Things To Do At Maumee Bay State Park

Swimming and Boating:

This state park offers a plethora of things to do while you enjoy the shores of Lake Erie. Youre on the lake so what comes to mind first? Boating and Swimming are the top two things for me. The state park features two sand beaches, one on the Lake Erie shore and the second along the parks inland lake. These beach areas are large and have ample parking for you to use. We enjoy lazing on the shores listening to the waves of the gorgeous lake hit the sand.

Id say this is one of my favorite beaches along the shores of the Northeast region of Lake Erie. Beach area access offers bathrooms and changing areas for you to use while you are there. It makes getting those sandy kids cleaned off easy before heading back to the campsite.

Boating here is excellent and the Maumee State Park has a 32-slip marina on Lake Erie. You can rent a boat and try your hand at navigating a course on Lake Erie or you can head over to the 57-acre inland lake inside the park. This inland lake is suitable for sailing, canoeing, and other non-motorized boat use and there is a life jacket loaner board located here for your convenience.

FISHING on Lake Erie:

PLEASE NOTE: A valid Ohio fishing license is required for adults.

Amenities At Maumee Bay

Maumee Bay SP campground has a good number of restrooms throughout the campground. They are well kept and offer flushing toilets, sinks, and showers. The shower stalls are nice sized and were very clean while we were there. Water pressure was good and has warm water for most of your shower.

We were very impressed with the updated and easy-to-use sewage dump station. They have provided hoses, trash receptacles, and water at the location for you. Here in this area you can find the potable water fill-up station and can restock your water tank. It is all located in one area, making it easy to take care of these needed items.

Camp Store

The camp store is well stocked with items that you might need while you are camping. I took a look around and if you forgot your smores kit, they have you covered. They also carry your basic needs, like milk, eggs, and BACON! The store is located right as you enter the campground inside the area where you register.

Amenities At the Lodge

Maumee Bay Lodge is located a short drive away, there you can use the indoor pool for $8.00 per person or check out the other amenities there in the lodge. The restaurant is quite nice and has stunning views of the lake, we have enjoyed many cups of coffee there while we watched the waves. The recreation areas include a game room, racquetball courts, playgrounds, and an outdoor pool area.

About Maumee Bay State ParkMaumee Bay State Park is a tribute to Lake Erie. This precious gift is one of the largest bodies of fresh water in the world and it reflects the diverse natural heritage of Ohio.

The history of Lake Erie began with the glacial period known as the Pleistocene. Massive sheets of ice gouged and scoured the bedrock of Ohio. Testimony of the ices force is found throughout the lake area. Small scratches in the rock surface known as glacial striations are common, while major grooves are rare but awesome.

Welcome To Maumee Bay State Park

where each generous RV site features a solid asphalt pad, a fire pit with a grill and an electrical hook-up. Most of the sites are well off the wide paved loop road, making it easy to keep pets and toddlers a safe distance from traffic.

Dense shrubbery mostly indigenous forms a natural blind to other campsites. Due to our low profile Airstream and the thick foliage we lost our way more than once while walking back to our campsite. The natural landscape also functions as noise barrier.

Even filled to weekend capacity the park was quiet. On weekdays the isolation was bliss so we played our annoying old-people music outside on our Bose and no one complained.

Maumee Bay is as clean as Disneyland.

Everything is raked, mown and trash free. The complimentary yard service team did a great job keeping our perfectly level, lush green lawn maintained.

And we were thrilled how brilliantly our new Quickset Clam Shelter with outdoor panels in place held up like a champ in twenty mile per hour winds with thirty mile per hour gusts. Our bikes, outdoor equipment and even our tablecloth were perfectly safe and dry.

Our Experience At Maumee Bay State Park Campground

Camping at Maumee Bay State park

This was one of the best campgrounds we have been to. The lots were spacious and there was plenty of privacy. The blacktop spots were wide and long.

As for the cell service. Many people complain that the service is horrible. However, we have Verizon and had decent service throughout the park.

The Ohio State Park was very clean. It was very rare to see a piece of trash anywhere. They also kept all the grass cut.

How Are The Sites At Maumee State Park

The sites at Maumee State Park are AMAZING and we loved them. They are spacious, beautiful, and private, making this a great place to camp! Each site has ample bushes, mature trees, and plenty of greenery outlining the side and back of your site. We felt this made the site very protected and quiet! There is a lot of sunshine on your site since the trees are maturing and growing there, most sites look like they are partial or full sun.

Pulling into the site was easy enough. All the sites here at Maumee Bay campground are back in but there is good space between sites to get your unit backed in nicely. Sites here are blacktopped and fairly level, we had to use a few leveling blocks to raise one side up.

The site we had was 210. I chose this one because it was near the bathroom and it had a very nice level paved pad. ALL the sites here at Maumee Bay have a picnic table and firepit for you to use during your trip. Sites are electric only, offering 30/50 amp, so make sure you bring water containers for toting this precious commodity.
