Antelope Island is the biggest island on Great Salt Lake and is accessed via a 7-mile causeway from the city of Syracuse, 30 miles north of Salt Lake City. The Antelope Island State Park Visitor Center orients guests to the unique ecology and geology of Great Salt Lake and four campgrounds offer a total of 52 campsites. No water or electricity is available, but sites are roomy enough for RVs. Campground fees are in addition to the parks per vehicle entrance fee.

Antelope Island is best known for its resident herd of buffalo, which can be easily viewed from park trails and scenic viewpoints. The island is also home to antelope, bighorn sheep, coyote, and a huge variety of birdlife. Great Salt Lake is one of the most important habitats for North American migratory birds. Antelope Islands 20 miles of trails are a favorite among local mountain bikers and trail runners and sunsets from White Rock Bay cant be beat. Biting gnats are abundant on the island April through June so visit outside those months for a more pleasant experience.

Its location just north of Salt Lake City makes it an opportune RV park to stay at while exploring the city and the Great Salt Lake area. ture lovers can take daytrips into the surrounding mountains and enjoy the urban amenities nearby when they get back.

Camping In Little Cottonwood And Big Cottonwood Canyons

Little and Big Cottonwood Canyons campsites are available year-round. Reservations, including fees must be made through Recreation.gov. Campgrounds range from primitive sites to areas with potable water and may even include amenities like baseball fields and volleyball courts. Campers in these areas typically enjoy hiking, biking, and fly fishing.

Our Five Best Fishing Spots In Utah

Hubs and I enjoy fishing several times a year. It’s become a tradition for the kids to give the hubs his yearly fishing licence for Father’s day. Utah has 100’s of great places to try your angler skills. Check out UtahFishingInfo.com and UtahFishFinder.com. They are both good for resources for fish conditions, updates on recently stocked ponds and other fishing information. Here’s a few spots that we favor.

1. Flaming Gorge

The Gorge is a local favorite. It’s located on the Utah/Wyoming boarder, in the northeast corner of Utah and the southwest corner of Wyoming, between Green River and Rock Springs, Wyoming all the way into the Uintah Mountains towards Vernal. There are over 100 different areas to fish including beautiful mountain lakes and streams.

The scenery is gorgeous, there’s great activities like hiking, boat rental, farmers markets. While you’re in the area plan a visit to the Dinosaur Museum in Vernal or Fort Bridger. Flaming Gorge has a free travel guide to download here.

Mustang Ridge campground is our favorite place to camp near The Gorge. It’s wooded and offers more seclusion than some of the others.

Details: 70 sites, 1 group site. Each site has a picnic table and fire ring with grate. Some sites have views of the reservoir.

Location:Take US 191 from Vernal, Utah, 51 miles north. Three miles north of Dutch John on US 191, turn west on Forest Road 184 for approximately 2 miles.

Us National & State Parks Nearby Salt Lake City

If you are interested in visiting a national park on your trip, know that there are actually five in Utah, but they are not that close to Salt Lake City. Two of the parks are Capitol Reef National Park and Arches National Park. Both parks are great places to spend the day taking in the beautiful sandstone arches and other rock formations that the land has to offer. Hiking trails are numerous in both parks.

Utah is also home to beautiful state parks, many in and near Salt Lake City, UT. Antelope Island State Park is near Salt Lake City and covers the entire area of Antelope Island, located within the Great Salt Lake in Utah. It is the largest of the ten islands in this region and was made a state park in 1981, now attracting an average of 300,000 visitors annually. RV Camping Near the Salt Flats of Utah

Rocket cars and other high-velocity vehicles often barrel across Utah’s Bonneville Salt Flats at mind-numbing speeds, but have no fear, park your RV and take a jog or hike across this surreal landscape. Remember that this is a desert, so stay hydrated, don’t stray far from the RV and when you get back head to the nearest campground, because you can jog, walk and drive around in designated areas on this 30,000-acre piece of salty desolation all you want during the day, but overnight stays on the flats are prohibited.

Here you will have access to boating, fishing, and swimming opportunities, and something for everyone to do all year long. RV camping at Brigham City / Perry South KOA is a fun opportunity for the whole family.

Big And Little Cottonwood Canyon Rv Camping

Big and Little Cottonwood Canyons are the outdoor recreation meccas on the southeastern outskirts of Salt Lake City. This is where all the famous ski resorts like Snowbird and Brighton are located. Endless hiking, rock climbing, and mountain biking are available in Cottonwood during the summer months and Forest Service campgrounds in the canyon cater to tent campers.

Big Cottonwoods Spruces Campground accommodates RVs and trailers, but no electric or water hookups are available. Reservations can be made in advance and several sites are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Big and Little Cottonwood Canyons are protected watershed areas so no pets are allowed in the canyons.

If your definition of camping includes off-road vehicles, head to the Fivemile Pass Recreation Area. Just an hour west of Salt Lake City, Fivemile Pass is a prime location for OHVs, ATVs, dirt bikes, mountain biking, and horseback riding.

The Fivemile Pass Recreation Area has a number of primitive campsites where you can pitch your tent or park your RV. Theres no fee for dispersed camping, and there are five pit toilets on-site for your convenience.

Rv Campgrounds Near Salt Lake City Utah

When you are going on an RV vacation, you are going to need to find a place where you can stay during your trip that is close to the attractions that you plan to visit. Many of the campgrounds that are located in this area have beautiful vistas of the mountains nearby as well as things to do at the RV park when you return for the day. For a day of boating, you may want to try Rivers Edge RV Resort, and if youre visiting the Cherry Hill amusement park, the Cherry Hill Camping Resort is a great option.

East Canyon State Park

Tucked into the mountains, 28 miles northeast of Salt Lake City, East Canyon State Park features a 608-acre reservoir alongside the Mormon Pioneer National Historic Trail. This is the historic route where Latter Day Saint pioneers crossed the mountains and into Salt Lake City in the mid-1800s. East Canyon Reservoir is a popular spot for boating, jet skiing, fishing, and other water activities.

The Dixie Creek Campground offers full and partial RV hookups near the marina and the Big Rock Campground sites are more secluded, but not equipped with hookups. Walk-in campsites are available year-round and campsite reservations are available May 1st through October 15th. East Canyon also has boats, yurts, cabins, and RVs available for rent. Dogs are not allowed on the beaches or day use areas.

Why you should camp here: Sleep beneath the pines in picturesque Big Cottonwood Canyon, part of the sprawling Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest.

The Spruces Campground is a strong contender for the most popular National Forest campground near Salt Lake City. Conveniently located just a few minutes from the city in picturesque Big Cottonwood Canyon, Spruces is the perfect basecamp for hiking, mountain biking, and fishing, providing ample shade under the spruce and aspen forest.

RVs are permitted at the Spruces Campground, but the lack of hookups means its far more popular for tents and car camping. The campground features flush toilets and drinking water, and all of the sites have picnic tables, campfire rings, and charcoal grills.

For entertainment, the Spruces Campground offers a baseball field, volleyball court, and horseshoe rings. The campground is connected to a network of hiking trails, and youll find world-class fly fishing at Big Cottonwood Creek.
