This is definitely an outdoorsy type of vacation, so if you plan to go, plan to be outside most of your trip, whether you are hiking, fishing, swimming, kayaking, or camping out with your friends.

Youll Pay A Camping And National Park Fee

Youll pay about $14 a night staying at Lone Rock Beach campground plus a $30 vehicle park pass which is good for 1-7 days.

You can view other fees and passes here if you dont plan to bring a vehicle with you.

As camping goes, youre getting a deal, and much of where youll be exploring youll need a park pass anyways.

Rainbow Bridge National Monument Glen Canyon

Sadly, we did not get time to do Rainbow Bridge, but it is high on my Utah bucket list for when we return.

Rainbow Bridge National Monument is the tallest natural bridge in the world. It is roughly the sixth longest and a popular thing to do in Utah for those who want to go off the beaten path.

Its a scared bridge of the Navajo culture for its symbol of deities responsible for creating clouds, rainbows and rain the essence of life in the desert.

The bridge can be reached by boat and then an easy 0.75-mile trail up the twisting canyon to a spectacular overlook near the bridge Intrepid travelers can hike strenuous backcountry trails from Navajo Mountain.

Halls Crossing Rv & Campground

Halls Crossing RV & Campground can be accessed by a ferry from Bullfrog or by a long 288-mile drive from Wahweap. RV park with charcoal grills and picnic tables at each site can accommodate up to 60 long RVs. Campground offers about 40 primitive campsites with individual firepits and picnic tables. Halls Crossing RV & Campground is closed from November 1 to February 28.

Campground At A Glance

Colorado River Primitive Camping Between Glen Canyon Dam And Lees Ferry

Do not boat below the cable downstream from the Lees Ferry launch ramp. There are dangerous rapids below the cable. Downstream waters are restricted. A permit is required from Grand Canyon National Park to float this section of the river.

Camping is limited to 14 days. Camping is permitted in designated areas only. There are five designated areas, marked with signs, on a first-come, first-served basis. Upriver campsites are provided with toilets and fire pits. All campsites are located well above the river and require a short walk from your boat. This is to prevent camps from being damaged by high water releases.

Fires are permitted only in the fireplaces provided or in portable fire pans. No ground fires are allowed. If portable fire pans are used, all burned charcoal must be carried out. Collection of wood is prohibited.

Carry out all litter and garbage. There is no regular garbage collection upriver. Plastic litter bags are available free of charge at the ranger station. Dumpsters are available at the launch ramps for garbage disposal.

Federal law prohibits the disturbance, defacement, or removal of historic or archeological sites. Do not deface rocks and cliffs. Do not disturb plants or animals, and do not feed wildlife.

There are no fees or permits required to camp upriver. Entrance fees and vessel use fees apply.

Bullfrog Rv & Campground

Nestled on the shore of Bullfrog Bay on Lake Powell, this campground has everything you need from RV amenities to charcoal grills and picnic tables. About 80 concrete padded sites for tents and RVs, restrooms, and showers await the visitors throughout the year. Bullfrog Lake Powell Launching Ramp is less than a mile from the campsite.

Camping At Lone Rock Beach Campground

Lake Powell offers camping options courtesy of the Glen Canyon National Recreational Area of which 196 miles of the Colorado River fill up nearly 100 canyons and offer nearly 2,000 miles of coastland.

The water is pristine, typically cool from the depths at which it sits and flows slowly through the reservoir system.

As such, the entrance and maintenance of the Lone Rock campground are managed by the National Recreational Area. There are a handful of other primitive campgrounds in the National Recreational Area but Lone Rock Beach is by far our favorite and top-recommended.

What You Need To Know About Camping At Lone Rock Beach Campground

While the Wal Mart in Page is famous for hosting massive numbers of campers, Lone Rock Beach Campground is a cheap, convenient and overall amazing option for an incredibly reasonable camping fee.

While we were only planning to be in the area for 1 night to prepare to kayak to Antelope Canyon, we spent the night camping at Wal Mart before we realized that such an incredible camping spot existed just a short drive up the road.

Lone Rock Beach Campground is the perfect place to set off to explore Horseshoe Bend , Antelope Canyon or the town of Page . Its also conveniently located within 2 hours of Zion National Park and even closer to the dozen or so slot canyons between Page and Kanab.

If you enjoy water sports, camping at Lone Rock Beach is a must. You can back your boat or jet ski trailer into the water at your campsite. And theres nothing that beats paddling your SUP or kayak just feet from where you roll out of bed in the morning.

While we did not own a SUP the first time we visited Lone Rock, we made friends with neighbors who allowed us to borrow their iROCKER SUP to paddle out and around Lone Rock.

We also inflated our kayak and paddled throughout the bay exploring the canyons into which you can paddle through and see wildlife such as bighorn sheep.

Lone Rock Beach Primitive Camping Area

Lone Rock Beach is known for the unparalleled views of Lake Powell along with accessibility to the water. The popularity of this destination isn’t surprising as it is one of the several spots where you can drive directly to the lake and and camp on the shoreline. Here, you can launch both kayaks and motorized boats. These days, it’s more of a family-friendly place: lots of people are spotted swimming in the blue waters together and at night a friendly conversation over campfires can be frequently heard. The area accommodates tents, RVs, and pickup campers. The campground is located off Highway 89, between the towns of Big Water, Utah, and Page, Arizona.Lone Rock Campground operates year-round, although some nearby facilities tend to close down for winter. During the high season, weekends and holidays are usually packed with campers, but there is usually plenty of room to camp. Dogs are allowed on the premises here.

