What People Are Saying About Gold Country Casino Rv Park

We spent two months here in the RV Park. It is a nice quiet Park. Its very small and has several long-term residents but they are just mostly hard-working miners you come home and go to bed. The showers are top quality something like you would find in a hotel room. that is my favorite part about the RV park as this is probably the cleanest and best showers Ive ever experienced. What People Are Saying About South Fork State Recreation Area

BLM North Wildhorse Campground, Elko, NV

The view of the stars at night is gorgeous from this park. So glad we stayed out here instead of next to the freeway on our way through. Plus, it was quiet and we got a great nights sleep. The park list points because of the poorly designed showers that get the entire cubicle wet. There arent any benches. One press of the button lasts 15 seconds. All lights are on timers. The price is great! $14 for a site. Tesha, Google Review

Tent Camping Near Th 80

Hello,

me and my girlfriend will be driving from sanfrancisco to yellowstone next month, and are looking for a good place in the middle of nevada off the 80 to camp, seeing as how we wont be able to make it all the way in one shot..

I see there are lots of “rv camping parks” but what about just regular tent camping?

Any suggestions would be awesome!

-nikki

Try the Humbolt National Forest campgrounds, not many RVs will be there. There are sites located in Lamoille canyon which is about 25 miles south of Elko. There are also some sites about 15 miles from Wells at Angel lake. If you want to drive farther your first day there are some campsites in the Sawtooth NF outside of Twin Falls, ID.

If you haven’t been to Lamoille canyon it is well worth the little bit of extra driving. Its also much cooler sleeping at night at the higher elevation.

Dispersed Camping Vs Developed Campgrounds

There are two main types of camping in the state: developed campgrounds and dispersed camping.

Developed campgrounds typically have amenities for campers that can include a camping area with fire rings, bathrooms, RV parking, and more. These types of campgrounds are typically not free as campers will need to pay to use the facilities.

On the other hand, dispersed camping is a more primitive way of camping. If you want to connect with nature and get some fresh air and solitude, this may be the preferred option.

Much of Nevadas BLM managed lands are available for dispersed camping. There are no fees associated with this type of camping, so this is an excellent option for those seeking free camping in Nevada. There are a few rules that campers will need to abide by, however:

  • Limit the days spent in one location. Campers cannot stay in the same spot on public land for more than 14 days within a 28 day period. After the two week period, you will need to move at least 25 miles away. You can return to your original campsite after another 14 days if you like.
  • Practice the “Leave No Trace Seven Principles.” Campers have the responsibility to leave an area just as they found it . This means to pack up and haul away all trash, choosing to camp on durable, hard surfaces, respect wildlife, and minimize the effects of any campfires you may have.

Elko District BLM in Nevada

Camp Nevada: Im talking with Blane and Leslie today. Were talking about camping in Nevada, specifically one of the Bureau of Land Management areas known as the Elko District. Blane and Leslie, hows it going today?

Blane: Doing well.

Camp Nevada: So, can you tell our listeners what Northeast Nevada is like? If I want to come camping there, lets talk first about the kinds of things I can expect in terms of topography and hiking, and what the general experience of that area is like.

Blane: Well, Northeast Nevada is a typical basin, very basin topography. A lot of sage. Inner with various mountain ranges running north and south typically, especially in this area. Wide, flat valleys with alkaline-based scrub to them. Usually populated by greasewood or some other salt resistant species there.

Elko District

Leslie: I would say if youre not familiar with Nevada, that the Northeastern part of Nevada where were located is very mountainous. It is not what most people would think of Nevada, as being a desert, but out here near Elko its very mountainous. All of our campgrounds are rustic and they all have bolted toilets, but pretty much only one campground has water. The rest of them you need to bring in your own water, packing your own supplies and please pack out your own trash.

Camp Nevada: Okay.

Blane: Yeah, we dont have any trash collection in any of the campgrounds.

Camp Nevada: Okay.

Blane: Fishing.
