Visit A Natural Flowing Spring In Boiling Springs State Park
Boiling Springs State Park is located on the plains of Oklahoma in Woodward, though that doesnt mean its dry. Named for the natural boiling spring that still flows today, the park is one of the seven original state parks in Oklahoma.
Though its a naturally-occurring spring, the water only appears to be boiling. In reality, the sand above the underground inrush moves with the water. In reality, the water is quite cool. Hundreds of year ago the area was explored by some of the earliest Spanish expeditions, and used as an encampment for Native American tribes in the area. Today, the boiling spring is showcased at the on-site interpretive center.
There are 40 RV sites within Boiling Springs State Park, as well as 12 tent sites and a larger group site. Four cabins are available for rent at $105 per night with a two-day minimum on holidays and weekends.
Cherokee Area At Grand Lake State Park
Grand Lake offers even more fall foliage, and if youre lucky, youll catch sight of white pelicans who are migrating south. They start to fly through in late September until October, and its amazing to see flocks of these stunning birds. This area has some excellent fishing spots, tent sites, boat ramps, and more. Youll have easy access to supplies in Langley or Ketchum, along with a few restaurants when youre too busy playing to cook.

Chickasaw National Recreation Area Best For Hiking
This national recreation area includes the former Platt National Park and Arbuckle Recreation District. The recreation area is located at the foot of The Arbuckle Mountains in Murray County.
Water is the main attraction in the recreation area, with most parts of the recreation area being covered by the Lake of the Arbuckles.
Trees make up the woodland that also covers parts of the recreation area. The Travertine Creek and Rock Creek are scenic sections of the recreation area, with waters supplied by various springs in the park.
The recreation area features the Travertine Nature Center that houses various forms of wildlife and plants. The Platt Historic District provides an array of wildlife, including the bison that is a common sight in the park. The numerous springs provide sweet spots for visitors to enjoy the cold waters of the recreation area.
The recreation area provides various activities for the guests. Visitors in the recreation area can take part in fishing in the lake, swimming in the springs and creeks, boating and camping. Visitors can also participate in game hunting permitted in the park.

Th And 21st Centuries
Attempts to create an all-Indian state named Oklahoma and a later attempt to create an all-Indian state named Sequoyah failed but the Sequoyah Statehood Convention of 1905 eventually laid the groundwork for the Oklahoma Statehood Convention, which took place two years later. On June 16, 1906, Congress enacted a statute authorizing the people of the Oklahoma and Indian Territories to form a constitution and state government in order to be admitted as a state. On November 16, 1907, President Theodore Roosevelt issued Presidential Proclamation no. 780, establishing Oklahoma as the 46th state in the Union.
The new state became a focal point for the emerging oil industry, as discoveries of oil pools prompted towns to grow rapidly in population and wealth. Tulsa eventually became known as the “Oil Capital of the World” for most of the 20th century and oil investments fueled much of the state’s early economy. In 1927, Oklahoman businessman Cyrus Avery, known as the “Father of Route 66”, began the campaign to create U.S. Route 66. Using a stretch of highway from Amarillo, Texas to Tulsa, Oklahoma to form the original portion of Highway 66, Avery spearheaded the creation of the U.S. Highway 66 Association to oversee the planning of Route 66, based in his hometown of Tulsa.

Located by the beautiful Lake Eufaula, Oklahomas largest reservoir, this KOA is a quiet, family-friendly campground surrounded by a pleasant country setting. But dont take me wrong, its easily accessible from I-40, which makes it a perfect stop on your way to Oklahoma City.
Rent a canoe or a kayak on-site and reach the lake through the nature trails. The area is also great for birdwatching and fishing. Whereas kids will appreciate the barnyard mini-zoo featuring chickens, ducks, geese, turkeys, a cow, and two donkeys.
The sites are spacious and can accommodate even big rigs. You can also pitch a tent or a cabin. For family reunions and large group gatherings, there are three air-conditioned meeting rooms with a kitchen.
Should you ever get bored at the campground, area attractions include golf courses, casinos, and Native American and Civil War History museums.

With 32 state parks, Oklahoma offers a delightfully diverse range of campgrounds suitable for beginning and novice campers. The majority of Oklahomas state park campgrounds include modern conveniences such as fire rings and grill boxes, water supply, electric hookups, comfort stations complete with flush toilets and showers, playgrounds for children, and picnic tables. Several Oklahoma state parks also host regular nature programs held by naturalists.
Chickasaw National Recreation Area:
The Chickasaw National Recreation area located in Sulphur was of our favorite places to visit as a kid. There is so much to see and do around this area. You can go swimming in swimming holes fed by natural springs, hiking through beautiful trails, catch a glimpse of the majestic Oklahoma Buffalo that call their home here, I actually wrote a whole post on what to do in Sulpher and Davis Oklahoma you should check out.
There are a total of three campgrounds located here.
- The Point just northeast of Buckhorn offers 55 sites with comfort stations and showers and 22 sites with electric hookups.
- Guy Sandy offers a more rugged experience with 40 tent sites that do not have electricity or showers.
- Buckhorn has 22 sites with electric hookups and 55 sites with showers and comfort stations.

Winding Stair Campground At Ouachita National Forest
This campground is located along the Talimena Scenic Highway at Mile Post 23.7 on Okla. 1. Its a peaceful setting with several miles of trails that arent too difficult or too easy. Its the perfect place for fall camping because this stretch of road is known for its beautiful fall colors. This site is ADA compliant, has vault toilets, and can accommodate campers.

Red Rock Canyon Adventure Park
Last, but not least on our list for the best places to go camping in Oklahoma is Red Rock Canyon Adventure Park.
30 minutes away from downtown Oklahoma City sits what was once a 300 acre state park, where you will find impressive red rock cliffs formed by soil deposits from the prehistoric era.
