.S. Forest Service continued taking me away from home. With each deployment, my physical and mental health suffered, and the kids felt a little more disconnected from their dad. I missed so many firsts with the kids and it only added to my growing depression. Every time I came home from deployment or for a break, I struggled with the transition back into civilian life.
