Intro To Camping World/good Sam Ambassador Program
Camping World/Good Sam Ambassadors serve as Camping World’s #1 contact with our customers in campgrounds, at RV shows and RV rallies. Ambassadors distribute Camping World flyers and promotional materials to local campgrounds during a 5-day time period each month.
They develop friendly relationships and build good rapport with both campground management and RVers. Ambassadors sometimes sponsor events held at local campgrounds.
At local rallies and RV trade shows, the Ambassadors set up a booth and distribute flyers, catalogs and other Camping World promotional materials.
Ambassadors’ assignments are seasonally-based, with seasons varying between 5 to 6 months. Most Ambassadors cover one store during the summer months and another store in the winter months.
Ambassadors are considered Camping World Independent Contractors. As such, they are reimbursed for mileage, campground fees and other Ambassador-related expenses. In addition, they are paid a modest monthly stipend. Ambassadors also enjoy free memberships in the Good Sam Club and Roadside Assistance, plus they receive merchandise discounts.
A friendly, outgoing personality is very much welcomed! This program is fun and a great way to meet many other people involved in RVing.

Thats because last year the companys leadership orchestrated a significant shift in its business model, one in which Camping World pivoted away from locations where we did not have the ability or where it was not feasible to sell and/or service RVs, said Lemonis, chairman and CEO.
The Lincolnshire, IL-based company closed or sold more than 60 such locations, primarily those under the Gander Outdoors banner. That move took a toll on 2019 results, causing some short-term revenue and earnings pressure. But as Camping World turns the page on its retail model and refocuses on its core RV business, the company appears better positioned for 2020 and beyond.
After almost two months into the year, we are very encouraged with the results weve seen so far, Lemonis, pictured left, told analysts on Thursdays earnings call. Demand is better, margins are better, and our customer and employee experience is better.
Lemonis added that the Strategic Shift, as Camping World dubbed the rightsizing plan, was both swift and effective.
The shift indeed had an impact on 2019 results, specifically in the fourth quarter. Camping World reported a fourth-quarter loss of $80.9 million, or 89 cents per share, on a revenue decline of 1.8 percent to $964.9 million. EPS missed Wall Streets targets by 59 cents and revenue was shy $45.1 million.
In other words, theres much more to be written in Camping Worlds evolving story.
Camping World Enough Said

Camping World seems to jack up the prices on every product in their stores by 20-30%. Theyll only match online pricing if you sign up for a membership .

Retail As A Side Business
Gander Mountain and Overton’s were acquired out of bankruptcy in April of 2017, and were arguably the first stops on Camping World’s retail acquisition route. Gander Mountain rebranded as Gander Outdoors in December of the same year and started opening stores, with plans for between 55 and 65 within the year and 40 Gander RV sales locations by the spring of 2019.
To date, Gander Outdoors has 59 open locations, with four “coming soon,” according to the company’s website, an aggressive opening strategy considering the circumstances, Dennis Cantalupo, president at Pulse Ratings, told Retail Dive in an interview.
“Operationally, the old Gander Mountain they struggled,” he said. “They were always kind of, tight margins, the merchandising wasn’t always ideal. It was a curious acquisition, in my opinion, because of the issues that Gander had already had.”
Cantalupo also noted that Camping World initially closed all existing Gander Mountain stores after buying the retailer, an unusual move in an acquisition, even one out of bankruptcy. In fact, bankrupt retailers are usually quick to announce that their stores will remain open for the duration of their restructuring, a reassurance of sorts to customers that the company hasn’t gone out of business.

Storing Your Rv In General Self
Just about every self-storage facility has some outdoor fenced area that they dedicate to long-term storage of RVs, boats, and other vehicles. This is usually the cheapest option, but it generally doesnt come with any RV-specific services.
This means its your responsibility to prep your RV for storage. Research must-have products for storing your RV and set a schedule to check on your camper periodically while its in storage.
Another thing to keep in mind with general self-storage is access to your RV. Make sure you find a facility that offers 24/7 access to your RV just in case you spontaneously decide to hit the road for a long weekend.

Camping World Holdings Inc. plans to aggressively expand its national footprint through the opening of 20 or more new greenfield locations over the next three calendar years, in addition to acquisitions.
Americas largest retailer of recreational vehicles and related products and services continues to search for locations in key markets. Sites in progress include San Martin, Calif Georgetown, Del Daytona Beach, Fla. Kansas City, Kan. Birch Run, Chesterfield, and Lansing, Mich. Upper Michigan Rv Retailers Reopen As Camping World Supercenters
The two locations are the former Hilltop RV Superstore locations, which were acquired by Camping World in May this year.
LINCOLNSHIRE, Ill. – Camping World Holdings, Inc. announced Friday the grand opening of its RV and outdoor dealerships in Escanaba and Ishpeming.
Grand opening events will be held throughout next weekend at the two Camping World SuperCenters located at 2905 North Lincoln Road in Escanaba and 600 US-41 West in Ishpeming.
The two locations are the former Hilltop RV Superstore locations, which were acquired by Camping World in May this year.
Michigan is consistently a strong market for the RV and outdoor enthusiast, said Marcus Lemonis, CEO and Chairman of Camping World Holdings said in a March press relese. This acquisition expands our reach into the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and allows us to bring our assortment closer to the consumer to fulfill their needs.
The company now has a total of six locations in Michigan.
The grand opening celebration begins on Friday, July 23 and will run through Sunday, July 25, featuring special deals on new 2021 RVs and huge discounts on a variety of RV and outdoor gear.
Customers are encouraged to visit during the Grand Opening weekend to receive special gift incentives.

Storing Your Rv On Your Property
Storing your RV in your driveway or on a bit of land is the obvious choice. Its also a very affordable option and it makes it easy to check on your RV regularly. If youre going to keep your RV in your yard, you should use an RV cover to protect it from the four-season elements.
Before putting your cover on, however, clean your RV from top to bottom and prepare your RV tires for storage. If youre storing your coach during the winter, youll also need to winterize your RV correctly to prevent freezing temperatures from doing damage.
Keep in mind that some neighborhoods have regulations that prohibit storing recreational vehicles on your property. So here are a few other options if you cant store your RV on your property.

Should Outdoor Retailers Worry
Acquisition has long been a strategy for entering a different, perhaps complementary sector of retail. Recently, that’s manifested itself in big retailers like Walmart and Amazon buying up category or service expertise, including companies like Eloquii, Ring and Flipkart. Other retailers in the space have also forged forward-looking deals, including Macy’s acquisition of Story, which came at a time when the retailer was exploring shop-in-shop formats as a new way to approach the department store.
The question with Camping World is how seriously the company is about entering the outdoors space, and what it plans to do with a slew of niche retailers, one that sells snowboarding gear, another that is nearly exclusive to the Midwest and yet another that had to file for Ch. 11 in its first life. A case could be made that these retailers sell products that are tangential to Camping World’s space that someone who snowboards might also be someone who hunts and might also be someone who likes RVs but expanding local retailers is tough work, and selling RVs isn’t the same as selling outdoor apparel and gear.
“I still think there’s plenty of acquisition opportunity in the RV business and that they’re going to continue to be a bigger player there. But in the outdoor category, who are they impacting?” Cantalupo said. “It’s unclear if they’re taking market share away from anybody at this point. They’re certainly trying to gain some scale.”
