Located merely one hour away from Nashville is Henry Horton State Park, a diverse ecosystem where you can camp to take advantage of the trails, nature, and golf course.

The park offers spots for any type of camper and youll find 10 tent campgrounds and primitive and backcountry campsites. There are eight cabins to escape to and youll find 56 spots for RVs there.

Inside of Henry Horton State Park, there is the beautiful Duck River where you can fish and spot wildlife year-round. There is also an 18-hole golf course.

Some of the amenities you will have here are wifi, a renovated camp store, and firewood for purchase. There is also a bathroom/shower facility. Pets are welcome but must be on a leash.

Camping In The Great Smoky Mountains National Park

The National Park Service maintains 10 front country campground locations in the park. Front country camping essentially means developed campgrounds.

From Cades Cove to Elkmont, each campground has restrooms with cold running water and flush toilets.

Additionally, each campsite has a fire grate and picnic table. However, there are no showers, electrical or water hookups in the park.

Shower facilities are available in the communities surrounding the national park.

There are 5-amp electric outlets for medical equipment use only at Cades Cove, Elkmont and Smokemont.

Only Cades Cove and Smokemont are open year-round. Elkmont is cool, but also almost definitely haunted.

T O Fuller State Park

T. O. Fuller State Park is located within the southern city limits of Memphis, with plenty of activities in store for its visitors.

But aside from its diverse terrain and quiet setting, this state park offers plenty of history.

Initially designated as the Shelby County Negro State Park, the name was changed in 1942 to T. O. Fuller State Park in honor of Dr. Thomas O. Fuller, an African American author, pastor, and civic leader who spent his life educating African Americans.

Before this, there is evidence the adjacent site was a burial ground for the Chucalissa Native Americans, and it has since been developed into the Chucalissa Indian Village, complete with preserved archaeological excavations and a museum.

Leconte Lodge Sevierville Tennessee

If youre looking for a glamping experience, youll love LeConte Lodge!

Located high up on the slopes of Mt. LeConte in the Great Smokey Mountains National Park, LeConte Lodge offers an authentic 1920s hiking experience as youve never seen it before! The site sits at 6,400 feet above sea level, and, as there are no roads up here, the beautiful wooden cabins can only be reached by hiking, ensuring that this place stays as pristine and untouched as it was way back when the lodges were built.

To get here, youll need to follow five trails up the mountain, ranging from 5.5 to 8 miles long. Youll enjoy a few nights relaxing in a cozy, characterful hand-built log cabin. Where youll sit out on your private porch in a rocking chair to marvel at the glory of the sunset, listen to a silence thats interrupted only by birdsong, and enjoy delicious, home-cooked food in the family-style dining room.

As youd expect from the highest guest lodge in the eastern U.S., the views over the Smokies from here are incredible! However, you must know that theres no electricity up here. Kerosene lamps provide lighting, and propane heaters are used to warm the cabins. Needless to say, theres no Wi-Fi, and the cell reception is pretty non-existent!

Ii: Rv Camping But Out In The You Know Woods

The following locations are a bit further off the beaten path.

7. Greenlee of May Springs Campground

There are a couple of Greenlee Campgrounds on Cherokee Lake. May Springs in Rutledge, TN is my favorite.

They have lots of sites with access to the water. Weve hosted a couple of birthday parties there over the years.

Theres also a boat ramp and easy access for fishing and water sports. We like 4, 6, 8 and 9 because its close enough to walk to the beach area and its not far from the showers or restrooms.

Additionally, its secluded enough by the trees so you have some shade in the little cove.

On the other side, RV sites 111, 112, 113 and 114 are right next to a nice little pavilion you can use if it hasnt been rented.

And theres decent access to the water, though it should be noted its not an official beach. Greenlee is a great destination if RV camping is the goal of the trip.

6. Fanchers Campground and Lakeside Rentals

Located on the shores of Douglas Lake in Dandridge, TN, Fanchers offers all the usual amenities. The list includes a pool, boat dock and boat launch.

Fanchers is a great camping spot for anyone who loves to fish, get out on the lake or run jet skis.

Cabins and lofts are also available for rent.

The truth is, there are Tennessee RV parks like Fanchers or Greenlee up and down the TVA reservoir system from Johnson City down to the Georgia-Alabama state line.