Wahweap Rv & Campground

Located at Wahweap Marina about a quarter-mile from the Lake Powell shore, Wahweap offers plenty of water-based fun from powerboats to all sorts of water toys. The campground offers an access to the nearby Wahweap Swim Beach, free WiFi, picnic tables, fire rings, and restrooms. You can also enjoy a restaurant, a gift shop, and lounge at the Lake Powell Resort. In winter, you can treat yourself to some solitude at RV Park & Campground.

Camping Alternatives At Lone Rock

Why dont we just bring a tent? You may well ask. While we do spot a few tents, campers must have a portable toilet if they want to camp further than 200 feet from the bathrooms. Which explains some of the oddly positioned vans and trucks parked halfway to the beach, by the pit toilets. Yes, there are bathrooms scattered around the beach, but nowhere close to the shore. So, you either bring your own toilet or settle for sub-par campsites.

Lone Rock Beach Primitive Camping

|Sunrise on the lake!

Perfect place to stay! As long as you pay attention to the deep sands, you can park your RV on the beach and have a great stay right on the lake. There’s a dump station right after passing the crossbar, where you can also tap water. For the $10 a night, it’s perfect even for long-term stays.

$10 a night or $5 with Senior Pass. Great views of Lake Powell. Park on top by the dumpster/dump station or head down to the beach camping. Just stay away from the soft, sandy areas on the dirt road down. No showers, water is available at the dump station. Will definitely return for a longer stay. Groceries available in Page.

Why Lone Rock Beach

Lone Rock Beach was the perfect location for a solo traveler and for people looking to spend a short weekend getting away from it all. But there are some things you should know and prepare for before making your trip to Lone Rock Beach.

Lone Rock Beach campground is known for the massive rock protruding from the middle of the Lake Powell waters. It stands hundreds of feet high and is the only large rock of its kind in the area of the lake that stands out and in the middle of the waters, hence its name.

Lone Rock Beach Campground

Lone Rock Beach Campground is a large primitive campsite located on the shores of Wahweap Bay and adjacent to Lone Rock, a large isolated redrock formation. It is accessible to vehiclesyou can drive right onto the sand and set up camp on the beach or nearby sand dunes. It is Primitive, meaning no designated camping spots, but youll find toilets, outhouses, RV dump, cold showers, potable water in the camp area. Jet Skis, boats and personal watercraft can be operated and/or anchored conveniently at the beach. The beach is about an 8 mile drive from Wahweap marina, but about half the distance by water. Many people use this location on holidays / weekends, so plan accordingly . Remember to bring a porta-potty if youre camping more than 200 yards from the outhousesthe park service regularly patrols this site and youll face fines if you dont obey this rule. We also recommend driving on already-established car paths, as many people will tell you about getting stuck in the soft sand!

Limitations: 14 consecutive days allowed per visit. 30 days per year.

Public Toilets: Yes. Flush toilets and rinse showers at campground info center. Outhouse toilets located on beach. Be sure to bring a Porta-Potty if you plan to camp a few hundred feet away from the porta-potties Rangers regularly patrol the area to enforce.

What Makes It Great

From the toll booth, take a number of dirt roads down to the water. Yes, you get to camp right on the water. Setting up your site during the day is recommended, because the beach can have deep sand in spots especially the farther you travel from the toll booth eastwardand you dont want to get stuck. Plus, youll be set up to see the amazing sunset your site affords.Unparalleled views of Lake Powell, along with accessibility to the wateryou can launch motorized boats or kayaks hereare the prized points associated with this destination. At one time, Lone Rock was thought of as a party beach, but its reputation has changed to provide more of a family-friendly experience. Often, many people can be found swimming in the cool blue waters together, and friendly conversation with nearby campers over campfires is a regular occurrence. The area accommodates RVs, pickup campers, and tents alike.As compared to developed campgrounds at marinas or in Page, Ariz., this one offers better access to nature and has a much more commanding view. Yet, you will still be able to quickly and easily make it to popular destinations such as Antelope Canyon and Horseshoe Bend.An additional fun fact: The first episode of the sixth season of Doctor Who, The Impossible Astronaut, was filmed here.

Here are the quick details you need to know about camping at Lone Rock Beach:

• $14/night + Entrance Fee
• No reservations or reserved campsites. All camping is open on a first-come, first-serve basis.

• Pets and fires allowed
• RV Dump station located on-premises

If you have your annual America The Beautiful National Park pass youll skip the entrance fee and making a stay here incredibly reasonable. Discounted stays of 50% are also offered to Senior Passholders.

While there is a 14 consecutive day limit , many RVers will choose to camp here for extended periods of time particularly during the fall, winter and spring months.

You can run into Page and spend the night at Wal Mart to reset your two-week stay if you plan to visit that long. Chances are youll make friends willing to hold down your campsite for the night if you do.
