Where Are The Adirondack Mountains Located
The Adirondack Mountains are located in the New York State.
Before my trip, I knew very little about this region and as one of the oldest settlements in the US, I always thought that the East Coast was covered in sprawling urban cities. To my surprise, most of New York State consists of rugged, undeveloped mountains that you could spend weeks exploring and not see it all.
To visit the Adirondack Mountains we flew into the Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey. From there its a straight shot up to the Adirondacks through Albany. Newark Liberty International Airport is located next to Long Island, New York, but you can take toll roads around it to avoid the busy city traffic.
Tip: When taking toll roads on the East Coast make sure to grab a pass at the toll road entrance. It was our first time going on a toll road here and we didnt know that we had to stop and get a ticket. When it was time to pay, we had to pay the full toll road fee, instead of the small section that we actually drove through which would have been a fraction of the price. Oops! We learned the hard way!
It takes about 5 hours to get to the Adirondack Mountains from Newark Liberty International Airport.
Spring & Fall Camping
Spring and Fall Seasons at the Lake George RV Park are some of the best times to visit. Not only do they tend to be a little quieter, but our Spring and Fall rates are usually much lower than our Summer rates. Keep in mind that there are reduced services available during weekdays in the Spring and Fall Seasons and some event weekends do fill up quickly. Spring Season:
The park is beginning to bloom in early May! There are many local events taking place including Americade and the Elvis Festival in early June as well as many craft and food festivals during the weekends. for a full schedule of events. Our outdoor pools open on Memorial Day weekend and remain open daily through Labor day weekend. In addition, spring is an excellent time to visit the numerous local history spots and area museums.

Do You Need A Bear Canister In The Adirondacks
Many black bears, particularly those in the Adirondack High Peaks Wilderness, have become adept at obtaining food that is stored by back country campers. As defined in regulation, NYSDEC requires the use of bear-resistant canisters by overnight users in the Eastern High Peaks Wilderness between April 1 And November 30.

How To Stay Warm In Your Tent Camping Tips Dont wait until you feel cold to layer up. Thermals are big and clever. Always pack a hot water bottle. Dont go to bed cold. Sleeping bag liners can help. Invest in down insulation. Insulate your tent with a tent carpet or rugs. Invest in some disposable heat packs.

Generations Tap & Grill
If youre looking for a place to eat around Lake Placid, Generations Tap & Grill is a great restaurant that we walked to from our hotel. Generations Tap & Grill serves food all day long breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Their menu is very generous and covers a variety of items to choose from, including pizza, sandwiches, and vegetarian options which I appreciated.
They also have a great selection of beer and drinks. My husband tried the Good Fortune IPA that was hazy in color and a bit sweet.
While Generations Tap & Grill wasnt anything out of the ordinary, food options in the Adirondack Mountains are limited and this restaurant was able to accommodate us without a reservation on a busy night. The service at Generations Tap & Grill was very friendly and welcoming, just what we needed after a long day of hiking!

All campers must obtain a camping permit. Campers may check in from 2:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., but must register and occupy their campsite by 9:00 p.m. on the first night of their reservation or the campsite will be subject to re-rental and fees may be forfeited. Campers must be at least 18 years old to get a permit.

Here Are The Top Ten Things You Will Need If You Are Tent Camping In The Fall In The Adirondacks:
1. Hot beverages and accessories. There is nothing like starting a chilly day with a cup of steaming coffee, tea or cocoa. All three will quickly warm your core body temperature, and dont forget the accessories such as a coffee grinder or coffee press if your idea of roughing it only goes so far.
2. Headlamp or lantern. With the shorter daylight hours, it can be difficult to enter your tent in the dark. Also, using a headlamp will keep both of your hands free to perform chores. Any LED lighting source will do and for area lighting, many people prefer LED lanterns rather than traditional fuel lanterns.
3. Cold weather sleeping bag. That lighter sleeping bag you used all summer wont do for fall camping. For the most part, a sleeping bag rated between 0° and 20° should be enough, although you can throw an extra blanket on top.
4. Sleeping pad or air mattress. They will provide cushioning, but more importantly they will insulate you from the cold ground. You can also slip a blanket on top of the sleeping pad or air mattress as they tend to be very cold themselves.
5. Duffel bag. Fall camping involves much more gear than summer camping. Stowing that gear, along with personal items, cuts down on the chaos that can happen when things are not organized. The key is to choose one that is durable. It will hold up better in the cold weather, as well as last a lot longer.

Roaring Brook Falls Trail
Roaring Brook Falls was a pleasant surprise that we stumbled upon while researching hikes to do in the Adirondack Mountains.
Roaring Brook Falls trailhead is located near the Indian Head trail starting point. While many people park at the Roaring Brook trailhead parking lot, very few venture into this trail and opt to do the more popular Indian Head hike instead.
I recommend checking out Roaring Brook Falls as well, its quite the little gem!
The trail to Lower Roaring Brook Falls is only 0.5 miles long, round trip. You also have the option to hike to an overlook of the upper falls that adds an extra mile to your adventure.
This trail is not well traveled and parts of it were a bit hard to follow especially in fall when the entire forest was covered with freshly fallen leaves. The hike ends at a cliff where the waterfall flows down its side cutting away the rock along its path.

Backcountry & State Lands
At six million acres, the Adirondacks have plenty of uninhabited backcountry. Siamese Ponds Wilderness offers loads of primitive campsites, as well as two lean-tos on Puffer Pond, one on Hour Pond and one on John Pond. Review your backcountry camping rules and guidelines before going.It is illegal to camp above 4,000 feet in the Adirondacks unless it’s an emergency, or within 150 of any road, trail, spring, stream, pond or other body of water except at designated “camp here” sites, which are delineated with a disk nail to a nearby tree.

Little Sand Point Campground

This charming campground rests on the northern shore of Piseco Lake. It has a certain rustic character to it, yet the updated facilities and relatively quiet area is a sure bet when it comes to enjoying the southern Adirondacks. There are 74 sites, many of which are by the water with their own private mini beaches. The campground features potable water, several restrooms, and a newly renovated shower facility. Picnic tables and stone fireplaces are included with all campsites. A boat launch allows for canoes, kayaks, and larger motor boats, and there is a long, quiet road along the north shore of the lake that lends itself to cycling. It is open from mid-May to early September, and dogs are allowed. Nearby, there is a 1.4-mile hike to the Echo Cliffs with an excellent viewpoint over the lake.

Saranac Lake offers quintessential Adirondack high peaks, gorgeous lakes, and a charming downtown lined with galleries, innovative eateries, and bars. A few miles outside downtown, a total of 87 boat-access campsites, known as Saranac Lake Islands, span Middle Saranac Lake and Lower Saranac Lake. All campsites afford privacy and are oriented towards the lake, including a handful of private island sites. Campers can reach their site by boat, canoe, or kayak from the launching area on Lower Saranac Lake. Traveling on to Middle Saranac Lake entails the added adventure of passing through a manually operated lock. Campsites are primitive, but include outhouses and fire pits, while sites 63, 81, and 87 have lean-to shelters.
