The park also features 28 walk-in campsites that cater to tent camping. All campers at Colorado Bend have access to potable water and restrooms .
Popular activities at Colorado Bend include utilizing the 35-mile network of multi-use trails. The Gorman Falls Trail is one of the most well-traversed trails in the park.
Colorado Bend State Park features two hike-in backcountry camping areas, both of which are accessible with a mile-long hike. Group campgrounds are also available at Colorado Bend and accommodate up to 48 people.

Youll probably have seen the boardwalk on Instagram so make sure to get your shots in there and to take in the cliffs and the canyon in the park. Twelve Mile Swamp Conservation Area
Twelve Mile Swamp Conservation Area in St. Augustine features 2.8 miles of public hiking, biking, and birding trails. These trails include interpretive exhibits with five points of interest related to commercial timber. Trails are self-guided and open from sunrise to sunset daily. The conservation also allows horseback riding but does not have camping facilities. Several swamps and planted pine and cypress forests make up the conservation area. There are currently 22,000 acres of the conservation being used for timber leasing, and public access is restricted for safety until 2025.

Parc National De La Yamaska
The Parc national de la Yamaska surrounds the Choinière reservoir, an artificial lake perfect for boating activities built on the North Yamaska River near Granby in the Eastern Townships. The campground here has 147 sites, including ready-to-camp tent rental, sites with water and electricity and more rustic sites for canoe camping and bicycle camping. You can also comfortably camp here in the wintertime by renting one of five nature cabins or a rustic shelter located near snowshoeing and cross-country ski trails.

Devils Glen Provincial Park is another non-operational park but it offers some fantastic options for hiking and is pretty spectacular in the fall. Theres a huge 9.8km loop trail in the park so if youre up for a long hike this one might be for you. Do note the signage of the trail is limited so look at a map before heading out. Theres also a viewing platform, of the Niagara Escarpment, right before the trail so if youre here for views and not hikes thats worth a stop.

Camping Cabins Yurts And Camping Lodges
Some parks offer alternate camping facilities. Guests renting these facilities, which are in campgrounds, use the campground’s bathhouse. These facilities fall under the same transfer policy as that for cabins.
Camping cabins are generally one-room wooden buildings with two sets of bunk beds, a table, a ceiling fan and an electrical outlet. They have no heating or air conditioning. Guests use nearby bathhouses’ rest rooms and showers. The camping cabins have a picnic table and a fire ring, grill or both. Guests must bring their sheets, pillows and towels. A minimum two-night stay is required for camping cabins. Check-in is 4 p.m. and check-out is 10 a.m. Camping cabins are available at Lake Anna, Pocahontas, Shenandoah River and Westmoreland state parks. Just north of Plattsburgh on Lake Champlain is a wonderful park for a casual beach camping experience. Located alongside a large natural sand beach , this campground can accommodate tent camping or RV-camping. Childrens playgrounds, picnic tables, showers and grills are all available on site, and youre not too far from amenities back in town if you need them.

The Sunshine Coast is one of the best places to escape from the city: a 45-minute ferry ride away from Horseshoe Bay, it is close enough to be convenient, but far enough to feel like a true vacation.
One of the best places to camp on the coast is at Porpoise Bay Provincial Park, which features both car-access campsites and an open cyclist-only camping area . One of the campsites is wheelchair-accessible, and a group campsite offers additional camping for 15-50 people.
The campsites feature taps for drinking water, communal fire pits, flush and pit toilets, and showering facilities. Some campsites can be reserved ahead of time, while others are set aside to be occupied on a first-come, first-served basis.
The park’s best feature is its proximity to hiking trails, sandy beaches, and the Sechelt Inlet . There is plenty of space to stretch out, run around, and enjoy a few days outside.
Cathcart Park & Campground
Nice mowed grass and picnic areas await visitors to Cathcart. There are 37 seasonal RV sites with full hookups and about 40 more for shorter overnight stays. Their tent sites are limited to only 4 but there is water at each one. Showers and toilets are on-site and they also have fire pits.
Perhaps best of all, this campground is on the St. Clair River so campers can bring their boats if they have one. You can also swim in the river and a playground is available for kids. Its only open seasonally from May to around mid-October.

The big sell to the park is definitely the beach that is available for day-use. Theres a long pebble peach and a shorter beach with sand.
The park is also used for boating and birdwatching.
Provincial Parks Near Toronto That Are Less Than Two Hours Away
Ontario has over 300 stunning provincial parks that are ready to be explored. This is in addition to all of the stunning reserves and conservation areas that youll find around the province as well so living in Ontario youre definitely spoiled for options when it comes to exploring nature. Given the size of Ontario, and depending on where you live, not all of these provincial parks are super accessible on a day trip unfortunately. To help you with some road trip planning Ive put together this list of all of the 34 closest provincial parks near Toronto that you absolutely need to visit. This of course doesnt mean you shouldnt plan a weekend getaway to visit some of the further away parks but it just means these provincial parks are near Toronto and doable as a day trip!
Ive broken the list down by their distance from Toronto in terms of whether they fall under 1 hour away from Toronto, 1.5 hours away from Toronto or 2 hours away from Toronto. I think any further than 2 hours becomes slightly difficult for a day trip but because I myself am a huge fan of road trips and longer, busier days, I have of course included a section at the bottom of Ontario Provincial Parks that are 2-3 hours away from Toronto as well. These parks are absolutely worth visiting but perhaps consider camping or overnighting to get the most of your experience.

Short Hills Provincial Park

Short Hills Provincial Park is a non-operational park but is still open for day use and with several trails and a pretty great waterfall it should definitely be added to your list.
The park has 6 separate trails but Id highly recommend doing the Swayze Falls to explore the pretty waterfall.
I will add that the trails arent super maintained in my opinion so be careful when hiking since they can be muddy or a little difficult to navigate.
Guadalupe Canyon Oasis Hot Springs And Nature Reserve
How does your own private hot spring sound? At this campground nestled in the mountains of Baja, every campsite has its own attached hot springs pool with temperatures up to 125 degrees. Each site also has a palapa, grill, and place to set up tents and the campground has flush toilets, showers, and a camp store. Some sites accommodate groups as big as 14 with four cars, making them perfect for a getaway with friends. While staying at the campground, you can hike to see caves with ancient petroglyphs, use the giant mud bath, or do some rock climbing. There are also cool pools for swimming and rock jumping. The road to the campground is long and bumpy, but thats the price you pay for a hot spring at the finish line.

Nancy Island Historic Site is accessible through the park as well and theres 30 km of trails you can hike on. You can of course just relax on the beach as well and that would be perfectly fine!
